Chapter 264: The Gap Between Shouts

The paper man's face was originally pale, and that appearance couldn't be considered good-looking. The handmade product of the small town is absolutely a perfect prop for horror movies. At this moment, that face has become distorted to a deformed extent due to either the trembling ink lines or other reasons. That expression can be understood as a struggle after reaching the extreme of pain.

Zha Wenbin didn't rush, from time to time he would fiddle with the ink line, and the paper person's painful expression would increase a bit. At this time, Ah Fa's wife's soul had been safely collected into the evil-repelling bell, and the master who was suffering must have had ulterior motives when he was tricked.

To annihilate a trapped and wandering ghost in an instant was merely a trivial matter for Zhao Wenzhen, who held the great seal of Maoshan Tian Shi. However, since he had cultivated the "Ru Yi Ce", his mind was more focused on the level of "virtue". It is worth noting that the Maoshan sect has always been known for its ability to exorcise ghosts, and for these kinds of filthy things that should not exist in the world, they would take a "kill" approach. Now, his state of mind had changed from before, and the murderous heart inherited from the Maoshan school had gradually disappeared.

But this evil spirit indeed has a mind to harm people, otherwise Ah Fa would not have been tricked into this cave without knowing what was happening. Cha Wenbin drew out the Seven Star Sword and pointed at the paper man, shouting: "Evil creature, you don't want to go through reincarnation, it's fine if you're attached to the mortal world, but why do you have to plot against people's lives? If I don't eliminate you today, my ancestors will blame me!"

He swung his sword and was about to slash the paper man, the sharp blade was about to tear through the rice paper made of the paper man, it was really too simple.

The paper man trembled slightly, and then a small gust of wind blew out of the cave. The wind was not strong, just enough to make people squint their eyes. This wind came from inside the mountain cave, perhaps because the paper man was too light, like a kite being blown up, suddenly floating down to the ground.

The entire body of the paper man was supported by a few thin bamboo strips inside, just like how I used to make lanterns with bamboo frames. To say that this thing is fragile is indeed true, but it's not as if it can't withstand any impact, and it will break easily when blown gently to the ground. However, when the paper man fell to the ground, everyone clearly heard a few crisp sounds of the bamboo strips breaking.

The position of the paper man was very strange, it was at the knee joint. The current posture of the paper man is a kneeling posture that even if a person uses their hands to arrange, they may not be able to get into this position. His face was facing Cha Wenbin, with both knees on the ground and an expression on his face as if begging for mercy. If this process were to be told, it's likely that no one would believe it - a paper man actually kneeling down in front of a living person!

Cha Wenbin's sword naturally stopped, and he said coldly: "Heaven has the virtue of good life, you know your mistake, I won't drive you away as a resentful spirit. But I also won't let you out to continue harming people, you shouldn't have stayed in this world, I'll do a good deed, send you on your way, and let you fall into reincarnation, reborn as a human, which is better than being a lonely ghost here."

Having said that, Cha Wenbin beckoned to Chaozi, signaling him to come over.

  Translating to English:

Superior to this matter, for Taoist priests, is a basic skill. The emphasis is on reducing the deceased's sins in life, accumulating more good deeds, and seeking a better afterlife in the underworld. In fact, what's most important is to help the person light up the road to the Yellow Springs, making their journey smoother, so they don't have to suffer from past pains and troubles.

If you have done many evil things before your death, you will be judged in the underworld. Even if you were a monarch of ten thousand people when you were alive, after death you still have to accept the reckoning of the judge, this is what people often say that it's not that there's no retribution, but the time hasn't come yet.

As for how to cleanse the sins, one is to rely on the scriptures that have been passed down by Taoism for thousands of years, and the other is to rely on a small trick of the Taoist priest. This little trick is to bribe the yinshi who comes to take the dead soul. Although the yinshi has a low official position, he is the one who does the most things in the underworld, so if you serve him well, the dead soul will suffer less sin. It's said that small ghosts are difficult to deal with, so when preparing for the super-degree ceremony, those offerings and incense candles are all for the yinshi to enjoy.

Chaozi's pocket still had two earth eggs, which were dug out from Afu's chicken coop in the morning and secretly cooked to be used as a snack on the road. Zhaowenbin saw it but didn't say anything.

Chao Zi held the inkstone box in his hand, saw the paper man kneeling, and felt a sense of confidence in his heart. He chuckled and said: "What's going on? Are you collecting this paper man? Wen Bin, brother, no need for you to take action, I can burn this trash with just one fire."

As soon as he finished speaking, the paper man involuntarily shuddered slightly, fearing that this harmless-looking guy would set himself on fire.

Zha Wenbin looked at him and smiled: "Take out those two eggs of yours."

Chaozi subconsciously covered his pocket, pretending to know nothing, and shouted: "What egg? Where is the egg? I don't see it." This wasn't because he was stingy, two eggs were nothing, mainly he was afraid that Zhang Wenbin would scold him for stealing. A man's head can be cut off, blood can flow, but his face cannot be lost.

"It's done." Zhang Wenbin smiled and walked up to him, "I saw you taking that egg this morning, I thought it might come in handy on the road, so I didn't say anything. Who knew it would really be used? After we finish the ceremony, you can take it back and eat it later."

Chao Zi: "Can that thing still be eaten...?" As soon as he said this, he immediately realized he had misspoken. Wasn't this just admitting to stealing someone else's eggs? Reluctantly, he handed the two eggs over to Cha Wenbin and gave a fierce tug on the inkstone box in his hand. The string wrapped around the paper man's body tightened, making that guy's expression even more unsightly.

There were five elements array on the ground, and Cha Wenbin also stuck a talisman on the forehead of that paper man. In this way, even if the ink box was removed, it would have nowhere to escape.

Mo Dou retracted, Cha Wenbin put the already tattered paper man back on the stone platform, head facing west, meaning to return to the West. He also took a large yellow paper and covered the face of the paper man, and pressed a copper coin on his forehead.

Although there is no flesh, transcendence can still be carried out. The flesh itself will eventually become a pile of white bones buried in the yellow earth. In essence, the flesh after death is no different from paper people, and it is just a shell.

These two eggs are used for divination and can be considered as offerings for this ritual.

Incense, candles, paper money, all of these were brought along, a simple altar was set up, and then it's time to notify the underworld officials to come and collect the soul.

There is also a special connection between Taoist priests and Yin Messengers, as the ones who send souls and those who receive them. Although they exist in two different worlds, the object of their service is the same person. For a Taoist priest to successfully deliver his method, he must let the Yin Messenger take good care of the deceased soul. Similarly, if a Yin Messenger can catch a lonely ghost and bring it back, it's also a meritorious deed. If someone sends him this great gift, he will naturally accept it with a smile.

Thus, for thousands of years, Taoist priests have had a conventional way of communicating with each other, that is, shouting messengers.

Shouting difference is not about shouting, it's actually a kind of scripture similar to a song. This language was also invented by a great god who can directly communicate with the yin difference, and Zha Wenbin and his school call this language ghost script.

The master of the previous generation teaches the apprentice of the next generation, and many are passed down through words that cannot be written. For example, when shouting "cha", it has to rely on the master singing a sentence and the apprentice learning a sentence. No one understands what these songs that teach people to listen but not understand mean, but as soon as this tune is sung, if incense is not lit, yin messengers will arrive and take away the ghosts and fox spirits that have been subdued by the Taoist priest.

Some people say that this is the Taoist priest who has been doing some soul-snatching things in the underworld, offending them, and then using this method to make up for it. After all, those who do this kind of thing can't avoid dealing with the masters of that world, so they might as well take advantage of each other's convenience, and everyone will tacitly understand.

The song was sung first, with each character being broadcast one by one from the mouth. Until now, no one has been able to translate the general meaning of this song. When Wen Bin vaguely saw that there was another person in the cave, he knew that the Yin had arrived.

Then it's time to enjoy the offerings, incense and candles, and receive the paper money and ingots. This is also the time when the Taoist priests recite the prayer for the deceased. It's always arranged this way, convenient for both others and oneself.

After the three recitations of the mantra, Cha Wenbin swung his sword towards the burning candle, with a spark flying onto the paper man. In an instant, the paper man turned into a ball of flames, illuminating everyone's face with a fiery glow.

A figure slowly emerged from the rising smoke and flames, now as long as Wen Bin withdrew those five rows of arrays and handed them over to that yin messenger, this super-degree would be considered ended.

It was just such a seemingly smooth process, but it turned out that there were some unexpected twists and turns, and something happened that no one could have anticipated.
