On whether Taoist priests can get married, there are two categories:
The first category is the Orthodox Unity Sect: During the Yuan Dynasty, the Heavenly Master Dao unified various talismanic and ritualistic sects under its authority. The Upper Clarity, Numinous Treasure, and Heavenly Master sects were all incorporated under the name of Orthodox Unity, also known as the "Three Mountains Talismans." From then on, all major Daoist schools, from the esteemed Upper Clarity and Numinous Treasure to the more obscure Six Rens Gate and Lu Shan Sect, were placed under the jurisdiction of the Heavenly Master's administration. Within these sects, there are two types of Daoist practitioners: those who live in temples and those who live at home. Temple-dwelling Daoists reside in palaces and observatories, remain celibate, and observe vegetarian diets. Home-dwelling Daoists can marry and have children but must also observe dietary restrictions. The Heavenly Master Sect does not prohibit its members from marrying, and since the time of Zhang Daoling, all successive Heavenly Masters have inherited the mantle through direct lineage. The Mao Shan Sect has a deep connection with the Heavenly Master Sect and often travels throughout the countryside, primarily consisting of home-dwelling Daoists who may marry. These wandering or traveling Daoists engage in farming or other occupations and are allowed to marry.
The second category is the Quanzhen School: The Quanzhen School and other schools close to it, such as the Yinxian School, due to their practice of solitary cultivation of the pure and clean elixir method, prohibit their disciples from marrying and consider celibacy an important standard for spiritual practice.
So, the Taoist priests under the Quanzhen School are not allowed to get married, while a considerable number of fire-residing Taoists exist in the Zhengyi School. The Tianzheng lineage also originated from Maoshan and belongs to the Zhengyi School according to classification, so this Tianzheng School does not have the rule that people within the school cannot get married. Going back several generations, Cha Wenbin's ancestors were mostly with spouses and descendants, in terms of marriage, Cha Wenbin is a typical traditional Chinese male: monogamous and responsible.
He got married slightly earlier than Xia Lao Liu, so before the marriage, he still had one more thing to take care of, which was that Miss Yuan who came from Shanghai to the provincial city. At that time, Yuan Xiaobai was getting younger and younger every day, and at the age of a young girl, she had to return to her childhood. It wasn't until many years later that scientists discovered similar cases and called this extremely rare phenomenon of reverse growth "growth regression". Even now, the entire scientific community is still helpless in dealing with such cases.
People always create miracles in desperate situations, and the people who create miracles are often those inconspicuous little figures. Wanting to stop Yuan Xiaobai's decline, I initially thought about using Xiangzi Amao's idea, if Cha Wenbin's accelerated aging could be solved with virgin blood, then what about Xiaobai?
Facing the increasingly regressing Xiao Bai, Cha Wenbin's time was also running out. However, he still didn't dare to take risks with her. But the knowledge of Taoism is boundless, and Cha Wenbin deeply believed that "the one who tied the bell must be the one to untie it". Since he himself was declining while Xiao Bai was young, did this not correspond to the Two Principles' theory? In our ancient culture, there's a saying: "Lonely Yin does not give birth, solitary Yang does not grow" and "Without Yang, Yin has nothing to rely on for growth; without Yin, Yang has nothing to transform into". This means that any single state of Yin or Yang cannot survive. Taoism holds that males are Yang, females are Yin; advance is Yang, retreat is Yin. Cha Wenbin pondered whether this wasn't exactly the current situation between him and Xiao Bai, yet he still couldn't understand why he and she would undergo such strange changes.
Since Xiaobai's resurrection was the method left by that Jiangxi Taoist, it can be seen that the profundity of this method is only understood by him. Unfortunately, Li Shenxian, who taught him the method, has also passed away. Now he is the only one who knows this method and only understands its form but not the meaning behind it.
That night, after Zhang Wenbin brought back the queen, he went to the grave mountain. Wulipu, a dozen miles away from Hongcun Village, was Zhang Wenbin's hometown.
Wulipu was said to be a place for garrisoning troops before the Ming Dynasty. Located in the Tianmu Mountains, on the border of Zhejiang and Anhui provinces, controlling this small mountain valley surrounded by mountains on three sides and water on one side would allow control over millions of people in two provinces and three counties with less than 10,000 soldiers. The origin of this place is said to be from an ancient post station in the past, where "pu" refers to a resting place, and "wuli" refers to its length of about five miles. In this mountain valley, which is roughly five miles long and wide, there are still scattered remnants of over a dozen households, but it's been several years since then, and now Wulipu is said to have less than one or two households left.
This land is not short of good fields and water sources, and the mountains are full of economic forests that can be cut down. In the seven mountains, two waters and one field in northwest Zhejiang, such an environment is easy to form a village, but why did it experience a desolate scene in just a few decades? Listening to some old people in the local area, they all said: The house is not prosperous, the land has bad feng shui.
"Wulipu, although it fits the saying 'right next to White Tiger, North Ring Mountain, West Road East Water connected to North with a hill, left with Qinglong Water Bay Creek', and it seems that all four auspicious beasts are present. However, the killing energy in this place is too heavy. Any place with excessive killing energy, such as ancient battlefields, execution grounds or former prisons, has too many unjust deaths, and the evil energy is overwhelming. No matter how good the feng shui is, it can't gather energy." He Tugou patted my shoulder with his eyes narrowed: "In the future, when buying a house, you must understand what that place used to be for. Just relying on looking at feng shui is useless."
There is a Luohan Mountain in Wulipu, locals say it looks like a sleeping arhat, but I couldn't see the resemblance. Zhang Wenbin lived at the foot of that mountain. The lower half of the mountain was covered with small bamboo shoots, and as you went up, there was a beech forest, and further up was an open area, where the Zhang family tomb was located on the mountain. This place was personally selected by Ma Suifeng, Ma Zhenren, some people say that Zhang Wenbin was also picked up from an old tomb on this mountain by his master.
What is he doing on the mountain? He's anxious, he has no way out, this apprentice is still far from being mature, when something happens, he can only rely on himself to carry it, half-understanding, wanting to go find his master to talk, see if the old man will show some spirit and help him get out of trouble.
Carrying incense, candles, paper money and offerings of wine and water, Cha Wenbin walked alone with his head bowed. The Luohan Mountain had just been rained on and was difficult to walk on, three steps forward and two steps back, the ground was uneven everywhere, and his clothes and shoes were covered in mud. But in his heart, he was also empty. Who would still come to ask for advice from a dead person? Cha Wenbin's life was bitter, without parents, and his only master had passed away early, who was already crazy when he was alive, he really walked through alone like this.
It's a new tomb, but it's also overgrown with weeds. Cha Wenbin hasn't been here for some time either. He arranged the offerings properly, said what he wanted to say in his heart, and after kowtowing several times, he headed down the mountain. At the foot of the mountain was the house that had just been renovated last year. When he pushed it open, he saw that it was also covered with cobwebs and layers of fallen leaves.
He was wearing clothes, Zha Wenbin half-closed his eyes, and his heart was very uncomfortable. He slowly fell asleep in a daze. It's unknown how long it took, but suddenly a loud thunderclap rang out, and the outside of the house was lit up for an instant. The thunder shook his small hut back and forth. Zha Wenbin was startled awake, and his body was covered in sweat. With the help of the lightning, he saw several small things huddled together not far from him inside the house. Upon closer inspection, they were a few mice, with the leader being particularly noticeable, its tail was white, and it was grooming the wet fur of two smaller ones beside it. The ugly appearance of these creatures made him feel a wave of disgust.
He was about to grab the incense burner on his bedside table and smash it, but he changed his mind: these few mice were also pitiful things, if not for the strong wind and heavy rain, how dare they risk their lives to come into a house with people. So, in his heart, he suddenly felt pity again. He thought about the dry food in his backpack and took out one, splitting it in half and throwing it over, saying: "Eat, you and I each have half, it's actually you who added a few points of vitality to this house."
Those few mice, however, were not afraid and sniffed the dry food on the ground, boldly took a bite, and sat down to eat. At this time, Cha Wenbin also heard a crisp bell sound, he suddenly got up, where did the movement in this room come from? After checking around, nothing was found. Suddenly, his gaze swept across, and the two small mice on the ground were playing with each other, one of them holding a bell the size of a fingernail in its mouth.
This was astonishing, as mice are usually afraid of the sound of metal objects colliding. In the past, people used this method to prevent mouse infestations, but these few mice seemed to be playing with them. Perhaps they were tired or perhaps they were bored, but Zha Wenbin suddenly spoke to the mice, saying: "Brother Mouse, Brother Mouse, I've reached such a desperate state that I'm at a loss for what to do next. You, on the other hand, live so freely and easily, coming and going as you please."
The mouse on the ground squeaked a few times, and Zha Wenbin thought the mouse was responding. He said to the mouse: "Brother Mouse, you should tell those little ones that they must be vigilant. How did you know there's no poison in this dry rations? I'm a master who left early without teaching anyone, and I didn't learn my skills well, which led to today's troubles. I don't know if my master will bless me from the afterlife to get through this difficult time."
"Squeak, squeak, squeak" The old mouse turned around on the ground twice, and it's unknown whether it really understood or not. The white-tailed mouse bit off two small bells from the bottom and first wandered around on the ground for a moment, then jumped up onto Zhang Wenbin's bedhead, dropped the bell, and flipped over to go down again.
This is strange, Zha Wenbin also stood up, and as soon as he touched the bell, he felt a bit unusual. He lightly placed his fingers on his nose and sniffed, and a faint scent of incense mixed with a faint smell of corpses appeared. He carefully examined the bell, which was exquisitely crafted, with eight sides, a hollow center containing a bead, and eight figures engraved on the surface, each with a different shape and elegant expression, which also made Zha Wenbin look surprised...
