Chapter 43: Heavenly Book

Only then did Bi Yao solemnly and sincerely knock three heads, before standing up, glancing at Zhang Xiaofan, who was staring elsewhere, motionless, with a furrowed brow, but didnt say anything, and lightly said: "Lets go!"

Zhang Xiaofan had originally felt a bit of affection and closeness to this woman when they walked in together, but at this moment, seeing these two evil gods, he suddenly remembered the differences between their sects, remembered the teachings of his masters since childhood, and his expression naturally cooled down. He nodded slightly and said, "Good."

Bi Yao glanced at him and walked further in, Zhang Xiao Fan followed behind her. This time they didnt walk far before entering a spacious area. However, this place didnt seem to be decorated like the stone room outside, but rather a mountain cave with stalactites and strange rocks. The colors of the various stalactites were also vibrant and diverse. In front of them, at the entrance of the cave, stood a large stone monument with ten big characters carved on it in a majestic manner: "Heaven and Earth are not benevolent, treating all living things as straw dogs!"

These ten large characters, each one is almost as big as half a person, the strokes are ancient and simple, the momentum is vast and powerful, straight and winding like dragons and snakes, as if rushing out to meet you, with a majestic and overwhelming momentum.

Zhang Xiaofan initially didnt think much of it, but after staring for a moment, he suddenly felt dizzy and his whole body involuntarily took a step back.

He was shocked in his heart, and he quickly calmed down, but saw that the word was still on the monument, not moving at all, only this momentum was really scary.

Zhang Xiaofan was shocked in his heart, and when he turned around, he saw Bi Yao had already walked past the giant stone tablet and was heading towards the depths of the mountain cave. He followed her as well. After passing by the stone tablet, all that could be seen behind it were strange-shaped stalactites everywhere. The two of them wandered in the forest of stones for a while before Bi Yao, who was walking ahead, suddenly stopped and let out a soft cry.

Almost at the same time, Zhang Xiaofan suddenly felt that the fire stick he used to fix his arm had suddenly emitted a strange light, especially the bead on the front of the fire stick, which was emitting an unusual green light, but this time it was soft and gentle, as if meeting an old friend who had not been seen for many years, with endless nostalgia and affection.

Zhang Xiaofan looked forward in surprise, his gaze passing by Biyaos side, and saw the scene that surprised Biyao: at the bottom of the cave was a smooth stone wall, with a tunnel on either side leading to unknown places. But under this stone wall was a bluestone platform, on which sat a skull, sitting upright in a tranquil manner.

The bead on the fire poker was now facing the skull and emitting a soft blue light.

Bi Yao stood in the front, unaware of Zhang Xiao Fans strange expression and the change in his hand holding the fire poker. After her initial fright, she quickly calmed down.

After all, she was a member of the demonic sect and wouldnt be afraid of a skull. She walked forward, took a closer look, but didnt find anything unusual. Turning her head back to Zhang Xiaofan, she smiled and said: "Maybe this is the black-hearted old ghost who shook the heavens 800 years ago!"

Zhang Xiaofan naturally had no good feelings towards the people of this demonic sect, and snorted, saying: "Lets just hurry up and see if theres a way out."

Bi Yao gave him a glance, pursed her lips and said: "Find it yourself!"

Zhang Xiaofan was stunned for a moment, feeling a bit embarrassed, and hummed, then turned around and walked into the tunnel on the left.

He hadnt taken two steps before he shook his head secretly, feeling that he was so agitated when facing this demonic woman, and wondered if she was mocking him at the moment.

But thinking about it, since he had taken the first step, there was no going back. He walked a few steps, but there was no movement behind him. It seemed that Bi Yao hadnt followed him. Zhang Xiao Fan felt a pang of disappointment in his heart for some reason, but immediately scolded himself "no guts", and perked up his spirits to carefully make his way deeper into the tunnel. The tunnel that Zhang Xiao Fan was currently in wasnt any different from the road outside when he came, but it was much more quiet and deep. Looking far ahead, it was almost pitch black, and the road seemed longer too. He really couldnt understand how those demonic cultivators from the Blood Hall had managed to build such a massive project back then.

After walking for a while, Zhang Xiaofan suddenly felt that the front was gradually brightening up. His heart was filled with excitement and he quickened his pace to move forward. He saw that at the end of the road ahead, soft light was spreading out, standing out clearly in the darkness, like gentle fingers, tempting people in the world.

Zhang Xiaofan took a deep breath and stepped into that patch of light.

Bi Yao watched as Zhang Xiao Fans figure disappeared into the tunnel, stunned for a moment, her face turned gloomy. Her father was a high-ranking and powerful figure in the demonic sect, from a young age she had been treated like a princess, who would dare to disobey her?

Unexpectedly, today in this desperate situation, she encountered a young man with a strong sense of justice and a bad temper, which made her angry.

Its said that Zhang Xiaofan was also a gentle and easy-going young man when he was at Qingyun Mountain, so why did he become so clumsy and accident-prone when he was with Bi Yao? Apart from the difference in their social status, perhaps even he himself couldnt explain it clearly.

These things were naturally unknown to Bi Yao, but Zhang Xiao Fans repeated provocations had been seen with his own eyes, making him extremely uncomfortable in his heart. However, both of them were currently in a desperate situation, and it wasnt suitable for him to take action to teach this kid a lesson. He could only hum a sound, remembering it in his heart, but there was no way he would let Bi Yao follow Zhang Xiao Fan willingly.

She barely hesitated and turned around, walking into the tunnel on her right.

After walking a few steps, Bi Yao felt that this was a road similar to the outer tunnel, but there were fewer glowing objects on both sides of the stone wall, making the tunnel somewhat dim.

Its okay, this road is not very long, and Bixiao soon walked to the end and stepped into a stone room again.

This is a medium-sized stone room, one side has many shelves, and the other side is piled with a pile of garbage, mostly iron objects such as knives, swords, and guns, most of which are damaged. The most eye-catching thing is that on top of it, an axe was casually thrown, its entire body rusty, quite large, and still intact, looking like it was cast in iron.

Bi Yao lost interest after a glance and walked to the shelves, took a closer look, her face first showed great joy, but soon changed to disappointment.

Only the shelves were lined with labels, some of which had faded words, but others that could still be made out, all of which stirred ones heart, such as "Five Peaks Divine Halberd", "Moon-Seeking Zither" and "Parting Persons Awl".

Bi Yao grew up in the demonic sect since childhood, and her father was a genius who knew ancient and modern things. With such a rich family background, she naturally knew that these were all top-notch magical instruments and secret treasures in the demonic sects rumors. How could she not be delighted? Unfortunately, on these shelves, most of them had only labels but no actual objects, and her joy was short-lived.

She sighed, but still had a glimmer of hope, and looked through the shelves one by one. Every shelf was empty. Perhaps heaven rewards those who are diligent, and in the last compartment, she actually saw that there was still a small iron box, but this shelf didnt have a label, and it wasnt clear what was inside.

Bi Yaos heart was filled with joy, and she carefully stretched out her hand to pick up the box. She felt that it was quite heavy in her hands, and when she gently shook it a few times, there was no sound coming from inside.

Bi Yao hesitated for a moment, then put the iron box on the ground, took a deep breath, concentrated her mind and prepared herself. With a wave of her right hand, white light suddenly filled the stone room, and a jade-like flower appeared in mid-air, emitting a faint, mysterious fragrance.

Bi Yaos expression turned solemn, her right hand flipped over, and the small flower hovering in mid-air radiated a brilliant light. It flew onto the iron box, enveloping it in a white glow.

Then, Biyao carefully stretched out her hand to open the small box. As soon as she pressed on the iron lid of the box, Biyao felt that the box seemed to be unlocked. She frowned, and the vigilant look in her eyes became even more intense. She gritted her teeth and opened the iron lid with a determined heart.

All he heard was a faint "click" sound, and before he could see what was inside the iron box, a black gas had already emerged.

Bixiaos face changed greatly, almost as if she had been electrocuted, and the small white flower above the iron box rushed down. The black air was instantly enveloped by a white light, and after several violent struggles, it could not escape. A moment later, the black air gradually withered away, while the jade-like small white flower gradually turned black, as if it had absorbed the black air into itself.

Until the black air completely dissipated, Bi Yao also waited for a while before walking over. She focused her attention on her small flower, the "Heartache Strange Flower", which her father had painstakingly refined especially for her. At this moment, the petals that were originally as white as jade had all turned a deep purple-black color, looking rather eerie.

Bi Yaos face changed slightly, and she said in a low voice: " Gu Shi Du! That black-hearted old devil has really gone too far, actually refining this kind of thing!"

She muttered curses at the evil sects elder Blackheart under her breath while casting her gaze into the iron box.

Inside was very simple, a small iron box with only one thing: a golden bell, intact and perfect.

Bi Yao was stunned for a moment, she didnt expect that the iron box contained "Gu Shi Du", such a rare and potent poison, yet it was only guarding this small bell. She looked left and right, but couldnt see anything unusual, after hesitating for a moment, she slowly reached out her hand to pick up the small bell.

  "Ding Dong"

A crisp sound echoed, as if it were reverberating in the human heart, and suddenly resonated in this secret stone chamber that had been quiet for eight hundred years.

Bi Yao picked up the bell, but saw that the bells core was exquisitely crafted and delicate. A thin iron chain was tied to the bell body, and with a slight shake, the bell core gently struck the bell body, producing a sound once again.

  "Ding... Dong."

Bi Yao looked at it carefully, and her girlish heart was delighted. The disappointment she felt earlier had dissipated a lot. Upon closer inspection again, there didnt seem to be anything unusual about it; it just seemed like an ordinary, exquisitely crafted little bell.

But the old mans collection is so mysterious and cautious that this bell must have something extraordinary, Ill ask my father when I have a chance to go out.

Biyao thought for a moment, then made up her mind. She looked at the small bell and liked it more and more, so she tied it to her waist. As she moved her body, a crisp and clear ringing sound was produced, which was very pleasant to hear. Biyao was very pleased and nodded repeatedly.

After that, she carefully checked the stone room again, but there was no harvest, and even she had checked the pile of garbage, there was nothing worth noting, let alone any way out.

After finishing her work, Biyao slowly stood up and went to see how that silly boy was doing.

Before leaving the stone room, she looked back and saw that the room was still in disarray. The pile of garbage had been turned over by her and was now even more chaotic. Various weapons were scattered all over the floor, and the large axe was casually thrown into a corner of the wall.

Then she walked out of this stone room.

Zhang Xiaofan had just entered the left-hand tunnel, which was much longer than the road Bi Yao had taken on the right. Bi Yao walked for a while before seeing the light brighten up, but the situation inside was still unclear. For some reason, there was no noise coming from inside, and she felt a faint sense of worry in her heart. There were many strange and cruel things in this ancient tomb, unpredictable and mysterious, what if...

She subconsciously quickened her pace and walked into the stone room, taking a closer look before putting her mind at ease. There she saw Zhang Xiaofan standing in the stone room, staring at the wall with a dazed expression.

Bixiao let out a breath and carefully observed the stone room, only to see that it was much larger than the one she had arrived at earlier, but it was empty. However, on the hard stone walls of the stone room, there were dense and intricate stone carvings, which Zhang Xiaofan was frowning at intently at this moment.

Bi Yao furrowed her brow and walked forward, took a look, and suddenly a joyful expression appeared on her face. She saw that at the beginning of this stone inscription, only two big characters were engraved.

  Heavenly Book!

"Heavenly Book! This is a Heavenly Book!" Bi Yao couldnt help but exclaim in excitement.

Zhang Xiaofans body shook slightly, and he only then realized that Bi Yao had arrived beside him. However, his attention seemed to be focused solely on her words: "What is this Heavenly Book?"

Bi Yao glared at him and said, "How could I not know? This Tian Shu is the classic scripture of our Holy Sect, passed down from ancient times to the present. All the magical powers of the Holy Sect disciples are derived from this Tian Shu."

Zhang Xiaofans body shook again, and his face was filled with confusion. He turned his head to stare at the stone carvings on the wall, and after a while, he said in a low voice: "It cant be, its impossible!"

Bi Yaos face sank, and she said: "This is our sacred scripture, its the absolute secret of my sect. Didnt you say we were heretics? How dare you sneak a peek?"

Zhang Xiaofan seemed to be deaf to all this, his eyes fixed only on the words carved into the wall.

  "Heavenly Book Volume 1"

The heaven and earth were created, referring to the time of chaos, when the darkness had not yet been separated, the sun and moon contained their brilliance, the heaven and earth mixed their bodies, suddenly changed, and the clear and turbid appeared.

Heaven and earth can be long-lasting because they do not give birth to themselves. However, all things in heaven and earth have their own forms. Living beings are deluded and confused by the concepts of self, others, sentient beings, and life span, thinking that these distinctions are real. As a result, the mind gives rise to the three poisons, three fears, and three terrors, which cannot last long.

The celestial body is not punished, the virtuous path is nameless. Therefore, when speaking of no self, no person, no sentient being, and no longevity, one can attain enlightenment. Holding to the One True Path, embodying the true nature within, is what the heavens and earth take as their heart.

In the stillness of movement, the heart of heaven and earth is seen.

  Neither real nor unreal.

Heaven and earth follow their natural course, without doing anything or creating anything.

If things are not preserved in their entirety, they will be insufficient for use!

  *Note 1*

Bi Yao hummed, originally intending to get angry, but after thinking about it, she didnt say anything and looked at the wall instead. She only read a few sentences before feeling dizzy and somewhat admiring Zhang Xiaofan for being able to understand such dry text.

But turning his head to look at Zhang Xiaofan, he was slightly surprised to see that his face was full of painful and bewildered expressions, and his whole body was slightly trembling, with an inexplicable strange feeling.

In fact, if anyone else in the world were to replace him, they might not have experienced Zhang Xiaofans current emotional turmoil. This so-called "Tian Shu" of the demonic sect, this passage known as the general outline, when seen through Zhang Xiaofans eyes, was almost like a knife cutting into his heart, even more impactful than when he was young and practiced the Daoist cultivation method of Qingyunmen, which was completely different from the Buddhist "Mahayana Prajna Paramita" cultivation method taught by Pu Zhi.

From this text, he suddenly appeared, the Taoist and Buddhist cultivation methods that he had secretly believed to be fundamentally different since childhood, actually had a tendency of different paths leading to the same destination. Even so, although he was shocked, he could still accept it, but as he continued reading on, his face gradually turned pale, only because in this so-called "demonic" scripture, the "Tian Shu", he discovered a great secret.

In this esoteric teaching, various supernatural powers and heterodox methods are extreme and peculiar, but at the root, they all lie in the "heavenly familys emphasis on natural creation and self-cultivation, Buddhisms focus on introspection and self-nature, while the heavenly scriptures seem to cover everything, encompassing both Taoist thought and Buddhist concepts.

If it were someone else, like Bi Yao, they would have no thoughts after reading these words, thinking that it was a great divine ability left behind by their ancestors. But to Zhang Xiaofan, who is the only one in this world who understands the true principles of both Taoism and Buddhism, this matter is extremely terrifying.

An idea he had never had before lingered around him, refusing to be shaken off.

  What is right after all?

He involuntarily looked down, his face pale, his mind in turmoil, with a fierce and strange curiosity, vaguely feeling that a great secret was right in front of him, yet he couldnt touch it, couldnt see it, but was even more drawn to it, rushing towards that goal.

But in his heart, he also had a few points of fear, was this right?

Bi Yao looked at Zhang Xiao Fan for a while, seeing that he was still intently staring at the stone carvings on the wall with an odd expression, seemingly having completely forgotten that she was standing beside him. A sudden surge of annoyance rose in her heart, and she let out a cold snort, but unexpectedly, Zhang Xiao Fan didnt react at all, not making any movement or sound.

Bi Yaos mouth twitched, she was extremely annoyed, but for some reason, she didnt want to take action to teach this person a lesson. With a huff, she turned around and walked out, deliberately making loud footsteps as she left, unfortunately that foolish kid still didnt react at all.

Biyao stormed out of the stone room, back into the stalactite cave, and glared at the skull with a sullen air. Originally, she thought it was nothing to think about, but looking at that little brat made her eyes unbearable. The more she thought about it, the angrier she became. Looking again at the "Heartbreak Flower" by her side, which was originally beautiful but now pitch black, suddenly shifted her anger onto Old Man Heis head.

She pointed at the skull and shouted: "You dead old devil, youve been dead for 800 years but still want to harm people and me, making my Jade Flower become... become..."

One sentence couldnt be finished, Bi Yaos liver fire became more and more intense, not saying much, her sleeve robe waved, "Heartbreak Flower" flew out and circled around that skull once before returning. A moment later, only a piercing bone cracking sound was heard, with a "crack" the skull suddenly fell to pieces.

After she lashed out, Bi Yaos anger finally subsided a bit, and her heart couldnt help but feel some regret, not knowing where she got such a big temper from. But when she turned to look again, she was shocked to find that on the stone wall that had been covered by the skull earlier, there were actually several lines of writing. She quickly walked over to take a closer look and saw that there were four lines of words written on the wall.

The bell tolls, the hundred flowers wither.

A persons shadow is thinning, temples like frost.

Deep sorrow for life, bitter for life

Infatuation is only for those who are heartless and suffer.

Note 1: The outline of this section refers to the "Dejing", "Jingang Jing", "Tan Jing", "Jin Shu Ji Zhan Chuan" and "Zhou Yi Fu Gua Tuan Zhuan Zhu".
