Chapter 1: The cursed boy

In an old legend, a boy was born in a remote village of the Fyretel Kingdom. The moment he emerged from his mother's womb, he let out a cry so loud that it shook the ground and shattered the sky.

Just as the villagers feared they would be torn apart by the boy's cries, he suddenly stopped. He slowly opened his eyes, and his golden pupils shone so brightly that turned the night into day. Surprisingly, the radiant light did not hurt the villagers' eyes, instead, it healed them.

After a moment, he closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep. The villagers erupted in cheers, proclaiming it a divine miracle and declaring the boy to be a son of the gods. His parents could hardly contain their excitement.

From that night onward, everyone treated the boy and his parents with great respect. As the boy grew up slowly, day by day and year by year, he eventually became a man. His golden pupils sparkled as before, and people began to believe he was sent by God to save them.

The man’s good deeds spread throughout the Fyretel Kingdom, reaching the ears of the king. Without hesitation, the king sent knights to summon him.

When the knights arrived at the remote village, the man was tending to his sheep, now a shepherd. One of the knights dismounted and approached him with a scroll in hand.

The knight knelt and read, "Oh dear messenger of God, it is my honor to invite you to the capital of the Fyretel Kingdom, to the royal palace. Our king wishes to meet you and ask you some questions. Would you accept this invitation?"

The knight handed the scroll to the man, who smiled lightly as he took it to read. This was a tradition in the Fyretel Kingdom. After reading, he nodded in agreement.

"Great! We have prepared a carriage for you. Please follow me," the knight said as he stood up.

"I appreciate your kindness, but I don't need it," the man replied with a deep laugh. "I will take you all to the royal palace."

Without a second, his golden pupils shone again, and black hair swayed in the air. A golden complex magic circle expanded beneath the man. The sky and land shook under its mythical power, thousands of thin white light beams fell from the sky and land into the magical circle

Under everyone's shocked gaze, a thick beam of light erupted from the magic circle, enveloping the man and the knights, and then soared into the sky...

  .....

"Alright, Castor, that's enough." The gentle woman's voice echoed in the ruined room. An invisible figure closed the book and placed it on the table beside the chair.

The floor and walls of this room were made of stone, but they had become brittle and dilapidated over the years, and were covered with vines and flowers. But the bed, chair, and table in the room are like new, which was very strange.

"Mother, can't you finish the bedtime story...?" A boy who lay on the bed and said with a young voice. He wore a whole white patient gown, his pupils were dull and grey. It was Castor.

"It's late now, my dear son. You need to sleep now, tomorrow is your birthday, and we will celebrate for you. Are you excited?" The mother asked in a gentle voice.

"Excited? I don't know... I don't have that emotion." Castor said while staring blankly at the invisible figure, who was his mother.

"You will have it in the future..." The mother chuckled and disappeared after she blew out the candle, although she was invisible but the boy could still see her contour.

After the candle was blown out, the light disappeared, and the room was invaded by the silent darkness. The boy on the bed seems to have gotten used to it.

Castor closed his eyes, but his head was full of thoughts, making him unable to sleep. Tomorrow was his birthday, but he didn't feel happy or excited at all. He knew what caused him to be like this, a curse, he got 'cursed'. Not only him, but the whole family.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

This curse made him lose his emotions. He could not feel happiness, sadness, anger, fear, or more.

He has lived here for 13 years, and he has always led a boring life. However, he has brothers, sisters, younger sisters, and even uncles and aunts here. But without exception, they are all dead.

The intense headache and noise in his brain made him rub his forehead gently as if trying to calm down the noise in his head. But the noise in his head was even worse. However, due to the curse, the little boy didn't even feel mad, but felt pain.

The little boy sighed, then he suddenly thought of a question: Why can I see ghosts? This should not be a 'curse', but more like a 'blessing'.

Just as he was about to enter deep thought, the voice in his head was amplified again, as if someone was mumbling. The sweat poured down from his head and sank into the pillow and his suit.

"This is more like a 'curse'." The boy sighed.

If this headache continues tonight, he will definitely not be able to sleep. Thinking of this, he opened his eyes, got out of bed, and then walked to the door very skillfully as if he could see in the dark. He opened the door and left the room.

In the dark corridor outside the door, the boy walked carefully while holding onto the wall to ensure that he would not make any noise.

After passing through everyone's room doors, the end of the corridor was a huge living room, and then the door. The gaps in the broken wall revealed traces of moonlight, allowing the boy to see the location of the door clearly.

The old wooden door squeaked as he pulled it slowly. Suddenly, the door fell off the wall, just when it was going to fall on the ground and make a huge noise, the boy grabbed the door tightly and let it lean against the wall.

  "Phew." He sighed in relief.

He walked out of the building, and outside was a forest with many flowers and fireflies. The light of fireflies shone like stars in the night sky. Castor knew that this place was isolated by the forbidden sea, this place is an island where no ship passes around.

When he walked forward for a distance, he stopped and looked back, and at this time, the chill breeze blew towards him. A huge old, ruined castle appears in his vision. This is where he lived for these 13 years.

From his earliest memory to the present day, the appearance of this enormous castle has remained unchanged. He had no idea about the origin of the castle. He had asked his mother about it over the past 13 years, but his mother's answer was incomprehensible to him.

'This castle is a gift from the curse.'

That was the answer from Mother. Also, Castor has asked multiple questions whenever he has new ideas and is confused.

  'Mother, what is my surname?"

'It has been cursed, you can't know your full name yet.'

She said with a sigh and a sad tone, she patted Castor's head gently as if comforting him, but unfortunately, Castor couldn't feel a ghost's touch.

'Mother, are those fairy tales true?'

'If you believe it, then it's true."

She chuckled with a happy tone. She grabbed another fairy tale book and handed it to Castor to encourage him to read more and also learn more. After all, most fairy tale has their mortal of the story, which is important for building the three views.

'Mother, how was the world outside?'

'It fills with hope and light but also desperation and dark.'

  'Mother, why are we cursed?"

  '...We are the sinners."

Mother was stunned for a moment and said. She didn't expect Castor to ask this question.

  'Mother, why are we sinners...?'

  '.....'

  Mother fell into silence.

  'Mother... where is my father...?'

  '.....'

  Mother... disappeared...

Until now, his mother still hasn't answered his questions. She seems to be avoiding it.

Castor continued to walk along the flowery path, his steps were very light and careful, as if he didn't want to hurt the flowers and plants. The insects in the forest accompanied him, some chirped for him, and some glowed for him, lighting the way ahead.

"Can you guys lead me to the beach?" Castor asked, the sudden asking into the air made the scene a little strange.

'Yes.' A clear word appeared in his mind. The next moment, those fireflies formed a line and flew slowly to lead Castor to the beach.

Yeah, he can communicate with insects and animals. Castor didn't know why he had this ability, it seemed abnormal, but he was also relieved because he could even see the ghosts.

  .....

Within a few minutes, Castor arrived at the beach by fireflies' lead. It was almost pitch black here, and Castor couldn't see anything, but he could feel the wet and chill sand under his feet and the salty sea breeze blowing.

Fireflies fly around and illuminate the beach with their weak light. Castor sat down slowly. The temperature here was very cozy, which made the mumbling in his head quiet down until it disappeared completely.

"Is this the feeling of comfort...? I feel it's near me but... I can't touch it..." Castor murmured and lay down on the beach, "Ah... tomorrow is my birthday... will I get that impulsive emotion again...?"

When the surrounding noise disappeared, a feeling of sleepiness slowly eroded Castor's mind, and he slowly fell asleep under the witness of the moon and the stars in the vast night sky.
