Chapter 1.3 – The Detective and the Sudden Assistant

M came without warning. I woke up with a heavy head, still trying to e to terms with the fact that I was trapped in a world that wasn’t mine. Sunlight seeped through the gaps in the curtains, illuminating a room that felt fhough it looked just like my oartment.

At the dining table, Azami Yuki—the female version of me—was already seated, dressed ly. A slightly oversized white shirt, bck trousers, and a long coat hanging on the back of her chair. Her hair was half-tied, giving her a professional look that trasted with the zy expression on her face as she sipped her coffee.

I yawned and sat down across from her. "Where do you work?"

She g me briefly, then pulled out a small badge from her pocket and tossed it onto the table.

  "I’m a private detective."

I froze, staring at the badge with a furrowed brow. "A detective?"

She nodded casually. "Yeah. I need moo pay for tuition and living expenses. So I take on freenvestigative work. The police often ask for my help on cases they ’t solve."

A wave of disbelief washed over me. "You’re a student, but also a detective?"

"And a part-time barista at a café near campus."

I almost choked. "Are you serious? How do you mao do all of that at once?"

She just shrugged. "This world isn’t cheap. If I relied solely on schorships, I wouldn’t survive."

I felt a headache ing on. This world was truly much harsher than mine.

Azami looked at me seriously. "By the way, do you want to e with me today?"

  I blinked. "e where?"

She gave a faint smile. "To the crime se. The police asked for my help iigating st night’s murder."

  I fell silent.

"And you wao e along… why?"

She took another sip of her coffee before answering. "You don’t have a pce to stay, do you? No money, no ID, and no purpose. Until we figure out how to send you back to your world, it’s better if you stick with me."

I frowned. "So… I’m going to be your assistant?"

She smirked. "More like you don’t have a choice."

I let out a long sigh. She was right. I had no pce to stay. No money. No idea where to go. Until I found a way bay world, I couldn’t just sit around and do nothing.

I looked at her seriously. "Alright. I’ll e."

Azami Yuki—the female version—smiled in satisfa, then tossed a coat at me.

"The’s go. We’ve got a murder to solve."
