It's difficult for Oliver to estimate exactly how long the motorcade made up of hundreds of cars is, as the vehicle models vary greatly. His minibus is positioned towards the rear, surrounded by moving vehicles both in front and behind, with no end in sight.
Oliver is shocked to find that David's Hummer King is actually trailing behind the minibus. David is personally operating the eight-barreled heavy machine gun. The pitch-black barrels point forward, and the yellow bullet belts glisten coldly. Even though the safety is on, Oliver still feels a sense of danger. If David starts firing wildly, they're surely doomed.
However, from the base to the highway intersection, this worry didn't materialize.
Once the motorcade gets onto the highway, the speed surges to 100 kilometers per hour, and it's expected to reach Dellai City in about forty minutes.
Ten kilometers away from the base, zombies start to appear on both sides of the highway. Despite the presence of guardrails on the highway, a few zombies still manage to climb over and wander around.
Now Oliver understands why the heavy roadheader is leading the way. If a sedan hits a zombie at this speed, the zombie will be sent flying, and the car will definitely be damaged. But for a heavy roadheader weighing 120 tons, crushing zombies is as easy as pie, and the black marks on the highway are evidence of that.
However, when there are still thirty kilometers left to Wangtian City, the situation changes suddenly.
On both sides of the highway, groups of zombies, upon hearing the sound of the cars, rush towards the motorcade frantically. There are at least a dozen, and at most hundreds of them. They break through the guardrails and charge towards the motorcade recklessly.
The people in the motorcade are already used to this. Every time they go hunting, these zombies are just a warm-up.
To ensure the smooth progress of the motorcade, the sound of machine guns rings out from time to time. It lasts only a few short seconds, indicating that the zombies have been dealt with.
Since Oliver and the others are at the rear, they don't get a chance to take action. They can only watch as the zombies on both sides of the highway are shot into pieces.
Under the power of the heavy machine guns, when a zombie is hit, it will be split into two or lose its limbs. Even if it's still struggling, it no longer poses a threat.

The bodies of zombies pile up on both sides of the highway. After more than a year of accumulation, the number is astonishing. In some places, there's barely enough room for vehicles to pass, and the stench is overwhelming.
Oliver takes a few breaths of the air and almost vomits. He finally understands why many people prepared scented masks before coming.
He can't even imagine what it will be like for the remaining thirty kilometers and in Dellai City itself, considering it's already this bad after only half of the journey. With the zombies having been around for three and a half years, Dellai City is probably reeking terribly.
Tarzan and the others are clearly more experienced. Even though they don't have scented masks, they've prepared damp cloths to cover their noses.
James is driving the minibus. Tarzan and Oliver are sitting together. Seeing Oliver's pale face, Tarzan smiles and comforts him, "It's just this section of the road that smells so bad. It'll be better after driving another dozen or so kilometers."
He points at the zombies wandering in the distance outside the window and says, "Look, there are zombies on both sides of the highway. They move slowly, but they're heading towards the base."
Oliver also notices that highways usually bypass densely populated areas. These zombies obviously aren't from around here and are likely from Dellai City.
But there are still about thirty kilometers away from Dellai City, which is really worrisome.
Oliver asks, "When did this situation start?"
Tarzan replies, "When I went hunting half a year ago, they had already moved about five kilometers away from Dellai City. Now, the furthest ones have moved more than forty kilometers away."
Oliver takes a sharp intake of breath. Calculating like this, the zombies have moved 25 to 35 kilometers towards the base in half a year, and they're less than 20 kilometers away from the base.
This is just the situation on both sides of the highway. What about other places? Are the zombies even closer to the base?
Oliver knows that he can't figure it out unless the base has a radar or can use a satellite.
However, he then thinks that people who have survived in the apocalyptic world are all capable. This problem must have been discovered long ago, and it's not his place to remind the base management.
The motorcade is traveling at a speed of 100 kilometers per hour, and the remaining thirty kilometers pass quickly. In less than ten minutes, dense housing appears on both sides of the highway, and the number of zombies increases.
Everyone on the minibus grips their submachine guns tightly and aims out of the window. Zombies have already come into view.
David's Hummer King has been closely following the minibus all along. The eight-barreled heavy machine gun hasn't fired a single shot. He thinks it's not worth wasting bullets here. Its power can only be fully utilized when there are more densely packed zombies in the urban area.
The motorcade doesn't stop due to the increase in the number of zombies. It just slows down to 70 kilometers per hour.
About ten minutes later, the motorcade stops at the entrance square of Dellai City.
There aren't many zombies here, and a few cars equipped with heavy machine guns are clearing them away.
After all the vehicles have assembled, the intelligent systems on the vehicles receive the detailed task assignment sent by the heavy roadheader.
