It was busy at the guild. Many folks wanted to apply for the job…
Some sought glory, others sought reasons, but most sought the pay.
“I hope I don't get overtime,” I mutter under my breath, sighing softly before laying my head on the counter—maybe so I could take a nap for a few minutes or so.
…
Then I heard footsteps.
“Hello, will you be applying…?”
I raised my head lightly and sat up more comfortably.

“Sir, I've never seen you here before. Are you here to apply?”
I slide the paper to him to sign.
“Name, age, skills, and all the other things. I hope you're able to fill most of it out. However, as a receptionist, I am able to fill out things you are unable to write down.”
I tap my fingers on the counter gently, smiling at the man slightly.
He was quite old, I thought.
Mostly young folks would get the job.
He's definitely going to die. He's old, fragile—probably has grandkids.
But since he's applying, he's probably stubborn, or maybe just broke.
I'd rather not pry.
“Hm… You missed a few. It's fine… However, I will fill it out for you, sir…”
I peep at the paper.
“Sir Pax? No last name? That is fine as well.”
I slid the badge onto the counter.
“You are now a Lapis, the lowest class of the Fundamentum. Please try not to kill yourself, alright? The quest board is over there, sir.”
I lean and point at the quest board on the left of the guild.
He then nodded his head lightly, muttering “thank you” under his breath.
He went to the quest board before leaving the guild. His movements were slow… however, he went out immediately, without picking carefully.
I hummed lightly.
WAIT—
“He just grabbed one. Also—he's supposed to come to me! So I can allow the quest!”
I widen my eyes.
“Oh, damn it—ahh~”
I frown and sigh deeply.
…
“I hope I don't get fired…”
