  peacock royalty, bursting berries, ebony chunks

  more valuable than my writer’s wallet.

  Suddenly, the universe bats curled eyelashes

  like royal sea waves and lets loose a cry

  to shake the foundations of this world

  and it’s many, many neighbors.

  The universe is waking up,

  and her eyes are midnight blue.
