Sunny September, part fourteen. Saved. Christopher.
“You made a wish?” I enquire.
She nods. “It’s one of my abilities.”
“Okay then,” I say, not sure what that even means but just glad as all hell I won’t be dying.
With a joyful laugh I sweep her up in my arms and spin her around yelling, “I’m sorry for talking to you like that over the phone. Thanks for saving my life!”
She giggles. “Good you shouldn’t speak to me like that ever again. You just don’t talk to a lady like that.”
I put her down and her face goes serious immediately, her attention directed at the living room.
“Let’s get this problem dealt with,” She says, before looking at me and continuing to say, “you should see this for yourself. It’ll blow your mind.”
“Honestly after everything I’ve seen tonight I doubt that.”
“Christopher don’t be a killjoy,” she laughs.
It’s like whiplash, how fast everything has changed. Just minutes ago I fancied myself a deadman yet now I feel a warmth I can’t describe in her presence. Perhaps it’s just the euphoria of being saved that I’m feeling. It won’t last long though as I still have my arrest that’s pending.
I follow her into the living room where I see that the monsters have stopped their battle, their bodies frozen in time as if mere statues of biblical demons.
Fredrick holds a sister in his grasp and appears to have been frozen right when he was about to throw her to the ground. Two more sisters mount his back, their hands midway through clawing at his face and neck.
For a moment I think that time itself has stopped, but the continuous flashing of the one intact party light that’s left confirms that not to be the case. I hear a car pass by outside and when my gaze narrows in on the front door, it seems that the sister that was sent outside was frozen while sealing up the door with webs.
“How did you do this?” I ask.
“With the power of my status,” she answers confusingly, “these lesser souls must obey me. If I tell them to freeze then they have no choice in the matter.”
“That’s sure is something I guess.” I say rubbing the back of my neck before stretching and yawning.
She strolls her way up to Fredrick before placing her hand on his back.
It’s only now that I notice the gown she’s wearing. It’s beautiful and seems to be a concentration of the light that engulfs her.
She slowly removes her hand from him, a black fog seeping from his body as it gradually returns to human form.
Looking around I see the same change occurring in the sisters.
The fog swirls through the air before condensing into a black translucent orb in the palm of Chica’s hand. Looking at her I truly feel like the term entity describes her more accurately than girl.
“Do you know what the cause of this was?” I enquire, “actually that’s a dumb question of course you know.”
She nods. “It’s a kind of spiritual parasite, one that feeds on the delusions of their host. They gradually transform into creatures like this while the reality around them is warped according to their delusions.”
A spiritual parasite? My mind is blown. I never once imagined that such a thing could exist. I guess life is just full of surprises like that.
She closes her hand into a fist containing the darkness within. She then covers it with both hands and closes her eyes as another explosion of light gradually builds up around her. This one far more powerful than the other two. A great gust of wind starts to swirl around her as the light intensifies to the point that even closing my eyes does nothing to shield them from it.
There’s suddenly a blast that almost makes me fall over, then I get the feeling a great darkness has lifted from this house.

Opening my eyes, I see that a purely translucent orb now hovers in her hand that she gives a kiss and then fans away.
It floats for a few feet before gradually fading into invisibility.
“What did you just do?”
With a giggle she answers, “I purified it and now it’s back to what it should be, a harmless soul particle.”
“Soul particle?”
Her giggles transition into a laugh. “You’re like a beautiful peacock trapped in a cage that’s never seen the outside world. This reality you live in is so small compared to mine.”
She looks around at the devastation in the room before saying, “I wish this house was back to perfect condition.”
Everything shifts, the house instantly exactly as it was when I first walked in here hours before like the hell I’ve been through never happened.
Chica heads back to the kitchen and I follow.
She stops and smiles back at me gesturing to the marble kitchen table that’s adorned with all kinds of dishes and delicacies, something I didn’t even notice until now.
She steals some cakes and other small pastries before saying, “I’m sure you have a lot of questions.”
“You can’t even begin to imagine,” I reply.
“Well if you want to find out it won’t be for free,” she teases, “I did you a favour tonight and I want something in return.”
“Like what?”
She laughs as she leans against the counter while twirling her hair with one finger. “You’re a smart guy, figure it out.”
She starts to go translucent along with the food she baskets with one arm. She walks backwards fazing through the counter and then the wall and out into the backyard. I can’t let her leave just yet as I still have one last favour to ask her so I run out the back door yelling, “wait I still need your help with something.”
Her body goes back to solid and she asks, “what is it? Just know that what I’ll need you to do in return will increase correspondingly.”
I get close to her and whisper in her ear, “me and my friends were the ones who blew up the Hollywood sign. I’m sure you’ve heard all about Markeiff’s arrest. There were actually seven of us involved.”
“You’re a bad boy,” she teases, “why should I help you out with that? If you do the crime do the time.”
“Because if you help I’ll do anything you want me to do in return,” I answer without hesitation.
“Okay i like the sound of that!” She laughs, “that look of desperation is so adorable on you.”
“Can you break Markeiff out?” I ask.
“That would be a logistical nightmare,” she answers, “if I break him out they still know his face and have a warrant out for his arrest. He’ll just be locked up again.”
“Chica pleas…”
She shakes her head. “I’m sorry the best I can do is erase his memories of you so he can’t tell the police you’re involved.”
“Chica come on,” I say hugging her while gently stroking her cheek while I press my forehead against her’s, “I will do anything and I mean ANYTHING. Back in class you said that I was safe as long as you’re here. Don’t you intend to stay true to it?”
She doesn’t answer but I press on knowing how to get into a girl’s head. “we’re friends remember? Don’t you think it’s cruel to let me get locked up after meeting such a...” Remembering that calling her pretty or beautiful won’t suffice I think up something better and say, “priceless treasure…”
“Really?” She asks, her face flushed.
I nod. “I don’t want to go to jail because I might not ever see you again and that terrifies me. My ears will never again be graced by your beautiful laugh and I won’t be able to get lost in the deepness of your dimples again.”
She laughs in my face, her outburst causing a spit droplet to fly into my fucking eye.
“Boy you’ve only known me for a few a hours,” she points out continuing to laugh bitchily, “you’re so clingy ew, what are you gonna say next? That you want to marry me?”
I shake my head removing my hands from her face and stepping back. “You can have a good laugh but whatever it is you want me to do for you I won’t be able to do from behind bars.”
“Hey don’t get all gloomy,” She giggles, “I was just fucking with you earlier I can totally break him out no problem. Still I must say that attempt at manipulating me wasn’t half bad it might have worked if I was ten.”
“So you’ll do it?” I ask.
She nods. “Yes but I’ll need a picture of him since I don’t know what he looks like and I’ll need to know where he’s being kept currently.”
“But you saw him during lunch time and you didn’t need to know my location to find me?” I point out.
She nods again. “That’s true but it’s only because you left a much stronger impression on me. It can’t just be anyone especially if it’s someone I don’t find physically attractive.”
I laugh. “Y’know I actually kinda like you Chica.”
Her eyes widen, her words urging. “In what way?”
“You’re funny,” I say, “you’re just a plain and shallow bitch and you’re not ashamed of it. It’s weirdly endearing.”
She takes offence. “That’s not true okay I’m just very honest. I’m not saying him being average looking is a crime!”
“Here’s a photo of him.” I say showing her my phone, “I’ll text it to you later but I don’t think I can help with where he’s at exactly. Just start with the closest police station to Middlecrest High.”
“So you’re expecting me to go on a wild goose chase?” She sighs. “I’m going to be expecting something just as tedious in return.”
“I have one last question,” I say before asking, “what are you if you’re not human?”
She backs away from me, her smile growing wider. “I’m an angel.”
Light overwhelms me again and when I open my eyes I see a sight that takes my breath away.
A pair of vast white and feathery wings each just a long as she is tall extend from her upper back. I also notice that she has a second much smaller pair that’s folded just above her ears. A long and feathery tail whips around behind her that ends in a fluke of larger pointier feathers.
As I stand there speechless, she flaps her wings and a gust of wind pushes me back. Her feet lift from the ground and after a second more powerful flap the shock wave of which knocks me on to my ass, she’s off into the darkness of the sky.
