Orion opened his eyes, back to reality.
"Was that an ample answer you have received?"
"..."
His gaze drifting up, he looked at the figure of Nature.
From one glance, time seemed to have stopped while he was in the deepest part of his soul.
Giving a firm nod, he answered.
"Yes. I obtained more than I should have."
He clenched his left fist in front of his chest multiple times as something awakened deep inside his core.
*Click*
A strange noise echoed into his ears, and, unknown to him, could also be heard by Amelia.
The very last section of the 'Shackles' unlocked.
A spreading heat increasingly grew powerful inside Orion's body, circulating from the tip of his fingers to his feet.
Unsurprised, the figure watching him smiled.
"So this is it... You've finally awakened the last of your abilities."
Slightly bewildered, Orion could feel everything fall into place.
"The various 'Gears'... The 'Overdrive'..."
Two of his most helpful abilities since the beginning of his story.
"They're even more powerful."
"This is..."
He nodded to himself.
Crouching, Orion prepared to jump in his normal state.
"All-in-one."
Pushing on his legs, he sprung upward with uncomprehensible speed, leaving a shockwave behind him as he did.
As he stopped a kilometer into the air, he observed the world below him.
"..."
The horizon of his realm showed the many islands that had formed in the sea.
He could see everything that was under him with precision thanks to 'Eagle Eye', even the movements of the fairies in their village.
Bracing himself, Orion pulled his left arm back behind his back. After clenching his hand into a fist, he abruptly punched the air in front of him.
The shockwave created by his first rippled through the air, ripping clouds to shreds in a straight line.
It rippled all around the realm before returning to him, pushing his white hair slightly to the side.
At that point, Orion began to descend toward the ground. Like a meteor, he fell toward the place he had previously left and, at the very last moment, opened his wings and stopped his momentum entirely.
This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it
As his feet touched the ground, he looked at the rift between the clouds above him.
"This is not normal."
For the first time, Orion doubted reality.
At that point, Nature opened her mouth.
"If you ever feel your power being too much of a burden, it is possible to seal it away."
"..."
Orion kept his eyes on the clouds, his mind drifting into various conclusions.
"I just need to control them to perfection."
Having made up his mind, he smiled at Nature.
"What I make of it is my choice, right? Then I simply need to never let it affect my life."
Nature nodded lightly, her eye appearing pleased.
Suddenly, Orion felt something in his soul. Placing a hand on his chest, he frowned.
"Why?"
"Is there something wrong?"
Concerned, the figure leaned forward. As Orion turned his gaze to her, he frowned even more.
"Why don't I feel the fatigue of using my power?"
"If I had to explain, it feels like a glass being filled to the brim without ever overflowing or spilling its content."
Even Nature looked confused. What Orion said wasn't making sense.
"No..."
Orion turned around and entered his demonic form without a moment of hesitation.
Darkness spread around his feet, swallowing everything in the vicinity.
It kept stretching continuously without ever stopping.
"What... is happening?"
Confused, he returned the abyss into his shadow and looked at the ground baffled.
"Nature."
Turning his body rapidly, he stared at the creator of the concept of this world.
"Is it normal?"
She shook her head in disagreement.
"For some reason, your limitations have been entirely surpassed."
A sense of danger akin to the day Miasma came to life filled her.
"I am in perfect condition in any circumstance. Could it be because of the titles?"
Coming out of her stupor, the system analyzed him.
"..."
But again, she shook her head.
"I cannot say. So many variables have been mixed and mashed into you, making it difficult for me to know for certain."
"If I had more time to observe you, I would definitely come up with an answer, but now, it's impossible to learn anything."
Crossing his arms, Orion looked at the ground.
"It doesn't affect the actual strength behind my abilities. It feels more like an infinite source of stamina and magic energy."
A fountain of energy flowed through his soul, coming from an unknown source.
"Until you can pinpoint its origin, I will look at it on my side."
There was nothing else that could be done. So many things had happened that Orion was unsure how to process them all.
"Aah~"
Letting out a heavy sigh, he placed that matter on the side.
"I have a question unrelated to me. Or, at least, not entirely."
He faced the machine that maintained Nature's presence in the realm.
"After all of this convoluted matter, it would do me good to talk about something else. Go on."
Returning to her natural composure, the figure of Nature crossed its legs.
Seeing that she was more comfortable, he asked.
"What exactly is purity?"
The mood instantly turned around, and the smile on her face turned upside-down.
"I do not know."
"This is an answer I have tried to find since the day Miasma came to be."
With a heavy heart, she explained her findings.
"All I have is conjecture and speculation. For a system, you might think that it is surprising that I do not know everything."
After leaning backward, she continued.
"For a start, it is still a mystery, even to me, on how the humans and beastmen came to be."
"While I am a system that creates, I mainly capture the concepts of the world and maintain their existence. I am by no means the actual creator of the land and the people who were on it."
"And normally, a system does not question the way of the world."
Uncrossing her legs, she turned to the sky.
"Blanc is also an exception I never understood. Where did he come from? What was he doing? How did he come to be?"
"Even I cannot answer. Since Blanc is linked to purity in some way, previously encompassing the nature of that concept, there is no way for me to understand it as I never possessed it."
"But in that case, you might have an inkling as to what purity actually is, as you are the new holder of that power."
Orion nodded firmly.
"For all I know, this is an innate nature of this world's inhabitants. Or it might be a contained energy on Triazils."
"For I do not know other continents with such a peculiar energy."
Analyzing what was said, Orion asked a question that weighed on his mind.
"The Valkyries. What were they? A form of preservation system for humans to fight back against beastmen?"
Again, Nature shook her head.
"This was before I obtained an ego. I have no relevant analysis on this either."
"All I can say is that they were strong. These women were born with the title, which increased their innate abilities and gave them special powers."
Recalling something, he asked.
"What about their weapons? They were incredibly proficient with a weapon that seemed to possess a will of its own."
Vanitas was one of those special weapons.
"This, I know."
Crossing her arms, Nature leaned forward and stared directly at Orion, happy to finally be able to answer one of his questions.
"These weapons are peculiar. They seem to possess a soul, as you have already acknowledged."
"Through Henrietta and Tetra, I managed to observe these weapons closely."
"Their origin is unknown, but souls from this very world seem to have taken hold of them."
"If I had to speculate, I would say that the soul of previous Valkyries dwells inside them. The innate nature to protect these women possessed and continued to fuel the weapons even to this day."
Opening his eyes wide, Orion fell in deep shock.
"I had not thought about this. It makes sense."
"Why have I ever thought Valkyries were a one-time given title?"
The lack of records from that time, plus the death of their last member, made any relevant and accurate assessments only that: conjectures.
But now, with Nature's own analysis, Orion could see the broader picture.
His eyes sharpened, and he laid down a question that shook the fundamentals of the world.
"Can you create more Valkyries?"
His thoughts were explicit.
"..."
Nature closed her month and pondered the question. Genuine discomfort appeared as she gathered the needed answer.
"Ten Remnants... Ten women. You are a crazy man, wanting them to undertake such a difficult change."
"Yet, this is impossible."
Orion's expression remained focused, even as his question received a negative answer.
"Why?"
Nature nodded and explained in detail.
"The title of 'Valkyrie' was devoured alongside the souls of these women. Unless recovered, I cannot make new Valkyries."
"But to recover it means finding a way to sever the devoured soul from the creature that devoured it."
Turning his back to Nature, Orion brought a finger to his chin.
"Then, Blanc's request to recover Frey's soul becomes relevant."
Making sure this was worth the risk, she checked, risking angering the man.
"Do you seriously consider turning your wives and your daughter into Valkyries?"
With an unbothered expression, he turned around and glanced at the eye.
"Is that a problem?"
A short silence was the only response.
