Chapter 1: New Identity, New Memories, New Life

  ♂?,,

In the year 2011, on a certain night in a city, the weather was so stifling that it was hard to breathe. Suddenly, a flash of lightning illuminated the sky, and a mysterious fire snake tore through the darkness, casting an eerie white glow on Zhou Runhuas uncertain face.

My girlfriend, Zixuan, just stormed out because he actually wanted to quit his job and become a web writer. Pursuing dreams is good, but life and reality are cruel, for a girl who yearns for a stable life after marriage, that kind of work is not very reliable, let alone Zixuans parents do not agree with their marriage.

Zhou Runhua barely passed the entrance exam to a little-known agricultural university, and after graduation, his parents asked relatives and friends for help, plus some money, and he finally got into the county agricultural bureau and was assigned to work at the agricultural technology extension station. Its a decent career, although the allowance is not much, only available when going to rural areas, but the salary is not in arrears, and during holidays and festivals, they can still get some benefits, which is better than nothing, and his girlfriend and family think that with this job, he can muddle through for a lifetime.

But Zhou Runhua was depressed, he really didnt want to waste his life in a very idle unit, and even more hated the infighting and backstabbing. For a long time, he browsed through a large number of websites, which also led to a decision that made his girlfriend angry. Sighing deeply, Zhou Runhua opened his computer and flipped through the materials he had spent a long time collecting, all of which were about historical military data.

The mouse kept clicking, Zhou Runhua looked and thought, his heart repeatedly struggling. Time passed minute by minute, Zhou Runhua gradually became immersed in the world of his own thoughts, and even the lightning and thunder outside couldnt distract him.

Another flash of lightning, longer and brighter, Zhou Runhua suddenly found that his hand touching the mouse couldnt move, his body was also unable to move like being electrocuted. The computer screen suddenly went black, emitting wisps of smoke. He only felt a massive amount of information surging into his brain from his arm, almost bursting his head, wave after wave of dizziness made him nearly fall over.

A terrifying, deafening thunderclap suddenly burst forth, and it was impossible to distinguish whether it was the sound of thunder or the explosion of a computer. Zhou Runhuas miserable cry was covered up, and then his consciousness disappeared...

  ………

In December 1936, on a dusk when the sun was about to set, the earth and trees were all dyed with golden color. Meng You Tian was climbing up the mountain with his stick, this was an unnamed small hill, the thick or thin snow on the ground made him very laborious, and his broken leg made it even harder for him to take a step.

His face was haggard, his head and face still swollen, the blood from his wounds either congealed or frozen. His gaze cast around him was dull and bewildered. In his eyes, the surrounding landscape was just a desolate winter wilderness, bleak and devoid of any vitality.

Meng You Tians mind was in a state of confusion, which had been the case since he fell into the deep valley and woke up from his coma. A feeling of extreme disorientation made his thoughts sink into bewilderment and chaos. When looking at his reflection on the ice or in a puddle, it seemed both familiar and strange, as if his consciousness had drifted away from his body, gazing at himself from outside.

Who am I? Meng You Tian, Zhou Run Hua, or the computer? Three incomplete consciousnesses are colliding, stirring and intersecting in the poor seventeen-year-old boy Meng You Tians mind... making him feel like he is in a chaotic dream.

In the distance, there were howls of wild beasts. Meng You Tian was exhausted and his head ached so much that he almost fainted. Fortunately, he found two empty shacks on the mountain slope, stumbled in, and fell onto a pile of grass on the ground, losing consciousness.

"...In the 24th year of the Republic... If I could live again, I would never betray Xi Xiangs feelings, that is my greatest regret in this life... Still owe money, have to pawn everything to pay off debts, otherwise the house and land will be taken away by Li the landlord..."

Chaotic and fragmented consciousness collided and merged in Meng Yous mind, like countless steel needles were being stabbed into his skull and frantically stirring his brain pulp, causing unbearable agony. This was the most heinous torture on earth, yet he could only endure it, groaning and twisting, curled up into a pitiful ball, shivering with cold in the dilapidated hut. But it wasnt the cold that he felt; rather, it was an intense heat emanating from within, growing stronger by the minute, as if his internal organs were being incinerated...

The sun had set, and with the last wisps of evening clouds, a woman appeared on the mountain road, no, there were two people. The woman was leaning on a stick, with a drowsy little girl on her back. Chen Axiu panted, stopping in her tracks, she was really exhausted, and it was almost dark, she heard the howling of wild beasts in the mountains, and she was also very scared. Not far away, the small black hut caught her eye, hesitating for a moment, looking at the dark forest again, she seemed to have no choice.

The hut was empty, Chen Axiu used her foot to sweep the grass on the ground, and gently put down her sister. Ah Qiaos eyelids moved slightly, making a few murmurs. She should start a fire, first to warm up, second to drive away wild beasts. Axiu opened a small package, covered a broken dress over Xiao Hans body, walked out, and headed towards another hut.

Meng You Tian heard what seemed to be a faint sound of footsteps, whether it was a dream or reality, he couldnt tell. The splitting headache had just slightly alleviated. Suddenly, the front brightened up, and Meng You Tian slowly opened his eyes. A woman holding a matchstick stood under the flickering light and shadow.

Ashengs mouth was agape, standing there in a daze. She stared intently at Meng You Tian, who also furrowed his brow and gazed back at her. Meng You Tian couldnt tell whether this was a dream or reality, his muddled mind having lost all discernment. The womans face transformed into Zhi Xiangs appearance before his eyes, smiling sweetly at him.

"Zi Xuan"s chest heaved violently, and her mouth opened wide. Just as Ah Xiu was about to shout out loud, Meng You Tian called out her name and suddenly jumped up to hug her tightly. Ah Xiu struggled desperately in Meng You Tians arms, like a wild horse that refused to be tamed. She kicked with her feet, elbowed with her arm, and even tried to throw Meng You Tian off her back.

"Zi Xuan, Zi Xuan... dont leave me, dont..." Meng You Tians mind had been completely replaced by Zhou Run Huas consciousness due to Ah Xius appearance. In the midst of confusion, chaos and intense pain, he needed comfort and solace, just like a drowning person clinging to a life-saving straw for dear life.

When Ah Xiu was kicking and struggling, Meng You Tians hand grasped her chest. In his blurred consciousness, he didnt consciously grab it, but his hand somehow reached there. He had completely lost the ability to think, with only one thought in his mind: tightly embracing his "Zi Xuan", never letting her disappear from his sight again.

Asheng bit her teeth, she didnt cry out in fear that her sister would wake up and run over, only to suffer the same fate at the hands of this madman. She struggled with all her might, trying to scratch Meng You Tians face with her hands, but they were pinned down. So she used her feet to kick and her mouth to bite wildly everywhere. But this madman seemed to be impervious to pain, calling out strange names nonstop as he hugged her tightly. Her strength was gradually fading away, having walked all day without food or water, she felt that she couldnt escape her fate.

The last resistance, also the helpless resistance, Axiu exerted herself to twist her body, with her back facing Meng You Tian, and buried her face deep in the grass heap. Meng You Tians two hands tightly clasped around her, his mouthful of hot air sprayed onto her earlobe.

After a while, Ah Xiu felt that the madmans arm relaxed slightly, and she couldnt help but move. In response, he tightened his grip again, along with a call of "Zhī Xuān, dont leave me".

This was indeed a madman, although he had thinned himself out, there were no other movements. Ah Xiu made a judgment and gradually had an idea.

"I, I wont leave." Ah Xiu spoke in a low voice, Meng You Tian responded with a hum in his daze. After exhaling a long breath softly, Ah Xiu continued: "Relax a bit, okay? I, Im not hungry, not thirsty?"

Meng You Tian fell silent, then subconsciously said: "Water, Im thirsty, drink water."

"Okay, drink some water." Ah Xiu carefully made her way out the door and coaxed, "Let go of my hand, Ill go get you some water to drink."

Meng You Tian seemed to hesitate for a moment, then let go of his hand, and another severe headache struck again. He groaned and wrapped his hands around his head, twisting his body into a ball.

Axiu scrambled out of the den, stumbled and ran back, just wanting to wake up her little sister to leave this troubled place together. A wolfs howl made her hand stop in mid-air. Wolf, there is a wolf, not far away! Axiu crawled a few steps in fright, looking out through the broken hole in the den. In the forest, it seemed like a black shadow flashed by, two gloomy green lights shot over, making her shiver, and then another howl came. Oh no! The wolf is less than 50 meters away in the forest.

  ……………

The thatched roof of the hut was messy, with straw scattered all over it. The wind blew through, making a rustling sound. Meng You Tian was having some strange and disjointed dreams, but his bodys fever slowly subsided, and the intense pain in his head gradually eased. Zhou Run Huas fragmented consciousness merged with his thoughts, and as for the information from the supercomputer, it was slowly absorbed by his merged mind. Now, he was both Meng You Tian and Zhou Run Hua, a hybrid being combining two sets of memories and thoughts.

Axiu was dozing off when her head suddenly bumped against the wall of the den, and she immediately woke up with a start. She felt the wind whistling past her ears, and her limbs were numb from the cold. The small fire outside the den had burned down to just a few embers, and two wolves were prowling around, closing in on her. In a panic, Axiu grabbed a few branches that she had torn off from the den and threw them onto the fire, but instead of igniting, the flames only flickered weakly and then died down even further. The two wolves jumped back slightly, letting out low growls, before creeping forward again.

"Xī Yuán..." Meng Yǒu Tián unconsciously called out in a low voice in his dream, slowly opening his eyes. Yes, it was the womans shout, anxious and angry, with the faint sound of a little girl crying and the roar of a beast mixed in.

He sprang up from the heap of grass, rubbed his eyes hard, shook his head to clear it, and reached out to grab **, gritting his teeth against the pain in his legs as he scrambled to his feet and hobbled away.
