Ch-29, The Declaration Of War

  “Sir Edward!”

A Women, about 30 years old, crashed into the small tower at the top of the 2nd peak with a expression that screamed urgency.

“What happened?” Edward appeared on his chair, his teacup in hand.

“The gates are showing signs of opening, Sir Hiem believes that they will open completely within 20 days.”

Edward put down the tea cup he was holding. He closed his eyes and the staff that was besides his leg glowed a little.

“We are going to have a meeting now.” Saying this he looked at the women and both of them disappeared, only to reappear in the conference room.

“You called Sir?” Farion appeared after a few moments, although he usually addressed Edward in not so respectful ways that was only when in private, in public he knew the amount of respect that had to be given to the man named Edward.

“The gates are opening” With this simple sentence all the calmness from Farion’s face disappeared.

“What happened” Elen appeared, his new looking overcoat suggesting that he was a new addition to the ranks of the Legendaries.

  “The gates opened” Farion replied.

Similar to Farion Elen’s expression changed too.

He sat down on one of the seats, waiting for the rest of the legendaries to arrive, and soon men and women of different posts started to fill up the seats.

The moment the last seat was occupied Edward began speaking.

“News has arrived that the gates are about to open.”

  ‘so soon’

‘I thought it would take another 10 years before another war against the creatures’

  ‘who will be goin-

“Silence” Edward raised his hand and the room fell silent.

“The gates will open within 20 days, as predicted by Grand-Mage Hien, and I called you all to decide who will be going.

“How many abyss kings are we expecting?” Farion asked

Abyss kings were creatures equal to system made legendaries in strength, though legendary mages could handle 2 such creatures comfortably.

  Edward looked towards the women.

“Sir Hien predicted that 3 Kings would be attacking this time, though there are chances of a 4th one joining in.” She answered and once again receded to the corner of the room, and why wouldn’t she?, each of the 14 mages in this room was easily tens of times stronger than Sir Fien, and the Demigod of water and life, Edward, might have hundreds of times the mana of any other mage in this room.

“Elen, Farion, Amos and Florence, You 4 are going to the War zone this time. Harold and Kane, you both will serve as backup in case the number of Abyssal kings exceed 4.”

“SIR!” Someone knocked at the door

Edward frowned at the unexpected disturbance.

“Enter, and you better have a good reason for disturbing us”

The door opened, and a man in his 40’s entered, his plump belly was taut with tension, and his face was filled with graveness.

“The gods, the gods have sent a messenger, And she is just walking through all of our defences like she owns the place.”

Immediately the already tension filled faces of all the mages in the room darkened.

“How insolent!” A playful voice rang through the room, a young women, as though she was in her 20’s, entered the room through the door, the signs of destruction visible from the dust and metal scraps sticking to her long black robe.

“How are you Edward! It has been like what? 80 years? Anyways it has been so long since we last met!”

Edward calmly looked at her with his sky blue eyes almost ready to kill her the moment she did anything wrong.

“Oh! So scary! Anybody who would save the damsel in distress in this room! Farion perhaps? Or our young hero Elen? What about you Florence? We even have a history of fighting together!”

  No one said a word.

“No fun you guys! I am telling you, you all will die without getting married with how you behave! Perhaps Elen might get married but the rest of you? No chance”

“What do you want?” Edward finally asked.

“I don’t want anything, I just wanted to visi-”

“Stop with the bullshit Eva! I think you have forgotten how I beated you when you decided you were strong enough to beat me!” Farion suddenly stood up and thundered.

Eva’s face suddenly darkened, no one wanted to be suddenly reminded of a one sided beating after all.

“Do you dare try it again oldie!?”

“I think these old bones still have enough in them to break a few of your ancient bones”

  “HAHAHAHAHAHA”

Just as suddenly as her face had darkened she suddenly started to laugh wildly.

“This is why I hate the god made demigods, they are just so completely wrong to an extent” Farion mumbled and sat back down.

Then just as suddenly she stopped laughing.

“I have come today to act as a messenger”

“Then say the god damn message!” Farion shouted.

But it looked as though all her emotions had suddenly disappeared.

“The gods have decided that it has been too boring nowadays, and it has been decided that an all out crussade will be declared on the mage faction. The gods wish you luck, as this time 10 demigods will be participating in the crussade”

Saying this she turned around and walked out of the room.

Silence dominated the room even after 10 minutes had passed since her exit.

“We need all our manpower focusing on defense against the crussade, but we still need to defend against the abyssals, If we don’t the gods will just let them exist on Prithyu and countless humans will suffer.”

Edward grew silent for a few more minutes.

“How many legendary mages do we have Ambrose?”

“794 in total” Ambrose, a brown-haired women wearing a bright red dress instead of the different colored robes that everybody else was wearing spoke.

“And how many system made legends are there?”

“Atleast 4 hundred thousand sir, though they would not be bringing anymore than 2 or 3 thousand. And we can’t forget the 10 demigods”

  Edward rubbed his eyebrows.

“We someone who can handle the abyss kings alone to go deal with that”

Every legendary turned their heads towards Farion, ‘The Fiery Mage’, Though he was famous for being an excellent teacher he was an even greater mage himself. He had fought 8 legendaries to a standstill on his own once.

  “But I still need a army, I can’t fight alone can I?”

“Isn’t Hein’s army available?” Elen asked.

“It is, you might not know this due to not having experienced the abyss invasion before, but the army that is stationed there is only enough to handle the stranglers that sometimes invade, it is certainly not enough to fight off a full blown invasion, specially not with the abyss curse affecting anyone who goes too close to the space cracks.” Ambrose answered.

“Can we afford to send another army?” Farion asked Edward.

  Edward shook his head.

  *sigh* Farion sighed.

“I will manage, though there will be a lot of sacrifices.” He said.

  The room grew silent again.

Suddenly Edward who was sitting with his eyes closed opened them.

“We can send one batch of mages”

  “Who?”

Edward didn’t say anything, but his eyes turned towards the academy.

“So you are saying..” Adiel pointed at Eleven who was sitting on my shoulder in shock.

“Yup, I have bonded with Eleven” I replied.

“And I can also do this now” A wisp of fire left my finger, it slowly expanded until it took the shape of a snake, the snake slowly started changing color as though it was molting, and it turned the iconic green associated with wind mana.

The snake flew around and then hit the ground, leaving behind a few scratches.

“Wouldn’t it have been better if you bonded with a fire spirit? It would have increased you mana control” Delsa said.

“Scratch that, the small amount by which the mana control increases is nothing for the insomia Eric” Delsa commented after taking one hard look at my face.

They had, for some reason, started calling me the insomnia eric.

Provided I only slept once a week but that was by choice, not due to insomnia.

Eleven chuckled at me being called insomnia eric, it seems he was really happy after forming a bond with me as he had been laughing a lot more than usual.

And it was not as if I was majorly impacted, so I was happy I could make a kid happy.

I did meditate in order to figure out the amount by which the efficiency was reduced, and it was not any different, while the automatic mana recovery all mage apprentices gained had slowed down by about 4 or 5 percent? It was not that big of a deal.

Its not as if I am going to go to a war anytime soon.

And meditation was the most important for mage apprentices anyways, The maximum amount of mana that a mage could carry was increased by a little any time they meditated, and while mana could recover to that maximum amount, in order to grow and become quasi mages meditation was the most important.

That along with engraving the hundred spells a mage apprentice could, although I had already finished engraving all hundred, only the talent spell was left.

All sort of spells, ranging from invisibilty, sound transmission, lock unlocking, cooling, heating, quicken to spells that helped with engraving more spells.

“So when are we leaving the academy?” Eleven asked.

“Wait a little more, it has only been a single night since we were bonded, after becoming a Quasi mage by next year we will spend half a year on a mission outside the academy anyways.”

“That is half a year away, though I am free from the guardian duties since now I am bonded to a mage, not that I will mind waking up children for a little while longer.”

He was a little too happy, but I decided to let him b-

‘Bring Theo and come to me right now’ Farion’s voice, filled with a seriousness rarely exhibited by the old man, sounded in my ears.
