*Carlisle's POV
Today was Edward's mate Elizabeth coming to our house to live with us. I felt strangely excited to meet the girl. The way Alice and Jasper spoke of her, made me extremely curious about her and I found myself looking forward to meeting her personally. Unfortunately, there was a car crash with heavy injury and I've been stuck in surgery for long hours past what time I normally end my shift.
When I arrived home, Alice came to greet me with a mysterious smile on her face. "Alice?"
"Carlisle. Everyone just left to hunt and Elizabeth is sleeping in her room. The two of us can go hunt in the morning." She informed me.
"Jasper went without you?" It puzzled me that they wanted to go hunt separately, they always went together.
"Elizabeth might need him when she wakes up so I sent him with the others tonight." Said Alice.
"She might need Jasper? Is something going to happen?" I asked, worried and surprised at her statement. What could require Jasper's presence and why would Edward's mate need him?
"I told you they would be best friends." Alice fshed a bright smile at me. "It already happened. You'll learn why, soon enough." Of course she wouldn't tell me any details. So I went on to my room. Inside the house I caught a new scent. I expected it, since we had a new addition to the family but I didn't expect my reaction to it. It smelled like honey. It was sweet, intriguing and I longed to follow it.
Recalling what Alice said about the girl if we didn't help her, painfully tagged at my heart and I wondered why I was so influenced by someone I have yet to meet. We usually have lights on throughout the night. Even though we don't really need them. Tonight the house was shrouded in darkness to not awaken suspicion in our new inhabitant until it was time for her to learn of our secret.
With everyone outside, it was quiet. So quiet that I could hear her calm, regur heartbeat as she slept. Then I frowned, confused at how close it was. I realized, it was coming from the room next to mine. That knowledge left me somewhat restless. It didn't help when, not long afterwards, I heard her movements. She obviously woke up and for some reason went to the other side of the house.
Hearing running water, I wondered why she went all the way to the kitchen to get a drink. Listening to her light footsteps as they were coming back, my restlessness and excitement grew with each step she was coming closer to my room. I heard her footsteps reach my door and expected them to continue past it to hers, when unexpectedly, she opened my door and quietly walked in and closed the door behind herself.
I stood there, stunned with surprise. Not only by her coming into my room. I was astonished by what I saw before me. It was obviously too dark for her eyes, she didn't see me standing here. But I could clearly see the crimson mane of her slightly disheveled long wavy hair around her lovely face with full lips and mesmerizing copper eyes, that seemed to almost shine.
She was wearing a silky looking nightgown that was long enough to just barely reach her thighs. Her legs with bare feet seemed to go on forever and I wanted to explore their length with my fingers. Why do I...? I also wondered how to let the girl know of my presence without scaring her, when she tripped over my work suitcase.
Without a second thought I moved to keep her from falling. My whole body sighed as if it was waiting just for her touch and her sweet scent of honey hit me like a tidal wave. Suddenly all around me. She gasped when I caught her in my arms. "Oh no, I got the wrong door!" She excimed quietly.
"You must be Elizabeth..." I tried to stay calm and keep my voice soothing when I heard her rapid heartbeat. She must be startled at the sudden contact when she thought she's in her own room. Crossed my mind, hearing her breathing hitch but then she breathed out my name, looking up at me. I found it nearly impossible to not lean down and cim those full lips, hearing my name on them.
"I-I'm... sorry Dr. Cullen. I-I didn't mean to barge into your room." She suddenly stuttered as if to correct herself and to my regret, she pulled away from me. Reluctantly letting go of her, I watched as she took a hesitant step back before she turned and ran from my room. I fought the urge to go after her. Resting my hands on my door she just ran out of, I listened to the loud bang of her own door and her rapid heartbeat, which took a long time to calm down before she once more fell asleep.
I wished I could fall asleep too. I didn't know how to settle myself down. Why am I reacting to her this way? She's Edward's mate! I groaned, knowing how hard it's going to be to control my thoughts of her around him. But soon I'd learn that I had actually no idea at the time...
When morning came and Elizabeth went to the kitchen for breakfast, others were already back and Edward was waiting for her. I stood by our library and watched as she lightly stretched while she walked. She reached her hands high up, which pulled up her top, revealing her slim waist I felt st night. I couldn't take my eyes away but when Edward put his arm around her exposed waist, pulling her to his side I had to run out of the house to hide the growl that built up at the back of my throat to not bring Edward's attention to my thoughts.
I had to talk with Alice. As if I had called for her already, she appeared next to me and then set off in a sign for me to follow her.
*Elizabeth's POV
I couldn't stop thinking about Carlisle. I needed to properly apologize for coming into his room st night. He might have gotten the wrong idea and I didn't want that. The idea of him thinking less of me bothered me more than it probably should. When I came into the kitchen in the morning and Edward embraced me, it didn't feel right and I pulled away.
I've made a mistake, encouraging him when I thought we wouldn't see each other anymore. I was also cursing myself for kissing him back in the heat of the moment yesterday. If anything, it made things more complicated. We needed to have a talk. But out of nowhere he kissed me and left before I could say anything.
After breakfast I wanted to find him to talk but the moment I left kitchen I came across Rosalie. "I'd enjoy your stay here while you can if I were you." She said with a disdainful look on her face. "It's just a matter of time before you end up like the first one. Bel. Care to guess where she's staying now? Cemetery." She spat out the name as if it was a curse. However, the name was familiar. Rosalie seemed to have said what she wanted and was gone while I stood there trying to comprehend her words.
Then I remembered where I heard the name before and a cold shiver ran down my spine. Edward called me Bel when I bumped into him on my first day...and he wouldn't leave me since. He didn't spend time with me, for me at all...Did she say cemetery?!
The realization shook me. When I walked out of the house, Edward was just returning, so I confronted him. I was slowly losing it, feeling my anger grow as he was trying to dodge my questions. I tried to call for Jasper in my mind. I never tried to do it intentionally or really control it but with how angry I was, he should have heard me if he was close by.
I knew it worked when I felt calm wash over me and a cool hand on my shoulder. I was so grateful to and for him. Then all of a sudden Edward moved faster than was humanly possible. I didn't even see him do it but I knew he hurt me when I felt pain on my arm. Before I could fully register the first pain, another came from my wrist. I saw Edward biting into it and then I could only scream when Jasper pulled him away, feeling fire travel through my veins from where he bit me.
Then Edward was gone, but so was Jasper and I hit the ground, unable to stand the pain spreading through my body. Once the burning spread all the way from my left wrist where he bit me to the fingertips of my right hand and down to my toes, it became a steady burning. I felt as if my whole body was on fire.
Since the pain stopped traveling and was steady, I was able to somewhat regard my surroundings again. I was scared that Edward would come back to hurt me more. If that was even possible. Jasper!...Help me! I was scared for Jasper. What if Edward did something to him too? ...Please be safe!
*
"Please be alive!" I didn't know how long I was burning for when I heard a desperate but dreamy voice and a beautiful face of the man from painting appeared above me. "It spread too far... There's no way back for her." He said with a painful expression. But I couldn't feel sad. If I was dying with him being the st thing I'd see, I was going to die happy. "What happened here? Who bit her?!" His pain was repced by anger. I wanted to tell him it was Edward but the fire wouldn't let me speak and he disappeared from my field of vision. My eyes wouldn't stay open.
"She fell and started bleeding. Then Jasper attacked her." I heard Edward's voice nearby and my anger burned as fiercely as the fire in my veins. Leave Jasper alone! I thought desperately. Then I saw Carlisle again. Over the fire, I barely noticed his cold hands on my body as he picked me up and carried me somewhere while the fire slowly but surely intensified and I couldn't focus on anything else anymore.
*Edward's POV
Beth looked absolutely yummy as she walked into the kitchen, stretching. She exposed a little bit of skin by doing so and I pulled her warm form to me. I missed watching her sleep st night as I had to go hunt with others. However, she spun out of my arm and away from me. Slightly dissatisfied, I watched her make a sandwich. "Umm... Is your father still sleeping?" She asked out of the blue. Why is she asking about Carlisle?
"No. He and Alice went hiking. They left just a moment ago." I told her. It wasn't a complete lie. I just omitted the part where they'd drink animal blood along the way. "Why?" She might have been just curious about the st member of the family she hasn't met yet, but I didn't have any other way to confirm it than asking her.
"I uhh...I accidentally walked into his room st night." She said, blushing and I almost growled. He wouldn't do anything though, right? Right. It is Carlisle we're talking about after all. "I just wanted to apologize properly." She continued and huffed. "Such a terrible first impression."
I reassuringly smiled as I stepped to her. "You'll learn that Carlisle is very forgiving. Don't worry about it too much." When she lifted her face to look at me I leaned to kiss her before she'd pull away again and then I left her to her breakfast, going on a patrol. We were always cautious about nomad vampires around our residence and took regur patrols to keep an eye out for any possible newcomers to the area so they wouldn't create trouble for us.
Everything was clear so I came back. When I approached the house, Beth came to meet me. "What happened to Bel?" She asked, frowning. "Have fun." I noticed Rosalie wave at me, smiling as she disappeared between the trees. "Sorry." With an apologetic expression, Emmett followed her. "You called me Bel, when we first met. Rosalie just told me that she's dead and that I'll end up the same way! Do I look like her or something? Is that why you got close to me?!"
"No. Don't listen to Rosalie. Nothing will happen to you." I reached my hand to her but she pulled away.
"Stop touching me! Tell me, how did this Bel die?" She demanded. "What's wrong?" Jasper appeared behind her and seemed to have somewhat calmed her. Then he put his hand on her shoulder and she looked at him almost lovingly. "Thank you." Jasper can touch her and I can't?! She's mine!
Then I realized how I could kill two birds with one stone. If I'd turn Beth now, she won't be so weak and helpless but I could use her hazy memory after waking up to help her forget about this incident, keeping her forever. And if I'd make it look like Jasper did it, I'd be the favorite again. As a bonus it might also make Beth hate him. With his trouble adjusting to our diet, it shouldn't be a problem to make others believe it was him no matter what he might say afterwards. There were just the three of us now.
I unched at Beth scratching her arm so she bled to make it more believable. Then I bit into her wrist before Jasper realized what I'm doing and could do anything about it. Like I expected, her blood was as delicious as Bel's and I couldn't pull away. Thankfully, Jasper did that for me. While Beth screamed in pain, he punched me, trying to keep me away from her.
We were fighting for a while. Jasper was pissed off and had an advantage of experience but my ability to see his movements just before he made them helped me to somewhat keep up with him. Suddenly Emmett grabbed me and Alice with Rosalie held onto Jasper to stop us. Carlisle was by Beth. Everyone's thoughts seemed to be in turmoil and it was impossible to concentrate on any of them. "It spread too far... There's no way back for her." Spoke up Carlisle and I bit back a smile. No one else would taste her blood. "What happened here? Who bit her?!" He asked, furious.
That shocked me since he never lost his calm before. "She fell and started bleeding. Then Jasper attacked her." I told him quickly. He turned to Jasper who, now shocked too, was looking at me. Carlisle lifted his fist. Another surprise since he rarely used violence. But then he stopped and turned back to Beth. Confused, I watched as he carefully lifted her off the ground and went to carry her inside the house.
"I don't want anyone near her until she wakes up." Said Carlisle firmly.
"But Carlisle-" I tried to object. I had to be with her when she'd wake up.
He turned to me with a hard look. "I said, no one!" Growled Carlisle. His thoughts were still in a frenzy but all revolved around Beth and her protection and while Emmett still restricted my movements I could only watch as he carried her away.
While editing this I pyed Avenged Sevenfold - Little piece of heaven and had to ugh xD Who knows, knows. Who doesn't, give it a listen, you'll understand. Btw, I love that song.
