Chapter Forty-Four: A Dark and Windy Night for Murder

Tonight, Ling Mo's mood is great!

He even opened a beer to reward himself, which was still given to him by Liu Yu Hao.

In front of him, however, sat Ye Lian and Xiana, the two mutant female zombies. In Ling Mo's view, Xiana should also be considered a mutant zombie, and seemed to be undergoing some kind of evolution as well. Only she and Ye Lian's evolutionary directions were completely different.

Yue Lian herself has great strength, and in her evolution process, the recovery of reason is very slow, but the physical strength can be clearly seen after each evolution.

But Xiana was different, she herself was a secondary infection, and in the process of mutation, she never completely fell. The virus's continuous absorption not only didn't make her thoroughly become a zombie, but instead made her slowly recover her normal human side. As long as she didn't feel danger or produce strong aggression, Xiana was just like a normal person, except that her brain seemed to be somewhat...not so useful.

On the other hand, when her instincts as a zombie awaken, she will go berserk like a zombie and fight tirelessly.

Although they appear to be two lovely beauties on the outside, only Ling Mo is clear that whether it's Ye Lian or Xianna, they are both terrifying human-shaped killing machines.

Ling Mo's silent wish was to let these two weapons gradually recover their human intelligence, best if they could be just like normal people... Shana's "split" and Ye Lian's subtle changes made Ling Mo's confidence even more unwavering.

It's possible that Shana won't have to face Ye Lian's cold and unfeeling gaze anymore, and occasionally she'll even say a few words; with this outcome, how could Ling Mo not be delighted?

Moreover, his own speed has also been greatly enhanced. Although his strength hasn't increased, having a pair of legs that can run is quite good when facing zombies!

As he sipped his beer, Ling Mo turned around and lifted a corner of the curtain, gazing out the window.

The dark shadows that occasionally appear in the square are actually zombies. Compared to ordinary people, they have a greater advantage at night, so on nights like this, it's basically impossible to see any survivors wandering around the streets.

When those zombies are not attacking, they move slowly and their bodies sway unconsciously. Most of the zombies will not leave this area unless they are attracted by survivors.

But zombies also get hungry. Although their physical consumption is much less than that of ordinary people, they need a lot of food when they eat.

The square is open and there are no supermarkets or places to collect food around, so Ling Mo determined that it has been at least a few days since anyone appeared here, which means they are their prey.

And people like Ling Mo, who have the guts to hide in a two-story building and quietly observe these zombies, are probably not many.

However, Ling Mo didn't suddenly come up with this interest, but rather heard some faint noises. Most importantly, these noises were coming from the store below his building.

A zombie suddenly rushed out from the shop under Ling Mo's eyelids. With the moonlight, Ling Mo vaguely saw her covered in blood.

"Huh, did she eat another one?" This is quite possible, the faint noise just now was very much like a wild dog gnawing on bones!

It's indeed a dark and windy night for murder! Not making a move during the day, but instead waiting until midnight when the light is poor...

This was the first time Ling Mo had seen ordinary zombies suddenly attack their own kind. He had only seen them eat the corpses of their own kind before, but he had never seen them take the first step towards mutation - attacking their own kind!

Ling Mo's interest was piqued, and he stared intently at the middle-aged female zombie who had rushed out of the store, wondering what she would do next.

After resolving her fellow zombies around her, she rushed straight towards the nearest zombie on the square.

The zombie didn't seem to be hungry enough to attack its own kind yet, so it was completely unguarded and didn't even struggle before the female zombie twisted off its head. She then buried her face in the head and started devouring it wildly, but Ling Mo was too far away to see if she had scooped out the other zombie's brains to eat.

Watching zombies eat human flesh... even if the object being eaten was also a zombie, it still made Ling Mo feel somewhat creeped out. Although there were two mutated zombies beside him, neither of them had this bloody eating habit...

These zombies, to put it bluntly, are just living people infected with a virus, and are different from those undead creatures that come back to life in the movies. However, since they attack living humans and also eat them, I reckon no one considers them human anymore.

There weren't many zombies on the square to begin with, and most of them were concentrated on the other side, relatively far from where Ling Mo was. But this middle-aged female zombie's movements immediately attracted these zombies.

A dozen or so agile figures rushed over quickly. If it weren't for seeing it with my own eyes, who would believe that just a second ago they were still swaying slowly?

These zombies didn't come to attack the middle-aged female zombie, but to feed. The bodies of their own kind are no different from those of living people for them. When a large number of zombies move in one direction at the same time, there are also cases where some zombies are unintentionally torn into pieces by other zombies, or collide with obstacles and get injured, then attract attention and be devoured.

It's not easy being an undead either...... Ling Mo suddenly thought.

But the overwhelming numerical advantage is what matters most. Even if there are zombie deaths every day, so what? The number of survivors decreases much faster than that of zombies!

When she saw other zombies coming to grab food, the middle-aged female zombie showed an extremely fierce side again. She rushed towards the nearest zombie at the first time, but what surprised Ling Mo was that she encountered resistance this time!

This zombie was also estimated to have reached the edge of violent outbreak, originally letting him eat something could make him continue to slowly wander around honestly, but the middle-aged female zombie attacked him first.

The bloody smell stimulated him, and the intense hunger that was stirred up made this small-sized zombie go crazy all of a sudden.

The ordinary zombies' melee fight was something Ling Mo saw for the first time, and he widened his eyes, afraid of missing any details.

While the two of them were tangled together, a dozen or so other zombies had already devoured the corpse clean. Their speed of consumption was truly terrifying...

However, it was clear that one corpse was not enough to eat, and at this time the two zombies that were fighting like beasts had both been decorated with colors.

Even Ling Mo, who was watching from a distance, sensed that when the zombies shifted their attention to them, it was likely that a fierce battle would erupt in this square...

Compared to ordinary people, zombies have superior speed, physical strength and power. Especially their crazy attacks that disregard their own lives, it's estimated that normal people would be terrified upon seeing them.

As long as there is still a breath left, these zombies will not retreat, and the battles between them are more like beasts killing each other.

That middle-aged female zombie was probably the one that ate the most, so her performance was the craziest. Ling Mo personally saw her grab a zombie's arm in the chaos and then violently tore it off.

This power is really too terrifying, a single zombie can hardly do this, which is also why zombies generally use their mouths to bite. Their biting force is even stronger than the strength of their hands.

For a time, the square was filled with flying flesh and blood, the throats of the zombies emitted low, mournful howls, the bloody scene making one feel nauseous at a single glance.

Ling Mo was interested in the zombies' variation and evolution, but he only persisted for a while before losing interest. Just as he turned his head around, he found that Xiang Nan had stood up at some point and was staring blankly out of the window.

What impact would this scene have on Xiana, who still had some sanity left? Ling Mo wondered curiously.
