Chapter 16: Offending an Enemy
After seeing Wu Mengjiao off, Gu Changfeng returned alone to the private room.
Seeing Gu Changfeng return alone, Lu Chao and others immediately asked about Wu Mengjiao's whereabouts.
Gu Changfeng could only explain that Wu Mengjiao had something urgent to attend to and left the hotel, and before she left, she asked him to come and apologize to everyone.
When Wu Mengjiao left the hotel, Lu Chao and others were very dissatisfied, saying that Wu Mengjiao was not a good friend. Next time they meet again, they must give Wu Mengjiao a good beating.
With no women around, the men became even more uninhibited as they started drinking.
After the banquet, Lu Chao, Wang Hai and Pang Guoming were all drunk. Fortunately, Gu Changfeng was still sober and arranged for a presidential suite at the hotel, where he had Lu Chao and the others stay.
After arranging for Lu Chao and others, Gu Changfeng took a car back home.
Gu Changfeng had an agreement with his daughter Gu Jialan that no matter how late it was or what happened, he would always return home to sleep at night.
Wu Mengjiao returned to her residence and immediately called over her younger brother-in-law, Pete, and scolded him severely. In the end, she even ordered Pete to return the diamond necklace to Ding Dawei, and this auction activity was terminated immediately.
Pete was very intimidated by this Chinese sister-in-law of his, and when he saw that things had been exposed, he was so scared that his face turned white, and he didn't dare to say a word in rebuttal.
Scolding Pete for a while, Wu Mengjiao drove him away. As for her uneducated and untalented younger brother-in-law, Wu Mengjiao was really a bit headache.
Pete came out of Wu Mengjiao's room and immediately took a car to Ding Dawei's residence, directly returning the necklace to Ding Dawei.
Seeing the necklace being returned, Ding Da Wei was very surprised: "Mr. Pitt, what's wrong with you?"
"Sorry, Mr. Ding, I won't be able to help you auction off your necklace after all. You'd better find someone else." Pete's Mandarin was awkward and unnatural, but still barely comprehensible.
"Why? Weren't we getting along well? If you feel that the pay is a bit unsatisfactory, we can still negotiate." Ding Dawei slightly furrowed his brow, thinking that this Pete must be dissatisfied with the pay and wanted to take advantage of the situation to raise the price.
"It's not about the money, it's about my sister-in-law." Pete shook his head.
Ding Dawei was stunned: "What does it have to do with your sister?" Ding Dawei was confused by Pete.
"The auction house is managed by my sister-in-law, I'm just a small person in charge. My sister-in-law already knows that I helped you launder money and scolded me severely, telling me not to do business with you again." Pete didn't hide anything and told the whole story from start to finish.
Ding Dawei furrowed his brow: "Did you tell your sister-in-law the truth?" In Ding Dawei's view, Pitt must have lost control of his mouth and spilled the beans in front of his sister-in-law.
"I'm not that stupid? I also want to make more money." Pete flatly denied.
"It wasn't you who told her, so how did your sister-in-law know?" Ding Dawei was clearly somewhat skeptical of Pete's words.
"I'm not quite sure about this, but my sister-in-law said that if I dare to associate with you again, she'll severely punish me. Mr. Ding, it's best if we don't see each other from now on." After saying that, Pete stood up and left the room.
Ding Dawei stood still for a moment, then grabbed the necklace and chased out of the room, blocking Pete who was about to get into the elevator: "Mr. Pete, I want to see your sister-in-law."
"What? You want to see my sister-in-law? No way, I won't take you there!" Pete's face changed color as he shook his head repeatedly.
"Mr. Pitt, I mean no offense, I just want to have a good talk with your wife." Ding Dawei slowed down his tone.
Pete still didn't respond.
Ding Dawei hesitated for a moment, then pulled out a check from his pocket and handed it to Pete: "Please accept this, Mr. Pete."
Pete glanced at the check and his eyes widened: "1 million?"
"As long as you take me to see your sister-in-law, this 1 million is yours." Ding Dawei said while observing Pitt's expression. Although he hadn't been in contact with Pitt for a long time, Ding Dawei knew that Pitt was not very cunning and was a typical playboy who loved money.
This Pete was introduced to Ding Dawei by Hu Lao, and it's true that Hu Lao is quite good to Ding Dawei. After falling out with Gu Changfeng, he immediately contacted Pete for Ding Dawei. Pete is the kind of person who dares to do anything as long as there's money to be made. He accepted some benefits from Ding Dawei and readily agreed to help him auction off the necklace. Ding Dawei was also very generous, saying that if the auction was successful, he would give Pete a substantial reward. However, at the last minute, things took an unexpected turn, leaving Ding Dawei extremely angry.
"This... Mr. Ding, even if I take you to see my sister-in-law, she won't agree to let you auction the necklace." Pitt said with difficulty.
"It doesn't matter, as long as you take me to see your sister-in-law. Regardless of the outcome, this 10 million is yours." Ding Dawei was very generous, and in his eyes, 10 million really wasn't a big deal.
Pete looked at the check in his hand, his heart struggling, 1 million was not a small amount, enough for Pete to squander for a while. Wu Mengjiao usually managed Pete quite strictly, and the monthly allowance was very little, which was far from enough for Pete's extravagant spending.
"How is it, Mr. Pitt?" asked Ding Dawei.
Pete thought for a moment, gritted his teeth: "Alright, I'll take you to see my sister-in-law."
Ding Dawei smiled: "Then trouble Mr. Pete to lead the way."
Looking at Ding Dawei in front of her, Wu Mengjiao's face didn't look good.
Pete stood with his head down, like a student who had made a mistake, and didn't dare look at Wu Mengjiao.
"Hello, Director Wu." Ding Da stretched out a hand in greeting.
Wu Mengjiao never had any intention of shaking hands with Ding Dawei, she just sat quietly on the sofa.
"Ah." Ding Da withdrew his hand in embarrassment and smiled: "President Wu, I'd like to talk to you..."
"There's nothing for us to talk about." Wu Mengjiao said coldly.
"Wu Zong, I'm genuinely interested in doing business with you. If you help me auction off this necklace, I'll give you a commission of 300 million." Ding Dawei said.
"300 million?! Boss Ding is really rich!" Wu Mengjiao sneered: "Do you know what I hate the most?"
"What?" Ding Da asked subconsciously.
"You're cheating, you actually thought you could cheat me into laundering money for you. Luckily, I had a friend remind me, otherwise I would have really fallen into your trap." Wu Mengjiao said coldly.
Ding Dawei furrowed his brow: "Friend? I can ask a presumptuous question, who exactly told Wu Zong about my money laundering?"
"Do you think I'd tell you?" Wu Mengjiao snorted softly.
Ding Dawei narrowed his eyes: "Is it Gu Changfeng?"
"How did you know... it wasn't." Wu Mengjiao momentarily let her guard down and almost slipped up.
Ding Dawei, who had been through the business world for decades, was extremely astute. The subtle changes in Wu Mengjiao's expression just now had confirmed Ding Dawei's conjecture that this matter was indeed Gu Changfeng's doing. At this moment, Ding Dawei hated to immediately chop Gu Changfeng into pieces with a kitchen knife.
"Mr. Ding, if you have nothing else to say, please leave me alone, I need some rest!" Wu Mengjiao waved her hand, her expression very cold.
"Is there really no room for negotiation?" Ding Dawei asked, unwilling to give up.
"Listen up, I, Wu Mengjiao, will absolutely never do anything illegal or unruly." Wu Mengjiao said resolutely.
Ding Dawei nodded: "Since President Wu's attitude is so firm, I have nothing to say. Goodbye." After finishing speaking, he took big strides and left the room.
Pete also wanted to follow them out.
"Pete." Wu Mengjiao suddenly shouted.
"What? What's going on? Sister?" Pete's body trembled.
Wu Mengjiao stared coldly at Pitt, saying word by word: "In the future, if you dare to make private decisions again, I will send you to your brother's side and let him teach you well."
Pete shuddered inwardly: "No, sister-in-law, don't send me to my brother's side. I'll never misbehave again." Pete was terrified of his older brother, and it had reached the marrow of his bones. In the past, when Pete secretly embezzled company funds to speculate in stocks and was caught by his brother, he almost got beaten to death on the spot. From then on, whenever Pete saw his brother, he would be as frightened as a mouse seeing a cat.
"Hmph! I hope you remember what you said, get out!" Wu Mengjiao coldly snorted.
"Sister-in-law, you rest, I'm leaving." Pete quickly ran out of the room.
Wu Mengjiao let out a soft sigh, stood up and went to the bedroom to rest.
Gu Changfeng sat in a leather swivel chair, holding a cup of steaming tea, his brow furrowed, looking deeply troubled.
"Ding ding ding......" The phone rang.
Gu Changfeng put down his teacup and picked up the receiver: "Hello?"
"Is that the former chairman?" a slightly hoarse voice came from the receiver.
Gu Changfeng felt that this voice was somewhat familiar, but for a moment he couldn't think of who it was: "I am Gu Changfeng, and you are?"
"The former chairman is indeed a noble person who forgets things easily, it's only been a few days and you've already forgotten who I am." The hoarse businessman sneered.
"Sir, who exactly are you?"
"A few days ago we were still having dinner together at the Mingzhu Hotel, I let you taste a bottle of '82 Lafite..." said the hoarse voice.
"You're Ding Dawei!" Gu Changfeng finally remembered.
"The old chairman still remembers me after all." Ding Dawei said with a sarcastic tone.
"Boss Ding, what can I do for you?" asked Gu Changfeng.
"Former chairman, did you tell Wu Mengjiao that I'm going to launder money?" Ding Dawei said slowly.
"Gu Changfeng was taken aback: 'How did you know?'"
"It's really you, Gu Changfeng. Cutting off someone's financial resources is a very shameful thing." Ding Dawei's tone suddenly turned icy upon hearing Gu Changfeng's admission.
"Boss Ding, Wu Mengjiao and I are old friends of many years. I couldn't just watch her being schemed by you without warning her." Gu Changfeng said calmly.
"Hmph! I don't care what your relationship is with Wu Mengjiao, in any case you've cut off my source of wealth, and now we're not done yet!" Ding Dawei coldly snorted.
"What are you going to do with me?" Gu Changfeng sneered.
"Listen up, I'm giving you two options: first, help me auction off the diamond necklace; second, accept my revenge." DING Dawei said viciously.
"Ding Dawei, you listen too, I Gu Changfeng do things one item are very principled, help you launder money is absolutely impossible, as for you want to revenge me, I'm ready at any time, but I want to remind you a sentence, I Gu Changfeng is not easy to mess with." Gu Changfeng said coldly.
"Fine, you have guts! Wait for me! I'll make you regret it for the rest of your life!" After saying that, Ding Dawei hung up the phone.
He slammed the receiver down on the phone and Gu Changfeng's face turned extremely ugly: "Ding Dawei, I'd like to see what tricks you have up your sleeve!"
Gu Changfeng has been dominating the business world for decades, with a complex network of relationships. He has seen all sorts of situations and even received many extortionate and threatening phone calls, but in the end, he was able to handle them all calmly. In Lanzhou City, there is nothing that Gu Changfeng is afraid of.
But Gu Changfeng didn't know that, due to his excessive self-confidence, he eventually got himself into a huge trouble, almost losing the life of his daughter Gu Jialan. Of course, this is all after the fact, and we won't mention it for now.
