Chapter 2 A Brand New Computer
Old Li saw Wind Smile staring blankly at the computer screen and patted his shoulder saying: "Little Tian, what's wrong with you?"
Feng Xiaotian suddenly felt out of place, so he said "oh" and covered himself by saying: "I think these two things are a bit strange, Uncle Li, do you know what they're used for?"
Old Li burst out laughing and said: "I'm just a rag collector, how would I know about these things? How about it? Do you want them or not?"
Feng Xiao Tian turned his eyes and said: "This... how much do you want to sell it for?"
Old Li looked at the fan and smiled, then looked at the computer monitor and keyboard, hesitated for a moment before speaking: "Two things together... fifteen yuan in total, what do you think?"
As soon as Feng Xiaotian heard this, he immediately began to ponder: looking at Lao Li's appearance, he was afraid that he had not spent much money on buying these two things. The keyboard is made of plastic and can't be too heavy. As for the monitor... he won't use it anyway, what can he do with it? In that case, I must press the price down.
Actually, Feng Xiao Tian had already known that he had picked up a huge bargain. The price of computers in this era was extremely expensive, and it was impossible to think about spending tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of dollars. However... since he had already picked up such a good deal, why not take it all the way?
Feng Xiao Tian made up his mind and immediately put on a ridiculous expression, laughing "Haha" as he said: "Uncle Li, you're not joking, are you? How can these two things be worth such a high price? First, let's take a look at this plastic thing. It doesn't even weigh three or four ounces in my hand. How much could it possibly be worth on the scale? And then there's this other thing. Although it looks like a TV, it's not actually one. If I took it home, all I could do is stare at my reflection in the mirror. What else could I use it for?"
Since it's about the price, one has to mention the shortcomings of the thing, and the lower the better. Feng Xiao Tian finished speaking and stared straight at Old Li, trying to guess Old Li's thoughts from his expression.
Old Li was stunned for a moment, then said: "Xiao Tian, although I don't know what this is, just by looking at the appearance of these things, it's clear that they're not simple. This plastic... let's not talk about that for now, take a look at this 'TV'... although it's not a TV, it's at least similar, right? Now even broken TVs can sell for over ten yuan, and I'm offering you a price of fifteen yuan for both items, which is really a good deal, isn't it?"
Feng Xiaotian knew that Old Li was just barely holding on, and now it was a matter of who could hold out longer. Feng Xiaotian rolled his eyes and said: "Uncle Li, we've known each other for so many years, you also understand me, originally I only took a liking to the iron box outside, as for these two things..."
Feng Xiaotian stopped here, and Old Li's face showed a look of anxiety. Seeing this, Feng Xiaotian continued: "I don't know much about them, although I can buy them, you can't sell them too expensively either. How about this? The two items together... altogether 7.5 yuan, what do you think?"
Feng Xiao Tian directly cut the price in half, and after saying this, he stared at Old Li tightly. Old Li's face showed some disappointment upon hearing this, but his heart was secretly rejoicing. These two items were things he hadn't spent any money on; they were obtained by trading a pack of cigarettes with the security guard who had sold them to him. The security guard had been eager to get rid of them and hadn't haggled over the price. Old Li had simply acted as an intermediary, and after calculating the profit from this transaction, he found that he had made several yuan. Although it wasn't a lot of money, it also wasn't a small amount - at a time when a fried dough stick cost 25 cents and a notebook cost 30 cents, several yuan was really not a small sum.
Old Li pretended to be disappointed and hesitated for a moment, finally nodding his head: "Okay... okay, I'll sell it to you. As long as you give me the money, you can take these two things away."
Feng Xiaotian nodded upon hearing the words, pulled out an old wallet from the innermost pocket of his shirt, counted out 7.5 yuan and handed it to Old Li. After putting away the wallet, he quickly tied up the computer monitor and keyboard together, picked them up and headed out, his heart racing with excitement, even forgetting to bid farewell to Old Li.
Feng Xiao Tian picked up the computer case in the yard and then ran out at the fastest speed, looking like he was being chased by a dog.
The whole computer fell into Feng Xiaotian's hands, which is almost like a pie in the sky. If Old Li didn't know much about computers, it would be impossible for Feng Xiaotian to buy it for just 10 yuan. The computer looks brand new, with no signs of wear on the monitor and case, so it shouldn't have any problems. Calculated at its true market value, it's worth over 10,000 yuan!
The computer is a bit cumbersome, but Feng Xiaotian holds it in his hand and feels very light. He walks far away before he can't help but cheer up. If there were no people on this road, he would probably be treated as a madman by others.
Feng Xiaotian held the computer and took a shortcut, speeding along until he finally returned home. Only then did he let out a sigh of relief. After closing the door, Feng Xiaotian moved the computer to an old desk. Next... next, Feng Xiaotian was at a loss because he had never really touched a computer before and naturally didn't know how to assemble it.
Feng Xiaotian stared at the three major computer components, looking left and right, especially at the numerous interfaces on the back of the computer case, which almost made his eyes dizzy. After observing for a while, Feng Xiaotian found a seemingly stupid but correct method - he picked up various wire heads and compared them one by one with the interfaces on the computer.
After a few more minutes, a fully assembled computer appeared in front of Feng Xiaotian. Feng Xiaotian stared at the computer, feeling a bit hesitant in his heart. He didn't know if he had assembled it correctly or not. What if some wire was connected incorrectly? Wouldn't this computer be ruined once it's turned on?
To be on the safe side, Feng Xiaotian checked all kinds of interfaces again before connecting to the power supply. After pressing the switch on the host, the indicator light on the host immediately lit up, and then a "humming" sound came from the chassis. It seems that everything is normal with the host.
However, the computer monitor did not respond at all. Feng Xiaotian was stunned for a moment before realizing that he had forgotten to turn on the monitor. He chuckled self-deprecatingly and pressed the power button on the monitor. After a few seconds, the monitor lit up, and immediately, Feng Xiaotian saw the Microsoft logo followed by the number "3.0" - this computer was actually installed with the latest version of the software!
Feng Xiaotian was extremely surprised, because Windows 3.0 had just been released this year, and he didn't expect this computer to have it installed already, what a pleasant surprise! Feng Xiaotian had studied the theoretical knowledge of computer programming, so he naturally knew the importance of an operating system for computers.
After having fun for a while, Feng Xiaotian picked up the mouse and started trying to open the computer's folder. After the interface switched, he found that the folder was empty, it seemed that this computer had not been used by anyone yet.
