Chapter 118: Falling into the Water

The rain was like a broken jar, pouring down on us with a loud crash, thunder rumbled all around, lightning flashed like a snake, we couldn't see each other's faces, nor could we distinguish each other's figures.

Chaozi knelt on the ground, his tears and rainwater mingling together. Despite Old Wang's efforts to pull him back, he continued to kneel in the direction of Qifeng Mountain, his soft sobbing voice already drowned out by the endless rain. A loud "clang" echoed through the mountain, and the sun wheel fell to the ground, rolling towards the square, and then there was nothing. The landslide buried this piece of ancient history forever in the mud, and also dragged Cha Wenbin deep into the bottomless abyss.

Cha Wenbin's last "walk", that slightly raised corner of his mouth, was so calm and composed, but Old Wang still didn't believe that was him, or rather, that was the real Cha Wenbin.

The heavy rain lasted for a whole day, and Chaozi also knelt in the rain for a whole day, until he fell headfirst into the muddy water, when Old Wang and Heng Roumian finally carried him into the house.

The thatched hut of the medicine collector was packed with people, all sorts of emotions, speculations and sorrows. The wounds of the Tōi sisters and Takao were temporarily treated with herbal medicine. Only Chōji, apart from his physical injuries, probably the hardest to cure was his heart, as no one could swallow the food in the pot that night.

On the second day, there were no clouds in the sky, and the mist on the top of Mount Taihang did not reappear. The originally towering mountain range had become a mess, and its original grandeur and mystery could not be seen at all.

Lao Wang and Heng Roulian made a simple stretcher to carry the high feverish Chaozi, led by the medicine collector, took a last look at Qi Feng Shan, and stepped out into the outside world.

They set out early in the morning, along a mountain path that was not a road. The group of people hurried along with caution and urgency, while the medicine collector told stories about the legends of Mount Qiufeng. Except for Old Wang occasionally responding with one or two words, no one else showed any interest. As dusk approached, when the familiar village reappeared before their eyes, it was unclear whether they felt sorrow or joy, but several people had already burst into tears. The medicine collector was about to part ways with them, saying he needed to find a new place to make a living, but Old Wang asked him to stay together.

Back at Zipingpu, Zhuo Xiong's home was just like it was five days ago, except that Zhuo Yuguang was now stiff. Chaozi was sent to the town hospital by Old Wang, and Taojing sisters also received medical treatment. When Leng Yiran made a phone call to Hangzhou, Leng Suozhang and He Lao took an overnight flight to Sichuan with anxious hearts.

That night, Old Wang mysteriously disappeared again, leaving no information behind. Perhaps he was also unable to avoid blame for this matter, or perhaps he had already been taken away by the organization.

According to local customs, Zhuo Xiong set up a mourning hall. Regarding everything about Zhuo Yuguang, the Peach Well sisters said all they knew. The letter left by Hua Bai Hu Zi was not opened but thrown into the incense burner in front of the coffin together with the paper money, and they were all reduced to ashes.

Zhuo Yu's funeral was very lively, Zhu Xiong spent money to invite Taoist priests from Qingcheng Mountain to hold a grand ceremony for him. He knew that if Wen Bin were here, he would also help this "sinful" old man walk through his last journey with dignity. From an emotional point of view, he was his "son". Instead of Wang Yue and Mu Yi kneeling in front of the mourning hall, it was the Tao sisters. For them, this might be the only thing they could do.

Leng Suo's arrival allowed Leng Yiran to find a place where she could cry out loud, while He Lao looked at the dazed Super and also believed that his brother Zha Ge had really left.

In the three days at Zǐ Píng Pù, Chāo Zǐ was taken to Zhuō Xióng's home. With more people around, he could quickly recover. The quiet and serene courtyard finally had some signs of life. As for Old Wang's matter, Lěng Suǒzhǎng only said that he might come back after receiving a mysterious telegram, then didn't say anything else. He took the little demon girl back to Hángzhōu first.

He Lao accompanied Chaozi to continue staying here, listening to him recount that thrilling experience. For a giant in the archaeological world like him, those things were unheard of. That lost history and culture is still a blank space in academia up until now.

On the fourth day, when Hengmei went to the hospital to pick up their medicine, a group of people in white coats were shouting loudly "Make way, make way!" in the originally crowded outpatient hall. Immediately afterwards, a stretcher quickly rushed through the corridor and headed straight for the operating room.

Under the white quilt, a snow-white hand was exposed outside to receive an intravenous drip, and that person's hand still tightly grasped something. The person with a meaty face only took a quick glance, but felt that thing was very familiar. After a while, he finally came back to his senses and muttered: "Sun Wheel..."

This big guy rushed towards the operating room like a gust of wind, and the nurses and doctors at the door closed it heartlessly. He anxiously grabbed every doctor and nurse who passed by to ask about the situation inside, but all he got was "I don't know". This guy was so anxious that he didn't even take his medicine and turned around to run towards Zhu Xiong's house. Before he even entered the courtyard, he shouted: "Cha Wenbin! It must be Cha Wenbin!"

Chaozi was sitting on the edge of the bed in a daze, when he heard Cha Wenbin jump up from the bed with one swift movement. In the courtyard, the man with the thick face was already surrounded by a crowd of people. He Lao handed him a cup of water: "Child, don't rush, speak slowly."

"I just went to the hospital to pick up medicine for you, and a doctor was pushing a stretcher in. I saw... *cough* *cough*..." The fatty face drank too hastily and choked.

"Go on and say it!" Chaozi couldn't hold back anymore, hearing Cha Wenbin, his old impatient temper flared up again, he grabbed the neck of Heng Roulian's face.

"I saw that the person lying down was holding something in his hand, which looked very much like the bronze sun wheel we saw in the mountain, the one that Wenbin brother threw onto the treetop." The man with a scar on his face finished speaking in one breath and started coughing again.

Chaozi and Zhuo Xiong took off running, the remaining few people, along with the Taojie sisters, followed closely behind. The hospital wasn't far from there, in less than five minutes they arrived, Chaozi rushing towards the operating room first. The door was tightly shut, a red flashing surgical light on it indicating that an emergency operation was underway, just as Old He arrived, a doctor walked out of the room, Chaozi grabbed his clothes and asked: "Who's inside? How are they?"

"Let go, let go!" The doctor was already used to this kind of situation and pushed Super aside to leave. "I'm asking you something!" Super raised his voice.

"I don't know, let's talk about it after the surgery!" The doctor's response was still so mechanical and icy.

Chaozi didn't care anymore, and was about to push the big door open. Suddenly, a voice echoed in the corridor: "Hey, hey! Who are you people? What are you doing here?" A man wearing glasses and a white coat shouted.

"Director, they want to rush into the operating room." The male doctor said with a sense of grievance.

"What nonsense! We're in the middle of rescuing a patient, you're delaying treatment!" The hospital director scolded Chaozi bluntly.

With a "thud", Chaozi suddenly knelt down, and Zhuo Xiong followed suit. Chaozi's voice was choked with emotion as he said: "It's very likely that it's my older brother inside, please save him, I beg of you, Doctor."

"What are you doing? Rescuing the wounded is what we should do. I'm here to perform surgery. The person inside, reportedly a fisherman found in the river... whether or not he's your brother, we'll know after the surgery." With that, the director pushed open the door and went in, leaving the male doctor to hurry away as well.

In the long wait, nurses and doctors with blood-stained bandages and trays kept going in and out, their faces were extremely tense. More than an hour later, several police-like men also arrived at the hospital entrance under the leadership of that male doctor. "Are they the ones?" "Yes, it's these two people!"

One of the police officers said: "You few, get up and go to the office, there's something that needs your understanding."

"We're not leaving, and if we are going to leave, we have to wait for the people inside to wake up." Chaozi rolled his eyes.

Next to a police officer saw him not cooperating, made a gesture to go up and catch someone, his hand had just stretched out to touch his shoulder, Super suddenly five fingers became hooks, a small grappling hook, immediately locked the policeman's wrist, painful he straightened.

"Brother, good kung fu! Have you been a soldier?" the leading policeman asked.

"Soldier!" Chaozi coldly threw out a sentence, then let go.

"As it happens, I'm also a soldier. It's not that we want to make things difficult for you, but there are some things that require your cooperation in the investigation, regarding this person inside." After all the fuss, these two turned out to be comrades-in-arms.

"Dad, you stay here and watch, we'll go take a look." Chaozi and Zhuoxiong got up one after the other and followed those police officers, asking each other questions along the way. It turned out they were all from the same unit, just different squads, which deepened their affection for each other. When they arrived at the police station, they were led to a small office where on the desk was an already tattered package with a sword lying next to it.

Chaozi took a step forward and grabbed those things: "Where did you come from?"

"Haha, brothers, these were all found on the person in the hospital. We received a report from fishermen that this person was still breathing, with a sword in his hand and a bag on his back, floating on the river, but there's something in his right hand that he couldn't let go of, which was also taken to the hospital. So, do you two recognize this person?" The police officer politely handed out two cigarettes to the two comrades and asked.

Chaozi said, "Damn it! I knew he had a big life!" Then he was about to leave, but the police stopped him: "Hey, hey, don't rush off, tell us what happened briefly, we need to close the case."

Chaozi and Zhuo Xiongcai didn't care about these things, took Cha Wenbin's guy, rushed out of the office, and threw a sentence: "Wait for him to wake up, then go to the hospital to find me!"
