Chapter 15: Alexa did nothing!

Going back to her apartment was easier, there were less people around. If anything the only thing she found on the way was a group of Minions carrying construction equipment and for some reason, [Golem] going with them in what looked to be..a smaller form.

“[Notice, Human Subject: Golem, is at his normal size. Host hasn’t encountered him this close outside of a combat setting or on a high-stress scenario.]”

  So he looked like this?

Perhaps, usually, it was either Ale or Alexa the one interacting with them; even that one time she fought, they hadn’t stayed close by, had she?

Either way, she acted as if she hadn’t noticed him and [Golem] seemed too focused on moving construction equipment around to pay attention to her. So, like that, Alexandra walked past them into the Elevator…

This one would leave her at the ground level, so she took off the Mask and made sure that her clothes looked normal enough without evidence of her travel through the sewers. That had been easier since she hadn’t actually fought anything there (Dang it!).

And so she didn’t have much to disguise; the only thing she had to deal with was the smell, but that one she had already dealt with while walking to [Eleanore]’s office.

That had been a problem that she hadn’t expected to have to deal with. Since it meant that she had one less reliable [Human], granted [Eleanore] had said, or well, promised to not use her powers against her again. And she should only use those on Ale or Alexa with the permission of someone that had the best intentions on her…

Damnation, she should have stipulated that only herself or Main Core could grant permission…

“Alexa can make good decisions too!”

“Debatable…But yeah, you screwed us over there. That means the only people that can allow her to use those powers on us are Big Sis, Golem, or Elder.”

As always, Alexa spoke without thinking, while Ale seemed to be more mature…as long as she wasn’t being affected by a body, that is. Precocious girl.

“Fine, let’s continue this at home,” Alexandra said as she waited for the doors of the Elevator to open and walked into the reception area.

Some people seemed to take notice of her, but Alexandra ignored them all, they all were…beneath them. Mere [Base Humans] weren’t that interesting, and none had quite the right appearance.

That was interesting, she knew that her body affected her as much as it affected Alexa or Ale. Shaping her thoughts and acts, but the fact that she found other [Humans] as beneath her…

Was this affected by the fact that she was fascinated by Sam? Or was it some part of her own tastes? The idea that these [Humans] didn’t have anything to offer her… it made them all…negible to her.

She didn’t care about them or how they saw her,

That was interesting, and she would probably attempt to look at this train of thought again when she wasn’t tied to a physical body…

“Miss…. Alexandra?” The receptionist reacted as she passed by her, “We… received a package for you…”

And seemed quite nervous for some reason.

“You did?” Alexandra said surprised, most of her things were provided by [Haephestus’ Forge] or salvaged by her in combat or exploration. There shouldn’t be anything delivered to her by the use of human couriers…or…delivery….people… “*sigh* Who sent it? It has a name stuck to it?”

Alexandra felt the beginning of a headache forming, which was a weird thing to feel since she had full control over her bodily functions, so she should not be able to feel a headache that she didn’t want to have.

“It…It says ‘From your Handsome brother′.” The receptionist said slowly, then with her left hand she moved a white page to the side and tapped at it with her other hand, “Please confirm and sign it.”

The finger had tapped at the emblem of a yellow bird, that all but confirmed who had sent the package, Alexanders.

“Thank you,” Alexandra said, writing her name on the other page the receptionist had handed her, then covered the emblem with the white page and stuck it to the box using a quick burst of her Nanites. “Was that all?”

“Yes, thank you. Please receive future packages from this sender in a PO Box next; it isn’t against the terms of service. But some of the other inhabitants of this place may find it troublesome.” The receptionist said in a low tone, not like the other people here wouldn’t hear it.

At least those that had a [Beast Core] had probably heard her and turned their eyes to stare at her, the emblem was already covered, so it was besidse the point. “I’ll take it into consideration, but I didn’t ask this to be delivered here, so bring your complaints to the sender.” Alexandra said and took her box to the…stairs.

She also didn’t want to deal with the faulty Elevator if she could prevent it.

The stairs had their own charm, even if she had to climb several storeys, granted it was something she could prevent if she fixed it, but that was besides the point.

“What did he even send us? This feels heavy.” Alexandra said eyeing the box, it was almost half as tall as her, and while it wasn’t as heavy as her, it was still quite heavy.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

“Mango!” “Probably something to annoy us.”

The thoughts of her other two selves were quite predictable, Alexa thought only of the fruit, that while it was quite delectable, it wasn’t all that there was, Alexandra believed it would be something closer to what Ale had said to be honest.

“Probably something to annoy us yes.” So she answered in kind aloud, as she did so she percieved some snickering in the distance.

So increasing the sensibility of her hearing she tried to locate the location of the sound, it took a few floors and some focus to ignore the sound of her own footsteps but she was finally able to narrow down it, it came from a couple stairs ahead of her, to be precise it was someone who was ahead of her and was giggling.

She could probably narrow down the distance with some quick burst of energy but decided against it since, as far as her senses told her, the amount of threat she perceived was minimal, if anything.

“[Estimated danger rating: Minimal. Estimated threat rating: Minimal.]”

  Yeah, that.

  Why was it that low?

“Are you sure she will not know?” The voice spoke in a hushed tone, as if trying to keep itself from giggling.

“Yeah she doesn’t know, papa said that she is a miscellaneous core. Only a beast core would be able to notice it, remember. The idea was of the blonde girl,” Another voice said in hushed tones.

  The blonde girl? Alexa?

“They are lying! I didn’t do nothing!” Alexa chimed in quickly, Alexandra got the image of Alexa crossing her small arms and pouting.

  Heh.

“Now!” And as Alexandra debated what to do, she arrived at her floor and heard that scream.

The first thing that happened was a bucket of water was thrown her way; Alexandra merely sidestepped that and let the bucket fall down the stairs; she didn’t envy whoever was going to clean that one.

“Run!” And afterwards a group of kids ran away, Alexandra recognized some of those, a few of them looked like the kids on Alexa’s class.

Not the Elite one, the one she had gone to under [Teach Baker]. Interesting, she had wondered what had happened to those kids, but it seemed they were quite alright.

Alexandra thought for a few seconds if chasing was a good idea or not, but since she had already arrived at her floor….She decided against it, instead she walked towards her apartment.

She could hear some hushed sounds farther away, were the kids still trying to come up with something? She wasn’t sure, but it was beside the point as Alexandra arrived at her door and walked in. As expected, nothing was amiss besides a note on her dining table.

“I changed the keys to your apartment, here is the new one. I gave a copy to your teammates and told them to not let Eleanore in unless you gave her a key…” Was what the note said, besides it was a new key and a reminder that her door now had NFC key too, and that she could link it to her cellphone or bracelet if she wanted.

Now…why would she link that to the piece of technology she wasn’t sure she could trust was the question.

“[No outgoing data transmissions detected from Saintsworths piece of technology.]”

And she didn’t trust Main Core on this particular thing, not yet anyway. The thing was still isolated from interacting with data transmissions both incoming and outgoing, for now she would check the stupid box that Alexanders had sent her.

“Main Core, prepare in case of anything jumping out.” Alexandra said, taking a deep breath; she wasn’t sure why. But she was annoyed at the package less than she was at Alexanders for sending her something.

So with measured movements she got close to the box and shifted her right hand index finger into a sharpened claw, the box didn’t do a good work to resist her intrusion and after a quick slash the box’s content was open to all to see.

Or, in this case, to Alexandra.

“....well, that is lackluster,” Alexandra said, extending her hand and picking up a piece of paper that was stuck to a black box within the box that she had brought to her apartment… “Hello my lovely little sister, Sapphire reminded me that you probably don’t have any useful computer besides the one stuck in your head, and she nagged me about software security…”

Alexandra wanted to strangle that man, so many words and so little content; what the hell did he want?

“Anyway…here is one of my older computers, I formated all the data on it and left our Operating System. You should be able to use it for sometime till you can build yourself something better ???? ˉ???ˉ?? )? “ Alexandra continued reading the letter, and afterwards there was a small list with the things that he had sent her way.

-PC Case. The big black box that weighed almost 20 kilograms.

-Three Monitors, for some reason. Why did she need so many monitors?

  -Keyboard.

-Mouse (It wasn’t alive nor had biomass, Alexandra was cheated).

-A Chair, that for some weird reason had a little too many vivid colors, and at the head had a small pillow…And the chairs had ears. Why did a chair have ears?

-Soundsystem (Basically seven speaker boxes) and headphones (That also had cat ears…was this a thing?)

-Two bottles of a transparent liquid with bubbles. Alexandra wasn’t sure if she wanted to know what it was.

-A smaller box filled with a weird red package of some type of food in the form of a triangle.

“Please use the computer responsibly, and if you want to make money, I have added a secondary box.” Alexandra pulled the things out one by one to make sure she wasn’t missing anything (The chair had needed to be remade since its pieces had been separated), and sure enough at the very back of it was a smaller box. “There you have one of our Saintsworths endorsed webcams, and the number of some cosplayer makers. Please make us proud (But stay away from the +18 genre, Sapphire will kill me if you end up there).”

Alexandra couldn’t help herself but throw the extra box against a wall, she wasn’t sure why she did that, but her body had done that in a reflex and the image of Alexanders laughing at her for that reaction couldn’t leave her mind.

Was he spying on her? He was probably spying on her.

“Main Core, call [Billy].” Alexandra said pulling out her cellphone and then noticing how it wasn’t dialing anyone…She remembered that Main Core was isolated from the network, so she dialed his number manually…Like a peasant.

“Hello? Kiddo? Is something the matter?” [Billy] answered before the first ringing tone ended sounding.

“Is it possible for anyone on the Saintsworths Conglomerate to spy on me? I feel like they are right now.” Alexandra said glaring at the box that she had thrown away, it didn’t have a single scratch nor seemed damaged, what was it made of?

“Are you in your apartment? If you are there, then close to zero. not even the mighty Alexanders can pierce our defenses from his ivory tower. Even if he somehow managed to sneak in a device, the data transmission wouldn’t be able to leave the apartment.” [Billy] said with a sneer in his voice, he seemed quite confident, “Don’t underestimate a Tinkerer’s home network.”

“I see….so if my brother sent me a package as a joke to get under my skin…there is no way for him to know how I reacted?” Alexandra said, walking warily at the package she had thrown away, “Even if said package included a camera?”

“...Why would he? But yeah, if you decide to use a public network to communicate with him, or do a video call then yes. He will be able to see you, but watching you without you knowing or starting/accepting the call. You can call him without asking for permission, too; Haephestus’ Forge will not meddle with your family relationship.” [Billy] added after a few seconds.

“Thank you, then I’ll set up this computer thing he mailed me…” Alexandra sighed and ended the call after some other pleasantries from [Billy].

He mostly wanted to make sure she didn’t need help to set it up, but looking at the stuff that Alexanders had sent…

She didn’t want more people to see it if possible, the asshole had sent a few extra notes on white paper with instructions and suggestions about how to set it up, and they annoyed Alexandra.

Mostly because these read as if he was looking down on her, making stupid jokes that Alexa found hillarious and laughed at the back of her mind, and in other instances he overly detailed instructions as if she didn’t know that to screw a piece she needed a screw driver.

  Of course she knew that!

  Who didn’t!

Besides Alexa, who would probably try to brute force it or eat the screw, screwdriver, and the piece to be screwed over.

  …Right.

Alexanders knew who she really was.

“And done…” Either way, Alexandra persisted and ended up moving the computer to her bedroom, she had made a new piece of furniture from some materials that she had around that wasn’t using (Mostly wood), and set up everything there. The device seemed….primitive.

Everything this thing was going to do, she could do too, and while more powerful than the notebook that [Billy] gave her, it was still negligible compared to Main Core…

Who was still disconnected from the network and, in turn, was mostly useless.

“At least till maintenance.” Alexandra said aloud to herself, but with this done, she could finally start delving into the stupid bracelet’s database without worrying about what she found.

She had only searched superficial things when she used it near [Billy] and [Eleanore], since she didn’t want to tip her hand…and past to them like that, especially not to [Eleanore] after what she tried to pull on her.

She….felt inclined to trust [Billy], but she wasn’t that sure of how he would react when he discovered her past, she wasn’t a normal [Kiddo] after all, she was closer to a [Thing] than anyone else on this place, the only one that could probably understand her was [Vulcanus], since he was also a [Machine pretending to be Human].

And even that…She hadn’t a confirmation on that, but merely suspicious since he didn’t seem to have much…or any [Biomass] on his body.

Either way, “It’s time for you to dump your information.” Alexandra said after the device finished powering up and placed her bracelet atop the black box, the [Pc Case].

This thing had a circle on the front that was just the right size for her bracelet, as soon as she placed it there the emblem of the golden bird started shining on the case, monitor, keyboard and even on the arm rests of her chair.

…Alexanders' family had a weird thing with golden birds it seemed.
