Chapter Eleven: The Star of Gollin
Kolin Records is the music publishing division of Kolin Corporation, a Taiwanese electronics manufacturer founded on August 8, 1963. It is also the only home appliance manufacturing company in Taiwan that has ever established a record publishing department. The company's headquarters are located in Taipei City. Between 1964 and 1966, Kolin produced 16-inch, 17-inch, and 19-inch black-and-white TVs. From 1969 to 1971, the company began producing all-solid-state color TVs. At the same time, it started producing music programs such as "Golden Melody Awards" to promote popular songs; established a "Music Publishing Department", which released records under the brand name "Kolin Records"; and held the "Kolin Star" singing competition, cultivating singers such as Hsiao Li-chuan, Hu Li-wu, and Chi Ch'iu-mei.
At this time in the backstage of the Colins Star Arena
"Ah Wei, do you think I can do it?" Lin Fengjiao's hands, which had regained their fairness due to two months of not doing any hard labor, were clenched into fists and sweating profusely as she anxiously asked Wang Wei beside her.
At this time, Wang Wei was no longer as thin as he was four months ago when he first crossed back to the 1970s. Due to the manuscript fees, his family's life had improved a lot compared to before, and they could eat meat every day. In addition, Wang Wei paid special attention to exercise, which made him grow by more than ten centimeters in just four months, reaching nearly 1.7 meters tall. He was now six or seven centimeters taller than Lin Fengjiao standing beside him.
Wang Wei looked at the contestant on stage, who was singing "Jiao Dao", the theme song of "Blood Handprint". The melody and singing style of "Jiao Dao" were derived from Peking Opera, re-arranged by Gu Jiahui and with new lyrics written by Chen Youxin. This song was very popular in Hong Kong and Taiwan at that time and remained so for a long time, with famous singers like Teresa Teng and Jenny Tseng covering it.
So it's normal for the female singer on stage to cover this song, but this song is adapted from Huangmei Diao, which tests singing skills. If sung well, it will definitely win the hearts of the judges, but it's obviously very difficult to sing well, and apparently, the female contestant on stage did not meet the requirements.
Wang Wei slightly lifted the brim of his newly bought duck tongue hat, looking at Lin Fengjiao with a serious face: "Ah Jiao, you have to believe that you are the best."
"But I, but I've never been on stage to sing before, and I haven't received any professional training." Lin Fengjiao said nervously. "Who says you haven't trained? We've been training for over a month now. Don't be afraid, trust me, you'll succeed."
After hearing Wang Wei's words, Lin Fengjiao fell silent for a moment, then suddenly grabbed Wang Wei's arm and said with an expectant face: "Unless you can accompany me on stage to participate in the competition, I'm afraid."
After being stunned for a moment, Wang Wei touched his nose and said, "Okay, I've been defeated by you. However, I won't sing anymore. At most, I'll just accompany you on the side." "En, no matter what we do, as long as you're standing beside me, I'm not afraid of anything." The two months had already made Lin Feng Jiao develop a certain dependence on Wang Wei. Hearing Wang Wei say that he would accompany her, Lin Feng Jiao's heart suddenly felt at ease, and all her previous worries disappeared.
At this time, the contestant on stage singing "Jiao Dao" was about to finish. Wang Wei used both hands to hold Lin Fengjiao's arms and said: "You wait here, I'll go backstage for a moment." "En", after finishing speaking, Wang Wei pressed the brim of his duck tongue hat backwards and ran backstage. Soon, Wang Wei came out from backstage, smiled at Lin Fengjiao and nodded: "Okay". As soon as Wang Wei's voice fell, the host on stage loudly announced: "Please welcome the next contestant, Lin Fengjiao."
Lin Fengjiao glanced at Wang Wei, who gestured with his eyes for her not to worry, then pointed to the accompaniment band on one side of the stage. Meaning I'm right there. Lin Fengjiao nodded and took a deep breath before walking onto the stage.
After Lin Fengjiao took the stage, the host smiled at Lin Fengjiao and said: "Wow, it's really a big beauty." "Thank you." Lin Fengjiao's face turned red as she thanked him. The host continued with the microphone: "Okay, let's not say much more. Let's listen to songs. Please welcome No. 26 Lin Fengjiao to bring us a legend."
The judge's seat on the platform, a middle-aged man in his 40s said to a woman in her 20s with a duck-tongued hat covering her face: "Xiao Qiao, this contestant is singing an original song. What do you think?"
The woman in the duck tongue cap shook her head and said, "Teacher Zuo, how would I know? I'm not a prophet." The middle-aged man listened to the woman's words, shook his head, and smiled, using his chin to nod towards the band: "Take a look at this one, doesn't she feel like someone you know?"
The young woman looked in the direction indicated by Teacher Li at this side of the band.
A man wearing a duck tongue hat covering half of his face is receiving an electric guitar from the guitarist. The middle-aged man looks at Wang Wei and smiles, saying to the young woman beside him: "How about it? Isn't he more exaggerated than you? You cover half your face with a hat, but he's standing on the accompaniment stage."
The young woman listened to the middle-aged man's words, and her beautiful eyes stared at Wang Wei beside the band, with a curious light flashing in her eyes, then she smiled lightly: "People with strange habits don't necessarily write good songs, do they?" The middle-aged man heard this and smiled: "Let's just listen to the song first."
Wang Wei took over the electric guitar from Wang Bing, the guitarist of the band, while the host was speaking. This brother is quite enthusiastic and gave Wang Wei some reminders. Wang Wei took over the electric guitar, plucked the strings with his right hand, and tried out the sound. He thanked Wang Bing by nodding towards him. Wang Bing looked at Lin Fengjiao on stage and said with a face full of envy: "Your girlfriend is really something!" "En," Wang Wei smiled and nodded. "You're so lucky!" "Thanks," Wang Bing said, patting Wang Wei's shoulder. "Brother, I'll let you take over the stage for now, I'm going to head down first." "En"
Lin Fengjiao smiled slightly at the audience below after the host left, holding the microphone and saying, "Next, I'll bring you a legendary song, hope you all like it."
Wang Wei slightly pressed the brim of his hat, and began to strum the strings of his guitar. Lin Fengjiao also started singing "Legend" along with Wang Wei's guitar melody. The guitar sound slowly rose, and the song floated out in all directions. It was just because I looked at you a little more in the crowd.
Never forget your face
Dreaming of meeting again someday by chance
From then on I began to think of you alone
Missing you when you're at the horizon
When I miss you, you appear before my eyes
When I miss you, you're in my mind
Missing you when you're in my heart
Lin Fengjiao's voice is relatively thick and soft, so the song sounds more mellow, just suitable for this legendary song. As the melody of the legend continues to be transmitted, the audience's brain can't help but imagine a beautiful landscape painting in their mind, with an elegant woman and a handsome man gazing at each other affectionately, for thousands of years, tens of thousands of years. What a beautiful atmosphere!
Suddenly, everyone in the audience had the same thought: "If I could meet someone who loves me like that, it would be great!" The middle-aged man on stage and the young woman couldn't help but nod their heads gently to the music. The young woman closed her eyes, occasionally furrowing her brow before relaxing.
As time slowly passed, Lin Fengjiao sang the last sentence of the legend, just because she looked at you for a moment in the crowd, the song ended. But the audience below was still silent. There was no applause or cheering, and when Lin Fengjiao finished singing, seeing the audience react like this, she felt very disappointed and secretly sighed, "Could it be that I'm still not good enough?" But Lin Fengjiao's thought had just flashed out, and was immediately denied by what happened next.
"Lin Fengjiao, I love you, Lin Fengjiao I love you." The audience suddenly erupted into a fervent cheer after a brief silence. All the judges on stage exchanged glances and began to mark their scores.
The middle-aged man who was just sitting in the judges' seat took a deep look at Wang Wei, who was still standing on the stage, and said to the woman next to him: "The singer on stage is not bad, but I appreciate the creator of this song more. If there's a chance, I really want to meet him."
The young woman listened to the middle-aged man's words and stared at Wang Wei on the band seat, with a flash of appreciation in her eyes: "The person who wrote the song is very talented. If I have the chance, I would like to meet this person too."
A middle-aged man smiled and said, "Are you thinking about that Golden Melody Award program again?" The young woman saw that the middle-aged man had guessed her intention and didn't hide it, saying, "Yes, the Golden Melody Award is a stage for people with talent. This composer is so talented, it would be a pity if he didn't go on the show." After hearing the young woman's words, the middle-aged man smiled and shook his head, saying, "You, you."
After a while, Lin Fengjiao's scores were announced, with the highest and lowest scores removed. The average score was 96.7 points. This score is currently the highest among all contestants who have taken the stage. Originally, the judges wanted to give Lin Fengjiao full marks, but due to a long-standing habit of not giving full marks to contestants, as well as a minor flaw in her Douyin performance, they gave her 96.7 points instead.
After the host finished dividing, Lin Fengjiao excitedly rushed into the band and gave Wang Wei a hug. This caused the male fans in the audience to glance sideways, with one man whispering: "Who is this guy? How did he get a hug from my dream goddess Lin Fengjiao?"
The man had just spoken when his friend beside him asked in confusion, "Isn't your dream girl Teresa Teng? How come it's now Lin Fengjiao?" "Can't I have two dream girls?" The man's words left his friend speechless.
Lin Fengjiao quickly reported to Wang Wei, then quickly returned to the stage, taking over the microphone from the host. The host saw Lin Fengjiao coming over and said with a playful smile: "Fengjiao, I thought you were going to see me come up and get scared away. At that time, I didn't know what to do."
The host's words made Lin Fengjiao's face turn red as she apologized repeatedly. The host, seeing Lin Fengjiao apologize, smiled and said: "Fengjiao, no need to apologize, you should know that your song just now was really too good, I only listened to it once and was captivated by your singing, I'm a fan of yours now." As he spoke, the host pulled out a small notebook from somewhere: "No way, as compensation for the blow you dealt me earlier, you have to sign an autograph for me." Lin Fengjiao, hearing the host's words, looked embarrassed and took the notebook, signing her name with flair.
Looking at Lin Fengjiao's signature, the host exclaimed in surprise: "Fengjiao, I didn't know your handwriting was so good! It seems that there really are perfect people in this world. You're beautiful, you sing well, and it's rare to have such good handwriting." Listening to the host's praise, Lin Fengjiao thought to herself: "How does Ah Wei understand everything? If he hadn't helped me design my signature earlier, I would have been embarrassed today."
The host livened up the stage atmosphere with a few jokes, then let Lin Fengjiao go and rest for a while, before announcing the next contestant's song.
Due to Lin Fengjiao's original song, the subsequent contestants felt tremendous pressure. As a result, they all performed abnormally and their scores were not high. So Lin Fengjiao directly advanced to the top 10 with the highest score in the field, while other contestants needed to participate in the elimination match, replay and so on.
As the host announced Lin Fengjiao's promotion to the top ten, Wang Wei pulled Lin Fengjiao away in a hurry. By the time the host announced the end of the preliminary round and many fans rushed backstage to find Lin Fengjiao, Lin Fengjiao and Wang Wei had already disappeared. The young woman who was standing in the crowd, who had just been sitting on the judges' panel, flashed a hint of regret in her eyes because she couldn't find Wang Wei, but it only lasted for an instant. Then, a bright light flashed in her eyes again, and she muttered to herself: "You little scamp, you can't escape my palm."
