Chapter Eighty-Seven: The Key

With a loud "thud", the three-legged toad threw the stick at the bronze door and then shifted its body, looking at Cha Wenbin again.

Cha Wenbin looked at its inexplicable behavior, and had no choice but to walk over, pick up the stick and say: "Buddy, what are you doing? Are you having a tantrum?" He turned around to leave, but the three-legged toad moved its body to block Cha Wenbin's way.

"You're still not willing to let me go, are you? But you also saw that there's no way out, we're blocked. This door weighs several thousand catties, how can it be opened?" Zhang Wenbin explained patiently to the big guy in front of him.

The three-legged toad walked up to the bronze door, tapped on it with his tongue "Dong, Dong, Dong" three times in a row, then retreated back to his side, looked at him and croaked.

Although Zhang Wenbin didn't understand what the toad was saying, he realized that this guy in front of him must be a perceptive person and very clever. For its unusual behavior, it must want to express some meaning.

While he was still thinking, the toad's tongue rolled up again, and Zhang Wenbin's staff was taken away once more, and thrown back at the bronze gate. Before he could pick it up, "thud thud thud", three consecutive hits, the big tongue hit the gate again, and this time Zhang Wenbin found that the two times the toad used its tongue to tap were actually in the same position!

The toad's tongue had mucus on it, and Zha Wenbin easily found the three points. The bronze door had three places that were wet and slippery. When he touched them with his hand, a cool feeling came immediately. And these three points happened to form a "pin" shape, which made Zha Wenbin even more surprised. Each point had a special symbol on it, which he had seen before, exactly the same as the carvings on the top of the staff in his hand, namely fish, bird and arrow.

Zha Wenbin looked at the staff in his hand and the carvings on the bronze door. The three symbols on the door were all hidden in the ghost script, and it was not easy to see them at a glance. Could it be that this door and the staff in his hand were related? With a try-it-out attitude, Zha Wenbin started with the bird in the lower left corner.

This is a bird in the shape of an elephant, and from the carving technique, although it's not so vivid, but it also has a tail and wings. If there's anything special about it, it's that its color is slightly different from the bronze color nearby, with a more yellowish tone. However, being embedded in such a huge gate, if it weren't for the three-legged toad pointing it out on purpose, I really wouldn't have noticed it.

Cha Wenbin lightly stroked it with his hand, but didn't feel anything particularly special. It was just a bronze bird the size of a palm, and at this moment he knew that he couldn't be impulsive, so he closed his eyes to experience it.

The bird's carving seemed to deliberately use a circular shape, with its entire body perfectly placed within a relatively regular circle. As he put down his palm, Cha Wenbin happened to grasp the staff, and his heart moved - yes, the size of this circle seemed to be consistent with the thickness of the staff in his hand. Thinking again about the three-legged toad's repeated actions, throwing the staff towards the bronze gate, a word appeared in his mind: key!

"If this stick is really a key, then there must be a keyhole." Zha Wenbin muttered to himself in front of the three-legged toad, but the old fellow was staring at the bronze door with his belly bulging out.

Cha Wenbin thought to himself, could it be that this door really has a keyhole, but I just can't see it? The head of the staff also had carvings of fish, birds and arrows, never mind, I'll just pretend there's no keyhole and try.

Zha Wenbin picked up the stick and prepared to poke at the bird on the door, but then he changed his mind and turned the stick around so that the bird was facing upwards. He poked it against the bronze door and, unexpectedly, the door gave way easily. The bronze door seemed indestructible, but Zha Wenbin felt like his stick had poked into tofu. When he realized that half of the stick had already entered the bronze door, a "crack" sound was heard.

In this ancient underground world for thousands of years, the bronze gate finally made its first sound, announcing that someone had touched its innermost depths. The mechanical and dull sound also left Zha Wenbin stunned on the spot. It was clearly a bronze gate, so how did the staff insert itself so easily?

With just a slight effort, the stick was pulled out by him, leaving a black hole on the bronze door, with something like gold foil hanging around it. With a swipe of his hand, that thing was torn off.

Zha Wenbin looked at the pieces in his hand, on which were still engraved with bird heads. He finally understood that this bird was just a post-processing patch to block the hole, and the material itself was not thick and solid. It was only a thin layer of bronze plate, and then gold foil was pasted on the outside to seal the original hole. Just now, he had easily pierced through this barrier with a forceful poke, it seemed that he had really been deceived.

Found the first keyhole, and the next two were already pointed out by the three-legged frog. All that's left to do is repeat the previous action. Zha Wenbin was very excited, for this kind of unknown world exploration, everyone's curiosity would be triggered, and he was no exception.

He turned around and smiled at the three-legged toad, giving it a thumbs up in admiration of its cleverness. He then walked towards the lower right corner, where there was a fish. Zhang Wenbin measured it with his fingers and found that it was roughly the same size as the bird from earlier, also situated within a circle.

With this in mind, things naturally went smoothly. He raised the stick, with the fish pattern on top facing upwards, aimed at the target, and pushed it in, just like before, without any effort, "click" a sound came, and this mechanism was also opened!

Cha Wenbin retreated a few steps, looking at the bronze door. Now only one was left, and this position was at the top of the door. It seemed that there were two doors connected with an arrowhead carved on it. In ancient times, people needed to hunt, so the quality of their weapons often determined their harvest. Therefore, it was understandable that the arrowhead was placed on top. Whoever could use their weapon to fill their belly could survive, whoever could use their weapon to unify the tribe could become the leader. However, the height of this arrowhead was over two meters, and Cha Wenbin tried jumping several times but couldn't reach it. Moreover, there were things under his feet that made him unable to move. What could he do?

Just as he was searching around for a stepping stone, his gaze fell on the three-legged toad. "Heh heh" with a smile, he walked up to the toad, one hand stroking its nose and the other pointing at the highest arrowhead, saying: "Pal, take a look, it's really too high up there. Can you do me a favor and let me ride on your back?"

The three-legged toad was completely unmoved by this conversation, standing still on the spot. Cha Wenbin rubbed his own head, spreading his hands: "Since that's the case, I have no choice but to leave first." After saying so, he pretended to walk away, thinking of turning back after a few steps. Sure enough, when the three-legged toad saw him really leaving, it immediately let out a "croak" and called out to him. Cha Wenbin stopped in his tracks, turned around, and looked back at the toad, which was reluctantly moving its clumsy body towards the bronze gate, lowering its body at the entrance as if waiting for Cha Wenbin.

Cha Wenbin walked over with a smile, patted its nose and said: "This is the good partner." Just about to flip over and ride on it, looking at the warts on the toad's back, he didn't dare get on again. After all, he had seen with his own eyes how the Corpse King died on those warts. He patted its nose again and said: "Lower your head."

The three-legged toad gave him a slanted glance with its big eyes, thinking that this person was really impolite. I'm also a spiritual beast, and being ridden on the head like this, don't I have any face left?

Although unwilling, it still cooperated. It seems that the thing in this cave has a great temptation to this three-legged frog.

Some people have ridden horses, some have ridden camels, but as for riding a toad, Cha Wenbin is probably the first person in history. With one flip, he landed on its head, although it was a bit slippery, but still relatively stable. The three-legged toad slowly lifted its head, and its buffalo-sized body advantage immediately became apparent, Cha Wenbin could already reach the arrowhead sign, thinking that this was the final test.

With expectation for the world behind the door, Zhang Wenbin raised the staff in his hand and struck it forcefully towards the last point...
