Chapter 2: Petalburg Hospital

  "How are you feeling?"

Looking to the side, the boy saw a middle-aged man wearing a white coat sitting beside him, a doctor he thinks.

"I'm fine doc, where am I?" he answered as he looked around the room, laying down on a bed.

"You're in a hospital in Petalburg City," the doctor said. "You were malnourished and fatigued when you arrived here."

"Do you remember what happened to you? and can you tell me your name?" the doctor added with a kind tone.

The boy stared back at the ceiling and thought of an answer, a few seconds passed and he said.

"I'm Jaw... Jaw Breaker, and I don't know what happened to me."

"I see, Mr. Jaw... Breaker," the doctor mumbled as he swiped through his phone, or was it? Jaw could not recognize the model. "Do you not remember anything at all?"

"I was on a beach...I don't know how I got there, then I saw smoke in the forest and went there, because I thought someone was... there."

"I felt really weak, and my whole body was aching, I don't know why. And when I arrived, I think I saw a person, he suddenly ran towards me and that was the last thing I remembered."

A few seconds of silence passed before the doctor stopped typing on his device, he looked at Jaw and said.

"I see, that was all. Thank you for being cooperative, I know you must be confused. I will call someone more suited to explain more about your current situation," the doctor stood up and left the room, leaving him alone.

  Petalburg... where is this?

Jaw did not recognize the name, though it did sound familiar. One thing was for sure though, he wasn't at his place anymore, and he did not know how.

He thought about his situation more when the door suddenly opened, and a young-adult female wearing black clothing with a red jacket entered.

She was blond and had sharp eyes, she looked heroic, and gave the vibe of someone who couldn't be messed with. And she also had a lasso on her waist for some reason.

She looked towards Jaw and smiled, offering a handshake which Jaw reciprocated.

"Ranger Myla at your service," ranger? thought Jaw. "And this is my partner, Audino."

You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.

Right after Ranger Myla said that, a strange pink creature walked out behind her, offering Jaw a smile.

  What???...

"We found you passed out in a trainer's campfire, we asked them if they knew you but they didn't."

  Is... is th-that an Audino?

"We searched for your records but we didn't find any, it's as if you did not exist."

No, wait... that crab, no wonder it looked so familiar... a Corphish...

"Of course, we cross-referenced between the Regions just in case you were from another um... Region. But still, no dice."

This must be a skit... Is this that program where actors cosplay? for the terminally ill kids? Am I actually dying?

"In some very rare cases, people somehow find themselves in different Regions due to Psychic Pokémon umm.. are you listening?" said Ranger Myla as she waved her right hand in front of Jaw's face.

"Ah? oh, sorry, I was thinking about something," said Jaw as he looked away and awkwardly scratched his head.

"No, it's fine," said R. Myla as she waved her hand. "You must still be feeling woozy. Do you want me to explain again?"

"Ah, no... I got the gist of it. Please continue."

"Alright," nodded R. Myla. "What I was trying to say is that we couldn't find anything about you. Can you give us any information at all as to where you came from? What Region?"

"I'm sorry, I c-can't remember anything," Jaw said with a sigh. "All I remember is that I was suddenly on a beach, before that, nothing."

He wanted to play it safe, so he lied. He was confused about... everything.

Were they doing cosplay for no reason? A local hospital tradition? Or is that Audino actually real? and how did I really arrive on that beach?

He wanted to confirm then and there but decided against it. He opted to wait as doing so might make him suspicious if the Audino was really real.

Gosh, am I really that delusional? this has got to be cosplay.

"Are you alright kid?" asked Myla, concerned as Jaw was staring into space and shaking his head. "Heal the kid, Audino, he might still be feeling bad."

"No, I'm fine-" he said, not wanting to participate in an awkward skit of the Audino 'healing' him, but paused as the could-be Pokémon did something in the realm of anime-bs.

"Audi~ Audino~," said the pink creature as it pointed its arms to Jaw, and out came pink-like waves that made him feel things, nice things.

Oh God! Not a skit! Definitely not a skit!

"You good, kid?" asked Mayla, concerned that Jaw, instead of feeling better, became a bit paler instead.

"Y-yeah! I-i am fine, thank you," he said, fidgeting a bit in his bed. "W-what was that?"

"Never seen a Heal Pulse before? that's what Audino used."

She said just as Audino finished the move. Jaw looked at the now-confirmed Pokémon and the creature noticing his gaze looked back and smiled.

Jaw reciprocated with his own, although a bit awkward, smile.

"Yeah. Does i- Audino know more moves?" he asked, half-scared of the implications of a Pokémon being real and half-excited that Pokémons might be real.

Myla, seeing Jaw looking a bit brighter, decided to humor the kid and asked Audino to perform a few more flashy moves. Or more specifically, the move Misty Terrain which changed the room to have a pink-like mist.

And it worked, as Jaw looked even more excited, seeing his grin and blush. A minute or so and Myla said to Audino.

  "Alright, stop."

Myla commanded and the pink festival stopped, causing Jaw to be dejected, and she felt bad about it, but they had more important things to finish.

"I will assign you a temporary id, at least until we know what to do with you, or we find where you're from," she said typing on a device similar to what the doctor had. "No worries though, even if we do not find anything, which is unlikely, you can always stay in Hoenn."

"And also, I forgot to mention. You need to stay in the hospital for a week, 2 weeks at the latest. The doctor said your body needs a bit of rehab, so you'll be doing small exercises and stuff for that time."

"Here's my number," said Myla as she gave Jaw a piece of paper. "You don't have a Pokégear, but you can use the PC inside the hospital to call me if you need anything."

With that done, Myla stood up and patted Jaw's shoulder. She moved towards the door and opened it, then turned back to him.

"I need to go, don't hesitate to call me alright?" she waved goodbye and then left the room.

Jaw looked at the piece of paper in his hands, a single line of numbers written on them.

  "Yeah, cya."
