*Carlisle's POV
Elizabeth's heartbeat was still strong, it would be probably a few more hours before she awakened. We could hear Edward argue with Alice, just outside of the house. Since he learned that Jasper was allowed to come to Elizabeth, he demanded to see her too. I was growing angry, still not completely convinced that Jasper was the one telling the truth. But recalling how Elizabeth's face noticeably rexed once Jasper came to her side and the fact she stayed more or less rexed even after he left for a while again, didn't speak in Edward's favor.
"I'll stay with her... if you finally trust me enough, that is." Spoke up Jasper quietly. Do I? He didn't really give me any reason to doubt him. Nothing truly spoke against him, except for Edward. Which was easily supported by the fact that Jasper had a harder time around human blood than the rest of us. Could have Edward knowingly used that to deceive me?
The next moment I was outside next to Alice, who was standing in Edward's way. Rosalie kept in the background while Emmett looked like he wasn't sure what to do. "Carlisle, let me go to Beth." Demanded Edward.
"No." I stated simply. But he wouldn't leave it.
"Why do you let Jasper see her and I can't? She's mine!" Yelled Edward, making me growl.
"She never was and will not be yours!" I was pissed at the thought that he might have knowingly tried to take my mate from me.
"Beth is my mate and I'm going to her!" That set me off and I unched at him. He avoided my fist and tried to pass me but Alice saw his decision and blocked him. Emmett seemed to have decided and grabbed Edward to prevent him from another attempt.
I registered a movement behind me and saw Elizabeth disappear between the trees. She's already awake and I wasn't there for her! I thought with regret and wanted to follow her. However, Alice stopped me. At the same time Jasper appeared. "She heard you and just ran."
"Hurry Jazz, you have to stop her before she reaches the town!" Told Alice to Jasper and he was gone.
"What are you doing Alice?!" I growled at her.
"Trust me! Just wait a moment before you follow them. Jasper is the only one who can stop her right now. If anyone else follows her, she'll keep running! You saw the direction she ran and you know what will happen if she gets into the town the way she's now." She warned me.
I froze. Yes, I could imagine what would happen if she ran in between people right after she woke up. She had no idea what happened to her and the chance that she'd start openly attacking humans before even realizing what she's doing, was pretty close to if not hundred percent.
"You know they'll come for her if that happens." Continued Alice. Keeping our existence a secret was the highest w of our world and Volturi would punish anyone who broke it.
"I know." Then I went after them, following the sweet scent of honey through the forest and made sure to slow down once I got closer to not startle her.
*Elizabeth's POV
I knew I was running faster than humanly possible, but somehow there was no blur. I saw crystal clear every tree, branch, straw of grass, even an insect as I passed them. If my heart still had a beat, it would be racing, but it was eerily quiet. I felt that I didn't really need to fill my lungs with air either. But I did. Out of habit or a muscle memory, I didn't know. "Ell, stop!"
I heard someone following me and was scared that Edward was after me again but then I realized that even though his voice sounded slightly different, it was Jasper behind me and I stopped. When I turned to look at him, I gasped. How did I not notice them before? Curious, I stepped to him. Too fast. "Woah, easy." He lifted his hands up as in surrender. As if telling me that he's not going to hurt me.
For some reason I found it extremely funny. "Hahaha, what are you doing?" Somehow it was hard to stop ughing until he helped me to settle down again." I just wanted to see your scars. I didn't see them before. Did you always have them?" He had his sleeves rolled up and his forearms were littered with scars. I could see them also along his neck and they continued under his sweatshirt. "What are those?" I asked, curiously tracing one on his arm with my finger. Strangely, his skin seemed to have the same temperature as mine now and his scent reminded me of fresh hay.
"Bites." He said, taking my left hand in his, turning it palm up. "Just like yours. But mine are from battles, ages ago." I looked at my wrist. Edward bit me! "I know, Ell. I'm sorry I didn't stop him in time. I didn't think he would do something like this." Apologized Jasper. I blinked, slightly confused and decided to test my theory. You can hear me even now? A surprise crossed his face before a familiar smirk settled on his lips. "Yeah. Even though you're quite calm. Seems you're starting to get the hang of it."
I smiled, happy. Then I realized something. "Am I dead? How am I moving? My heart stopped beating... Also, how am I moving so fast...?" I had so many questions without any logical answer which made me anxious.
Jasper's smirk disappeared and I felt that he was trying to keep me calm. "Ell, I need you to listen now. It's important that you don't run anymore or you'll put yourself and our family in danger. Our family... are vampires. And when Edward bit you, you became a vampire too." He expined slowly.
"Vampires? Are you kidding me?" But he kept cautiously watching my reaction, apparently hoping I wouldn't freak out. Jasper meant it. "Really?! Was I not enough of a freak already?! So now what? I'm also a blood sucking monster?!" I screamed at him. I wanted to cry but no tears were coming.
"Ouch." He made a face.
"Oh I..." If what he said is true, he was a vampire himself. "I didn't mean..." I didn't think Jasper was a monster. I wasn't sure what to say but his usual smirk returned to his lips.
"No worries. I told you that you're not a freak Ell." He tried to reassure me while attempting to calm me down. Just then, I heard a crunch of pines as someone was coming closer. My instincts took over and I attacked them. Nobody would sneak up on me. "Ell, don't!" Called Jasper behind me.
Growling, I jumped at the person. They caught my hands but my momentum caused them to fall back and they ended up on the ground with me sitting on top of them. "Elizabeth..." Said the person as we fell and I stiffened. That voice... Sure enough, there he was in all of his handsome glory. Right underneath me. Even more breathtaking than in the painting.
"Ca-Dr. Cullen?!" I got out of myself, shocked at what I did.
Letting go of my hands he smiled and reached up to caress my cheek with one hand while he rested the other one on my thigh. "Why don't you call me by my name, love?" I took an unneeded sharp breath as his touch along with his smooth deep voice caused a pleasurable shiver run down my spine. Hit with an indescribably tempting scent, I closed my eyes and leaned down to its source, inhaling again.
His scent reminded me of the ocean on a sunny day. Calm yet powerful. "Carlisle..." I found myself purring as I took another deep breath, rubbing my cheek against his neck. I heard his quiet chuckle and then someone beside us cleared their throat. Oh god, Jasper! I completely forgot he was there. What the hell am I doing?! Standing up, I quickly got off Carlisle. I knew I'd blush profusely if I could, but my cheeks didn't feel hot.
He stood up too but caught my waist and pulled me back to him. "I already let you go once. I'm not letting you run away from me again." Stated Carlisle as he cupped my head and his lips found mine. Since I stopped burning, nobody felt cold anymore. In fact I didn't feel any cold whatsoever. But when Carlisle's lips gently slid across mine, I felt heat rise deep within me and I pressed myself to his strong body as I put my arms around his neck, kissing him back. "Mine..." I heard Carlisle's thought while his hold on me tightened.
When I heard Edward say the same thing, it made me angry. Hearing Carlisle, though, caused another content purr to vibrate in my throat. Jasper coughed again. "Carlisle, we're too close to the town and Ell should hunt." To my disappointment, Carlisle ended the kiss and slightly pulled from me. Go away. Disappointed, I sent Jasper a thought. It made him ugh. "Sorry Ell, but you have to be patient for a little bit." Patient? Are you sure you're talking to me? I gave him a look. "Right." He returned with a smirk, folding his arms.
"Can you two not leave me out of the conversation, please?" Said Carlisle above my head with a hint of annoyance. He may have pulled away from the kiss but he did not completely let go of me. I got used to talking with Jasper inside my head and I just did it without thinking, right in front of Carlisle.
Suddenly anxious, not wanting to see him look at me the way so many people before him, I closed my eyes and refused to face him. Part of me expected him to push me away and another part wanted to spare myself the pain and just run again before he could do it. "Ell-" Started Jasper, sensing my distress.
"It's alright, Ellie..." I heard Carlisle's soothing voice, feeling as if he caressed my soul. Ellie...? I was called a lot of things and heard so many versions of my name throughout the years but nobody ever called me Ellie before. It sounded so beautiful from Carlisle's lips.
"Look at me, love." He cooed and I reluctantly turned my face towards him. I was still scared to meet his eyes and kept staring at his broad chest in front of me, not despising my small height for once. "Don't worry. You don't need to hide it. I know about your special way of communication with Jasper." He said and my head snapped up. He was smiling down at me with such a loving expression, it made my chest feel tight. "I just can't help feeling being left out a little, over here..." Admitted Carlisle and gently touched my cheek.
"I'm sorry." I attempted to return his smile, suddenly guilty that I caused him to feel that way. I was almost sad. Confused, I looked over to Jasper. "Jay umm... are you doing something? My emotions seem to be... wilder than normal."
"You can say that again." He chuckled. "But no, this is your 'normal' for now. As a newborn vampire, it's harder for you to control your emotions and all of them are way stronger. At least for a while, you will be mostly controlled by your instincts." Expined Jasper while I felt Carlisle's thumb lightly rub my side, He had one of his hands rested on my hip and even though it seemed like a soothing gesture, the sensation made me want to tackle him to the ground again and I bit my lip. "Carlisle... not helping." Turned slightly frustrated Jasper to him.
"Hmm?" Carlisle looked curiously down at me. I couldn't think about anything else than his smooth lips and how they felt on mine while his eyes searched my face. Jay, a little help...? I kept biting down on my lip, trying hard to resist my urges. I still had a million questions but for the world, I could not concentrate this close to Carlisle. However, I didn't seem to be able to make myself step away from his strong body, gentle hands and arms that gave me the feeling of safety as I gazed back into those warm golden eyes.
I heard Jasper give a sigh and then I felt his hand on my shoulder, slowly pulling me from Carlisle. "You're... distracting her too much." Said Jasper when Carlisle frowned at him. Embarrassed that Jasper could feel it all, I looked down and hoped that he wouldn't go on expining how exactly I was distracted.
Once there was a bit of distance between me and Carlisle, I recalled something that bothered me when Jasper mentioned it. "You said I need to hunt... but I don't want to hurt anyone. I don't want to make anyone go through the same pain I did." I grimaced, recalling the fire traveling through my veins.
"That's alright, Ellie. You won't." Spoke up Carlisle softly. "We don't hunt humans."
I frowned. Wasn't I proof that they do? "But Edward drank my-" Carlisle's low growl made me crouch, expecting some kind of danger to approach us.
"I'm sorry..." He moved to gently hug me and then stepped back. "I didn't mean to scare you." He apologized and I rexed again. "Can you tell me what you remember?" Carlisle seemed tense and I saw his jaw tighten as I told him how Edward attacked me.
The memory of Edward drinking my blood made me scared and angry at the same time but it also caused my throat to feel dry. Thinking about blood made me so thirsty it hurt. "We need to move further away from the town. Now." Said Jasper, exchanging a look with Carlisle.
"Follow me." Told me Carlisle and started running. I ran after him and Jasper ran beside me. I was getting used to the speed. I felt that I could go even faster and looked at Jasper next to me in challenge, lifting my eyebrow. Race?
"Not a good idea, Ell..." But I was already ahead of him. When I turned to stick my tongue out at him seeing that he couldn't catch up, a strong arm went around my waist in an attempt to stop me. I didn't expect it and when I tried to pull away, we went tumbling down a steep hill.
When we finally stopped rolling, I found myself once more on top of Carlisle. He had a slightly concerned look on his face and his arms were tightly wrapped around my body, pressing me to him. I realized that he was worried about me. "Sorry..." I mumbled, feeling guilty. His scent was surrounding me with how close we were and I happily breathed it in. "You smell like the sea and sunshine..." I whispered, leaning down to his neck, taking deep breaths.
I couldn't help myself and traced his neck with my lips. When I heard him groan with pleasure, I had a sudden urge to sink my teeth into the crook of his neck. "Why do I...?" Confused, I pced a kiss there.
"Go on, love..." Encouraged me Carlisle's deep husky voice when my fangs touched his skin. Just then I heard a loud thumping of a heartbeat. My throat burned at the sound of pumping blood and I lifted my head, searching for its source.
