Chapter 18: The Righteous Path of Shota (1)
In two days' time, the 31st Grammy Awards will be held at Radio City Music Hall in New York!
The Grammy is a variation of the English word Gramophone, founded in 1957 by a group of musicians and record companies in Los Angeles, USA. It is an institution that represents the art and science of music production, and awards are given to encourage talented musicians, singers, and behind-the-scenes music producers. The first Grammy Awards ceremony was held in 1958, and since then, it has been held annually in February or March.
The Grammy Awards, although awarded in the United States, are considered to be one of the most influential music awards worldwide. Musicians from all over the world are honored to receive a trophy shaped like an old-fashioned gramophone.
The Grammy-nominated music works are records released in the United States between October 1 of the previous year and September 30 of the following year, which are recommended by record companies or self-recommended by artists. After nomination, review, shortlisting, final selection and awarding, the Grammy Awards for various music categories are finally decided. The Grammy Awards are divided into twenty-eight major categories, each with different settings, but four general categories have been set up, namely Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist.
There was one thing that Jerry found strange, when the recording of "Conquering Paradise" was completed, it was already close to October, and this symphony had never been released in the US. Would the Grammy judges really be interested in the Tokyo Philharmonic's trip to Hong Kong? Don't joke! Later, Jerry learned that "Conquering Paradise" would enter the Grammy Hall of Fame, all thanks to the conductor of the Tokyo Philharmonic, Tadaaki Otaka, who took it upon himself! As an outstanding symphonic conductor, Tadaaki Otaka naturally saw the artistic value of "Conquering Paradise", so he recommended this unreleased symphony under the name of DreamMusic! And then there was the nomination!
Radio City Music Hall in New York is one of the world's famous art palaces, located on Sixth Avenue in Manhattan, Rockefeller Center. It has been a premier venue for many famous films and stage shows since its opening on December 27, 1932. Of course, it is also the venue for the Grammy Awards and Tony Awards ceremonies!
The concert hall auditorium has 6,200 purple velvet seats and is the largest indoor theater in the world. The audience seating area from the back to the stage is 160 feet, the ceiling height is 84 feet, and the surrounding walls and ceiling are composed of a series of streamlined arches, creating a brilliant and massive curved space. The large stage of Radio City Music Hall is composed of a giant arched stage, 60 feet high and 100 feet wide. This stage is considered by technical experts to be the most perfect device in the world. It contains three sections using hydraulic-powered elevators. This makes it possible to achieve many spectacular effects and create many dynamic effects. The fourth elevator can lift or lower the entire orchestra. Around the elevators is a turntable, which can quickly change curtains and special stage effects.
Came here two days in advance, mainly because the guys from DreamMusic are not only Grammy nominees but also performers at the 1988-1989 Grammy Awards. They need to get familiar with this unfamiliar stage so that there won't be any accidents on the night of the awards ceremony. Every year, the Grammy Awards ceremony is broadcast live by CBS!
As for Jerry, apart from being familiar with the stage, he also needs to be familiar with his partner!
This partner's background is really too great!
Yes, you all know him, King of Pop, Michael Jackson.
How to describe Jerry's feelings when he saw Michael Jackson? Surprised? Excited? Shocked? Well, there isn't a word in this world that can fully describe Jerry's feelings, all he knew was that his 41-year-old self grabbed the pen and signature board and rushed towards Michael who was wearing black sunglasses!
"Michael, Michael, I'm your super fan, the number one super fan in the universe! My name is Lilo, no, I mean Jerry, yeah, Jerry! Can you sign for me? Just sign here and here. And if you don't mind, can you also sign on my shirt? Just write 'To Michael's most favorite fan, Jerry Gold Roschelle and Lilo'!"
Standing next to Michael Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor, Hollywood's legendary gem, smiled and said, "Look at that, Michael! I bet this little guy may not be your smallest fan, but I guarantee he is the cutest one! Black hair, black eyes, what a beautiful and lovely little boy!"
Michael Jackson smiled with his mouth open, but apart from the happy laughter and satisfying Jerry's autograph request, he did nothing and said nothing. He was indeed a super master on stage, but off stage, he was just a shy big boy!
Clutching Michael Jackson's signature, Jerry was truly ecstatic, for a self-proclaimed number one fan like him, being able to talk face-to-face with Michael Jackson and getting his autograph was like a dream come true!
Alright, now it's just like a dream come true!
"Hey! Hello! Jerry!"
Michael Jackson finally smiled and said his first words to Jerry after signing his name!
"Hi! Hello! Michael!"
Michael Jackson: "Jerry, did you really write this song? I don't mean anything else, I just want to say that this song is really great!"
Jerry: "Yes, Michael, I wrote it!"
The little guy's face is really thick!
Jerry: "I wrote it for you, Michael! But since I didn't know how to get in touch with you, I just had to try performing it myself. Mr. Inada said it wasn't bad!"
"It's great! Jerry, you have to have such confidence! If I were to perform it myself, I'm not sure I could achieve the same effect. Some things, when said by a child's mouth and by an adult's mouth, are completely different! And your MV is also very well done!"
The MV of "Heal the World" is actually composed of pencil sketches and crayon drawings, with a realistic style and children's crayon paintings shining together. The cruelty of war, the bright and pure smiles of children, the cold gun barrels, and the helpless eyes falling in the blood... Such contrasts bring strong shocks! When all the children hold up candles, praying for world peace, and raise their heads to form a globe, the whole song ends!
"Thank you, Michael! I'm really glad you said that!"
Alright, just up to here then! He really doesn't say much!
From 1988 to 1989, Michael Jackson was not nominated for the Grammy Awards. Jerry felt it was a pity because "Man In The Mirror" from the album "Bad", which had the strongest humanitarian tone, could have won the Best Single of the Year award. Perhaps it was due to inadequate promotion or perhaps it was because some racist things were already exposed, but who knows the real reason?
This time, as a performing guest, Michael Jackson will not only perform "The Way You Make Me Feel" and "Man In The Mirror", but also cooperate with Jermaine to perform "Heal The World". This is the choice made by Michael Jackson himself after hearing this Grammy-nominated song!
