Scene 3 - Rezekah: Maid Homicide

INT. REBEKAH SMITH’S HOUSE - SAME TIME

Rezekah enters the home point of their host. They rip the door off of its hinges and toss it outside. The building is dark and quiet. Rezekah stares into the darkness, their face set in a look of consternation.

After a moment, their eyes begin to glow. Rezekah trills.

  REZEKAH

Shame these two-legs don't come equipped with night vision. Luckily, Zex comes with many tricks!

Rezekah starts moving around the house. Their glowing eyes catch sight of the elegant architecture and comfortable furniture. They move around it with sure-footed steps.

  REZEKAH

Zex is getting much better at piloting this host. The two legs weren't so hard after all...

Rezekah stumbles over the slightly raised floor that leads into the kitchen. They catch themselves on the counter, knocking over a wooden bowl of assorted fruit. It crashes to the ground. BANG!

Rezekah winces, standing. They rub their ears gently, shaking their head.

  REZEKAH

  So loud-

A light flicks on, illuminating a hallway. The shadow of a woman is seen on the floor. Rezekah freezes. Soft footsteps begin walking toward the kitchen. An older woman's voice calls out.

  OLD WOMAN

Hello? Ms. Becca, is that you?

Rezekah crouches down behind the counter. Their right arm forms a sharp flesh hook. They grin devilishly.

The woman rounds the corner. Rebekah's maid, MARIA CORTEZ (58), enters the kitchen, dressed only in a blue nightgown. She carries a black and white striped cane, though she doesn't use it to walk. She slowly approaches the counter.

  MARIA CORTEZ

  What in the...?

She stoops down to pick up the bowl.

  MARIA CORTEZ

  (annoyed)

Ms. Becca, if you were coming home to grab a late night snack, you could have at least picked up the bowl before you-

She trails off, her eyes finding the wide open doorway.

  MARIA CORTEZ

Ay dios mío! What happened to the door?

Maria grips her cane and begins walking toward the door. She passes the counter where Rezekah is hiding. They stare at her passing backside, tensing.

  MARIA CORTEZ

Whoever is here, you come out! That door is muy caro!

Rezekah shifts slightly as they stand. Their shoes scrape against the tile floor. Maria spins, swinging her cane like a baseball bat. When she sees Rezekah, her eyes widen. She attempts to stop the cane from hitting them, but it clips the edge of their head.

  MARIA CORTEZ

  (apologetic)

Ms. Becca! Oh, lo siento! I didn't see you! You should've said something, chica, I-

Maria stops talking, noticing Rezekah is fine. She hesitates, adjusting her grip on her cane.

  MARIA CORTEZ

  (tense)

  You’re...okay?

Rezekah lunges at her. Maria brings up her cane, but they knock it aside with their unhooked hand. Maria falls to the ground with a cry. She holds up one trembling arm.

  MARIA CORTEZ

  (tearful)

  Ms. Becca!

Rezekah smiles grimly at her. They step on her portly body and press down, preventing her from getting up.

  REZEKAH

  It's truly nothing personal, human.

  (shrugging)

  Zex cannot leave witnesses.

They swing their hooked arm down, slicing into Maria's head. With a fiendish grin, they tear their hook out of her skull.

The hook transforms back into a hand. The limb drips with gray matter and blood. Rezekah wipes their hand on the corpse casually.

They stare down at the corpse for a few seconds before looking up at the ceiling.

  REZEKAH

It occurs to Zex that it could have played the part of the host when this two-legged inquired of her.

They shrug and turn back toward the kitchen.

  REZEKAH

No matter. It is time Zex plans its escape.
