Chapter 5.2 – The Price of a Miracle

  If someone could ge the world, would they use it t baething that had been lost?

  Azami Yuki—the male version—stood in the midst of emptiness, surrounded by fragments of shattered reality.

  There was no sky. No ground.

  Only an endless void stretg infinitely, like a bnk sheet of paper waiting to be written on.

  In his hand, he held an unreal pen—a pen that could rewrite the ws of the world.

  *I have t her back.*

  *I have t her back.*

  Azami Yuki—the female version of himself.

  The one who no longer existed in this world.

  He didn’t care how many rules he had to break.

  He didn’t care how much bance he had to destroy.

  He would bring her babsp;

  No matter what it took.

  "Yuki, don’t do this!!!"

  Erika’s voice echoed, filled with uncharacteristic emotion.

  Erika, who was always calm. Erika, who always smirked with mystery.

  Now, the girl stood in the void with a look of genuine fear.

  But she couldn’t move.

  She couldn’t do anything.

  Because just before Azami Yuki begaiy, he had written one new rule:

  > 「Judgment of the world. Interfering with the affairs of an Indepe Wit any form is prohibited.」

  That rule bound Erika pletely.

  Like invisible s log her body in pce, preventing her from doing anything.

  She could only stand there, watg, screaming, and trying to persuade him.

  "Yuki! Yoing to make the same mistake! Yoing to repeat everything again!"

  But Azami Yuki wasn’t listening.

  He stared at the bnk sheet of reality in front of him and began writing.

  > 「Azami Yuki—the alternate version of herself—returns.」

  But…

  Nothing happened.

  Azami Yuki stared at the rule he had just written.

  He waited.

  But there was no ge.

  The world remaiy.

  No one appeared.

  No ourned.

  "What…?"

  For the first time, something within him trembled.

  He tried again.

  > 「Azami Yuki—the female versiourns to this world.」

  Still, nothing happened.

  Azami Yuki’s (male) chest felt tight.

  He rewrote reality once more.

  > 「Bring back Azami Yuki—the female versiht where I stand.」

  But the void remained a void.

  Nothing ged.

  No ourned.

  "…Why?"

  Azami Yuki clutched his hair.

  Why couldn’t it work?

  Why wouldn’t she e babsp;

  Erika, who could only watch from afar, bit her lip.

  Of course, it wouldn’t work.

  That miracle… would never exist.

  But Erika couldn’t say that.

  Because she couldn’t speak except to persuade him to stop.

  She could only watbsp;

  And watch as despair slowly began to eat away at the newly born Indepe Witbsp;

  Azami Yuki didn’t give up.

  He tried rewritiy over and over.

  > 「Bring Azami Yuki—the female version—back to life.」

  「Recreate her existence.」

  「I want to see her again.」

  「I want to talk tain.」

  「I want to see her smile again.」

  But nothing happened.

  No differenbsp;

  As if the world’s rules had rejected that wish.

  Erika bit her lip until it bled.

  Azami Yuki didn’t realize that this was the same despair Azami Yuki (female) had experienced.

  He didn’t realize that this was an endless cycle.

  The more he tried—

  The more he destroyed himself.

  And worse yet…

  He felt nothing about it.

  No tears.

  No anger.

  No explosive frustration.

  Only a deeper emptiness.

  A void that even the Indepe Witch couldn’t fill.

  "AZAMI YUKI! STOP!"

  Erika finally screamed with all her heart.

  The girl’s voice echoed in this empty spabsp;

  "YOU’VE BEE AN INDEPE WITCH! YOU DO ANYTHING! BUT…"

  Azami Yuki didn’t turn around.

  He was still rewriting the world’s rules, over and over.

  "…BUT YOU ’T BRING SOMEONE BACK!"

  His hand stopped.

  For the first time since he begaing the world’s rules, his hand trembled.

  Erika took a deep breath.

  Then she spoke in a softer voibsp;

  "…An Indepe Witch manipute reality. But that doesn’t mean they create something that’s already pletely lost."

  Azami Yuki lowered his head.

  Erika looked at him with a pained gaze.

  "You rewrite the ws of the world, but you ’t create the same soul twice."

  Azami Yuki still didn’t move.

  "…So, stop."

  Erika’s voice began to weaken.

  "Please…"

  There was no response.

  Azami Yuki just stood there, silent.

  His hand gripped the invisible pen tightly.

  And finally, in a voice so soft it was almost inaudible—

  "…Then what’s the point of having this power?"

  Erika closed her eyes.

  What was the point of being an Indepe Witch if he couldn’t even bring bae person?

  There was no answer.

  Only silenbsp;

  And for the first time since being an Indepe Witbsp;

  Azami Yuki felt something.

  Not aion.

  But a void greater than anything.

  The world remained silent.

  And he just stood there, staring at the rule in front of him.

  A rule that he finally realized—

  A rule that would never bring "her" back.
