Chapter 27: The Mafia

  Chapter 27: The Mafia

Five little princesses dressed in finery walked out of Jenny's room, exclaiming.

Jenny had already told them on their way here that they didn't need to dress up too much because there would be a surprise after they arrived.

It's just in front of you.

Five people, all wearing beautiful retro-style princess dresses.

Catherine was wearing a pure white dress at this time, looking like a delicate white swan.

"You look lovely, Jenny." Ida was also delighted. She wore a black evening gown with a bold design that exposed half of her back. It seemed that Jenny had put some thought into it, choosing clothes that suited each person's characteristics.

"Jenny, how come you have so many retro beautiful clothes here?"

  Lily smoothed out her skirt.

"My grandfather liked nostalgia, so he collected all these clothes and even had a special place to display them."

"Really?!" Lisa's eyes lit up, "Let's go take a look!"

"Time is running out...... but it's okay to take a look."

Jenny led a few people down the corridor and came to a door, then opened it.

Inside are placed models, all wearing luxurious evening gowns, and there is not a speck of dust on them, looking as if someone has been cleaning them regularly.

These clothes are all women's clothing from the 18th to 19th centuries, the biggest common point is that they all have a slender waist, it seems that European fashion at that time was like this.

"This waist is really slender." Lily said as she looked at it.

Listening to this, Catherine looked at her waist and seemed... didn't feel a bit "tight" at all?

"Our corsets are fake, actually they don't have any function at all. However, the clothes these models wear are genuine 19th-century items and are precious."

They are indeed treasures, some of which have diamonds and gold as decorations, it looks like collecting these clothes cost a lot.

Suddenly, Catherine noticed a golden girdle, but the more she looked at it, the stranger it seemed.

"Why is there no armrest here?"

Catherine noticed that although the clothes were magnificent, they seemed to be made for someone without hands.

"That's a DeMoulin binder, it's to bind the hands. You know, at that time women's rights were not guaranteed, men liked some strange things."

  Jenny explained.

Indeed, foot binding and corsetry are both forms of deformed aesthetics in a certain sense.

But sometimes it seems that having a slender waist is actually quite good?

Lisa is very interested in these clothes.

But now they don't have so much time left to appreciate it.

"Alright, girls, we should get going." Jenny glanced at the clock on the wall; they had already been delayed for a long time.

A group of princesses came to the hall with a smile.

  "Happy birthday, Jenny!"

As soon as she entered the hall, a handsome man came up to her. Jenny was slightly hesitant but also smiled at him with a smile.

"Who is he?" Catherine whispered, but didn't think she was heard by him.

"This beautiful girl, my name is Jeffry Gambino."

  "Ah......hello."

  Gambino?

Suddenly, Catherine's mouth became very large.

  Mafia!

These three words suddenly appeared in Catherine's mind.

That's right, 1960s America was the heyday of the Mafia. The famous film "Lord of War" also used a background from that time.

The Buono, Colombo, Gambino, Genovese and Lucchese families. These five families are also the most powerful in today's Mafia and the five most notorious American Mafia families.

Catherine was somewhat hesitant, but finally she could only calm down.

After all, not every Gambino is necessarily a member of the Mafia.

But then Catherine looked around and suddenly found out that things seemed to be just like this...

The people in the dance pool may look gentle and elegant, but the fierce big men standing next to them are obviously protecting these people. The guns at their waists are all exposed halfway, if you can't see that, then you're a failure as a person.

"Could it be that Jenny's grandfather also because of this relationship, then..."

Catherine suddenly thought of her own film.

In this era of Hollywood, it can be said that there is no one who has nothing to do with the Mafia.

Anyone who is in Hollywood and doesn't have a connection with the Mafia basically can't make it.

This situation is somewhat similar to Hong Kong in the 1980s.

In other words, if they were pressuring the American Film Association...

It's indeed a simple matter, and the film itself isn't a big investment or heavyweight. Since I've been invited, maybe it'll just pass easily, even if you're Catholic, you're afraid of death.

Catherine carefully recalled the history of the American Mafia.

The American Mafia, also known as the Italian-American Mafia, is believed to have originated in Italy and was first formed by Italian immigrants. Its power in the United States rose during the Prohibition era of the 1930s and reached its peak in the mid-20th century, until a series of federal investigations in the 1970s and 1980s dismantled much of its power.

In 1961, with the arrival of America's Golden Age, also the peak of the Mafia.

The Italian-American Mafia in the United States first gained power in the New York area, and eventually formed into five families, one of which was the Gambino family.

The Gambino family is now run by Carlo Gambino, the most farsighted and intelligent of them all.

The reason why Catherine knew this person was also very simple.

Because he is the prototype of the movie "The Godfather"!

He was sued countless times but never convicted!

Carlo Gambino knew politics and law, he was the only Godfather to leave law enforcement baffled. Beyond his omnipresent influence and dazzling wealth, no one is quite sure what he actually did.

Catherine had once considered going to film The Godfather, but by the time it came around, she realized she had to be more careful, she didn't want to ruffle certain people's feathers.

"If only I could travel back to the 80s..."

  Catherine muttered under her breath.

Indeed, in the 1980s, everything was there, and New York's public security also started to improve at that time.

She was lost in thought when Ada bumped into her, and it wasn't until then that she realized she had been staring off into space, while Jeffry remained perfectly polite.

"Excuse me, I spaced out for a second. My name is Catherine, nice to meet you."

  "It's all right, beautiful miss."

Looking at him, Catherine couldn't lift her spirits no matter what.

She always felt uncomfortable about being involved with the Mafia.

"Just you wait and see, one day I'll reach a height where all of you will look up to me!"

Somehow, this idea began to appear in Catherine's mind.
