Chapter 31: The Sea Monsters Master Poseidon

Chapter 31: The Sea Monster's Master Poseidon

University of Wisconsin–Madison is in chaos.

All these century-old prestigious schools have gone through many terrors - the US-Mexico War, the American Civil War, World War I and II, but they had nothing to do with their campuses.

Supercomputers losing control is what's really at stake here.

Professors in the midst of critical experiments, outside researchers with crucial data left on their computers, and national security agencies borrowing computers, all flocked to the scene.

The shores of Lake Michigan have never been so lively.

The principal, driven to distraction, had no choice but to arrive at the computer center early in the morning, his eyes red with command: "Before tonight, you must restore the normal operation of the Mermaid."

Professor Hack looked back with redder eyes: "The government does not allow us to restart the Kraken, cannot restart, and cannot restore control."

Kirkham, appearing as a government expert, heard this and said in a low voice: "Reactivating the Sea Witch may do what Poseidon wanted to do but couldn't. That would completely remove the Sea Witch's defenses. Although we can regain control of it through this, who knows what hidden dangers will remain."

Just off the plane, Klinhamm was dusty and disheveled, his anger at being cheated seething beneath the surface.

"Who did you say was Poseidon?" The principal frowned.

Klingham's eyes snapped open, and he muttered: "He controlled the sea monster, that's Poseidon."

It was Chen Yi who was burning the scroll.

For security experts, hackers are more like comrades-in-arms than enemies. Everything is an internal competition, and a cool nickname is also essential.

"It's a good name, but not for him." The principal said with some gritted teeth, then weighed his tone and continued: "I order the restart of Haiyao, unless you can determine what the hidden danger is."

"I don't think so." The hastily arrived federal official spoke slowly and deliberately, "The ownership of the sea monster belongs to the US government, not the University of Wisconsin..."

"As chancellor of the University of Wisconsin–Madison..."

"A public university does not prove you have jurisdiction over government property." The federal official told Klinzman bluntly, "Find the vulnerabilities and then restart."

The principal hummed and said, "The Sea Witch has numerous national defense projects on its back. There are 17 in Madison Branch alone. If you refuse to let us use the Sea Witch, all of these projects will be terminated. And I believe that other branches will make the same choice."

The president of a public university, once in office, has considerable power, especially for those from prestigious schools, who regard reputation as their greatest wealth. As long as they have a good reputation, they can be social celebrities outside and cabinet ministers inside, compared to officials in the arena of fame and fortune, they have an unusually high pressure.

He had to consider the principal's suggestion seriously and turned his head towards Klinham, saying: "What are the specific risks of rebooting?"

"Supercomputer rebooting, it will reload modules that it wouldn't use in normal operation, modules that Poseidon can't touch. This is a very cunning opponent, if the virus he left in the computer still exists, something worse than losing passwords might happen."

  "For example?"

"Backdoor program. Record all passwords we modified."

Although what Klinham said was a serious issue, Professor Hack was not pleased with his work being guessed and intervened: "You were the one who presided over the cleaning of the virus, you announced that the virus had been cleared, now you say it still exists?"

  Klingon's tongue was stuck.

The stalemate continued until the afternoon, with the busy gentlemen yielding no results. The government officials finally retreated: "Re-examine the sea monster carefully, restart, and regain control."

A supercomputer losing 24 hours of time is extremely costly, and it's really impossible to continue just based on suspicion.

Krengelm reluctantly agreed to the so-called inspection, which was just a formality. The current "Sea Monster" is purely a beached whale, and it's possible to eat its meat, but it's absolutely impossible to command it to return to the ocean. Without even an administrator password, what could he possibly inspect?

Two hours later, the mermaid was completely disassembled and dissected. More than 20 staff members began to inspect different parts of it.

At the same time, a group of three security experts began to crack the password of Sea Serpent using two large servers. The cracking process went quite smoothly as they had accessed most of its hardware and software security measures.

In a moment, Klinhamm came over to report: "Around that time, we should be able to regain control of the sea monster."

The principal didn't like him and said sarcastically: "Not bad, how long did that hacker take?"

The implication is that the other party can obtain control of the sea monster in a short period of time without any assistance.

Even federal officials had a strange smile on their faces and had to turn back again.

Kleinhamm's face turned cold, and he gave a ambiguous "yes" before turning around and leaving.

The supercomputer booted up slowly under the guidance of three security experts, making all sorts of strange noises like a constipated elephant.

Kreng's tense sweat remained. He couldn't help but say to the person next to him, "I have a very strong premonition that something will happen..."

His words were highly ambiguous, and the female Ph.D. student who had just entered immediately raised her vigilant eyes.

Kleinhamm was taken aback, then seemed to think of something and sighed towards the void: "I'm really too stupid. If Poseidon succeeds, we won't know because it's a backdoor program; if Poseidon fails, we also won't know because there is no backdoor program, looks like I've lost for sure."

The female Ph.D. student had her hand on the anti-wolf spray in her bag.

Professor Hark gazed sympathetically at Klinham and with a wave of his large hand declared the main engine started.

At the same time, a tiny program that couldn't be any smaller slipped out of the corner silently and hid in the core program along with the massive data stream after reboot.

That's something Chen Yi completed using a skill duplication scroll and an intelligence scroll combined, it doesn't have many functions but is very useful.

It quietly waits for its moment to shine.

Just as the impossible event was about to happen, just as the whole world was worried about network services, and just as North America focused on Wisconsin, its perpetrator had to visit the campus environment of Jiangning University under the coercion of his younger sister. Of course, the main purpose is to visit the computer club of Jiangning University and calm her down.

After the events of the past two days, Xiaoyu and others almost every day had "high hand" on their lips, and they couldn't wait to worship at Chen's door. Therefore, with Chen Yi present, Chen Rongxi's deputy general manager position had the opportunity to hang a regular title.

This is Chen Yi's third time entering Jiangning University.
