Death of a Madman

I fall to my knees. Almost in slow motion. I take her head and put it in my lap. I check her pulse. Nothing nothing nothing. I scream and I scream and I scream. I scream until I can’t get any sound past my tired, chapped lips. I cry until my cheeks are soaked with tears and I can’t feel anything, nothing at all. And then I stop. All at once. I slowly get up and walk to him. I feel numb. So numb, as I take my knife and plunge it deep in his throat. He can’t even whimper as I smile manically. I laugh. I laugh and I laugh and I laugh. I laugh even as I take my knife and shove it into my chest. I laugh as a searing pain works its way from my heart to the rest of my body. I’m only silent when my heart beats its last beat. When my lungs take their last breath. And when my body hits the ground with a solid thud. Dead.
