Chapter Thirty-Four: Missing

The blind man said to go get some dry firewood, and took the axe into a nearby forest. The morning mist on the mountain had indeed made everyone choke.

Cha Wenbin took out his compass to take a look at the feng shui direction here, but unexpectedly, he let out an exclamation and walked a few steps, adjusting his position several times. The needle on the compass seemed to have lost its spirit, constantly trembling and unable to come to a stop. Cha Wenbin looked up at the sky, the fog had already dispersed, and the sun was hanging in the air. It seemed that he could only wait until night to observe the stars.

This kind of compass going haywire isnt unheard of, it happens when theres a strong magnetic field interference in the area, but even if the magnetic field changes, the position of the stars in the sky wont change. Putting away the compass and just about to head over to Old Wangs place, suddenly a gunshot pierced through the peaceful valley...

Cha Wenbins smile disappeared, and the road was eerily quiet. Suddenly, a gunshot rang out, and he shouted at He Yichao, "Somethings wrong! It must be Blind Brothers side that has a situation! You quickly follow me to take a look!" After finishing, he also reminded Old Wang and the little girl: "This place is very strange, you two just stay in your original position, dont run around."

Chao Zi was originally a scout and had been trained, so without saying another word, he picked up the hunting rifle beside him and jumped up to follow Cha Wenbin hastily into the forest...

The location of the gunshot should not be far from this resting place, and the two quickly passed through the forest. Suddenly, something was swaying in front, walking towards this side. Chaozi raised his shotgun and took aim, with his finger on the trigger, ready to fire at any moment.

The rustling sound was getting closer and closer, but unfortunately the weeds and trees were already over a persons height, so it was impossible to see what it was, only vaguely feeling that the distance was getting closer and closer. He Yi-chao, this scout, was naturally good at judging distances by sound, he signaled to Cha Wen-bin that they were less than thirty meters away, neither of them dared to move randomly, they could only wait in place for them to come over, suddenly a voice came from the other side: "Ah yo"

"Isnt that Blind Guys voice?" Cha Wenbin shouted, "Blind Brother?" The other side responded, "You guys are here, come over and lend a hand!" The two of them ran over to take a look, and hey, it turned out that the little guy had shot a wild boar, weighing over 100 catties. Blind Guy grinned foolishly, saying, "I came in to gather firewood, saw this thing, and happened to shoot it down with one bullet. Later well drag it back, clean it up, and then stew some wild boar meat to eat."

Three people dragged the wild boar out of the woods and back to the campsite. Hmm, Old Wang and Little Witch were nowhere to be found...

The blind man had just come out and didnt know, but Cha Wenbin and He Yichao knew. When the two of them went in, these two were just outside, one studying the stone statue and the other resting on the ground. This going in and out took only about ten minutes or so, where did the two people run off to?

Zha Wenbin yelled out the names of the two people, and in the empty valley, apart from the echoes that followed, there was nothing else...

This little girl still has the possibility of running around, but this old Wang, no matter what, is an old team member with professional outdoor quality, and will not leave the team without authorization. The three of them checked the scene, but did not find any signs of destruction or attack, all items were intact and placed in their original position, even the two mules were leisurely eating grass, so why was the person gone?

Three people looked at the village in front of them, Zha Wenbin decided to go in and take a look, maybe Old Wang had new discoveries, and it was possible that he brought the little girl in to investigate together. Now Zha Wenbin could only comfort himself like this, if he was really inside, he should have responded to the shout just now. Without tidying up, the three people rushed towards the mysterious village quickly.

A winding small road leads to the village, several men are good at martial arts, naturally it didnt take long, most of the houses distributed around are stone and wood structures, years of disrepair, many have been damaged beyond recognition. Three people shouted out the names of Lao Wang and Leng Yiran while looking around, except for a piece of silence, there was still a piece of silence. According to Zhuo Lao Hans words, no one has lived here for decades. Fortunately, it is daytime, if it were nighttime, Im afraid no one would dare to stay overnight in such a village.

The village wasnt very big, and after more than half a days search, the three of them had combed through the entire village without finding anything. A feeling of unease settled over Cha Wenbin; he kept getting the sense that there was something unspoken about this place, something hed felt from the moment he first saw it from the top of the mountain, but couldnt quite put his finger on. It wasnt fear, but a kind of loss - yes, that was it, a feeling of loss, as if some legend had once been here and then vanished without warning into history, just like those lost civilizations in the desert, where no one knew who built them or who made them disappear.

Suddenly, Cha Wenbin felt that he had fallen into an ancient and unknown world, trapped in a kind of unknown realm, which was completely different from the situations he had encountered before.

Several people searched again, but still no one was found. Cha Wenbin looked at the Yunfeng Mountain not far away, shrouded in mist and thought to himself: "Its impossible for the two of them to have gone into the mountains." These two big living people got lost, right under their noses on a sunny day. To prevent them from coming back later, the three of them discussed it and decided to go back to the village entrance where they had rested earlier to wait.

Watching a large wild boar, the blind man cut off two hind legs and picked some good meat to roast over a fire. However, none of the three had an appetite, and they waited until the sun was about to set without seeing anyones shadow. In the meantime, they went back to the village several times but still found nothing. One thing they were certain of was that people wouldnt leave the mountain; if someone disappeared, it would be within this village.

As the sun was about to set, Cha Wenbin decided to try his luck and took out a turtle shell of unknown age. He clasped his hands together and tossed it onto the ground, watching with wide eyes as he thought to himself, "Can this really find someone?"

Chao Zi eagerly asked: "Wen Bin brother, whats the divination result? Is there any news?"

Cha Wenbin thought for a moment, then slowly opened his mouth: "From the perspective of the hexagram, its not very good. This is a "" hexagram. If Im not mistaken, they are currently in the fourth line. The fourth line of the hexagram says 包无鱼,起凶."

"Are they going to be in danger? Is big brother saying theyre in trouble?"

Zha Wenbin nodded, picked up the tortoise shell, and divined another hexagram. Looking at the tortoise shell, he said: "This is the third line of the Weiji hexagram, which means not in position. The fourth line of the Dun hexagram says not entering the flow, both of which imply encountering danger and disaster. Their best approach now is to use stillness to control movement, which may reduce or avoid the danger and disaster. I wonder where Lao and his group are now. From the hexagram, although they are in danger, they are still among humans. It can be basically confirmed that they are still alive, but their situation is hard to say."

He Yi Chao was also stunned after listening, he naturally did not doubt Cha Wen Bins abilities, he said there was danger, that was basically a certainty: "What should we do now?"

Zha Wenbin looked around at the green hills, the sun was about to set, gritted his teeth: "Wait here, this village is probably strange, tonight well go in and see what happens!"

Zha Wenbin told the two to eat more, tonight no matter what, they had to find some clues, so they replenished their physical strength. The two scouts were in the wild and lived a very rich life. Roasting meat was also effortless. In a short while, the fragrant wild boar meat was being devoured by the two men. Zha Wenbin also took out dry rations from his bag to nibble on. Since his daughters death, he had almost stopped eating meat. After finishing dinner, they checked their equipment separately. The two of them attached the miners lamp to their heads, which was purchased according to the specifications of the wild combat shooting light. The photo effect was very good, and the area illuminated by the light was clear, with visibility of several hundred meters.

Cha Wenbin wanted to look up at the starry sky, but found that it was pitch black above his head. It was a fine day today, why couldnt he see any stars tonight? He couldnt see anything, and Xiazi, who was following him, also looked up, and the light shone on them. Above their heads was a vast expanse of white fog, and it turned out that this place had already started to fog up at night. The height of the fog was only tens of meters, with a thick layer, probably related to what he saw this morning.

Zha Wenbins sense of foreboding grew stronger, the village was definitely built with some intention, but from the top of the mountain, several points were invisible, and at night, he wanted to look at the starlight to distinguish it, but it was blocked, always shrouded in mystery, making people feel like they didnt know the true face of the mountain, only a sense of helplessness. However, for now, theres no time to think about that, since He Lao and the little girl are still in danger, tonight hell sneak into the village again, no matter if its human or beast or ghost, he must get to the bottom of it.

Before they set off, the two of them prepared their ammunition and tidied up the necessary items. Cha Wenbin gave each of them a talisman, instructing them that if they encountered any place that felt off, they could burn the talisman or throw it in the direction they sensed something was amiss. With his back carrying an Eight Trigrams bag and holding the Seven Stars Sword, he led the way into the village on horseback.
