Mikumbi and the War God Incarnate - A 3rd snippet from a short story

With a flash of my aura from my hand, I command my icicles to attack. His evasive display is incredible. Like a panther, cheetah and an eagle combined as he runs, twists, turns and dives out of the way of my icicles. How someone his size can be so dexterous is... Well, he is a Wagadu.

And just to show off, he swats some of the icicles away like they were annoying flies. Arsehole.

“Simba,” I boom as I run at him.

Within a yellowy-green flash, my musculature and mass grow, golden brown fur covers my body and a beautiful dark brown mane covers the back of my head and neck. My hands and feet become instruments of death. My facial features turn feline, my jaw grows more robust and my canine teeth become large fangs.

I let loose a mighty roar as I pounce on the stranger. He holds me back with his spear shaft, as I gnash my teeth inches away from his face. Even with my increased size and strength, this bastard still manages to hold me off.

“Having fun now?” I ask, speaking completely like a normal human while in a lion's body. Gotta love sorcery.

“A little,” he replies then he somehow manages to throw me off him (the bastard made it look easy as well). “Show me more.”

“Kifaru,” I boom while charging at him.

This time I lose the golden fur, mane, claws and fangs and replace them with thick grey skin, a longer body with larger bones and musculature, a much longer face with two large horns protruding from it. Let's see how he handles my charge.

The earth slightly rumbles as I charge. At least he isn't foolish enough to test his incredible strength against a rhino. Instead, he once again displays his agility by flipping over my horns. I let out a small scream as he stabs his spear into my... arse. To be fair a rhino's arse is a big target. Thank Khonvoum for the kifaru's thick skin.

“Bigger enemy, bigger target,” the stranger laughs.

I give it one final go. I lower my head then charge.

  Stolen novel; please report.

He just stands there with a calm smirk on his annoying face. Who cares that a three ton animal is charging at you?

He thinks he's gonna somersault over me again... wrong.

The look on his face as I 'disappear' in front of his very eyes. Priceless.

“What the f--, Where did you go?” shouts the warrior. His head moves like a bird as he looks around for me, standing in the same spot. By the look on his face, it was probably one of the few times in his whole life that he's ever been shocked. Not truly afraid but certainly tense.

I can't help enjoying myself. Looking up at him from the wet grass... as an ant.

I timed my charge and distance to near perfection as I transformed into an ant. Of course, I have to be careful of the rain and dew from the grass. He's probably always looked down on many people he's encountered, figuratively.

“Show yourself, coward,” the boy shouts with a tense look on his face. “Fight like a true warrior.”

If only he looked down right now to see me, as an ant. A damn cute one. He would see me transform back to normal and he might have avoided my uppercut to his jaw.

  Got 'em.

He hits the ground, hard. However, knowing my luck and his tenacity, that bastard would only get up and start again. Well, not this time.

  “Restrain,” I boom.

The wet earth around the stranger flashes yellowy-green. The very ground itself wraps and coils around his arms and legs like a python.

“What in the name of Ogun?” He says with wide-eyed shock.

“It's over. There's no use in struggling.”

“Do you really think you've stopped me?” the stranger says while grimacing.

“Yep. I've used this spell many times to subdue larger and more powerful creatures.”

I gently wave my glowing hand, commanding the wet earth to wrap around the stranger's mouth. Silence is bliss.

“You're good. Very good. Better than your father. In fact, if you were around when the Earth demon king and his army of lava demons were running amok, I wouldn't have needed any other warrior to aid me. I would've just given you some enchanted weapons and armour then 'unleash' you upon them.”

It looks like the stranger has finally resolved himself to defeat. He ceases his futile struggle. Finally, I can get out of the rain. I hate it when my nice clothes get wet. However, I won't take any chances. Time to send this overgrown child home.
