Chapter 14 – Fellow worker

  "I..."

Caught red-handed while compining behind his back, Feng Yao was at a loss for words. After stammering for a while, she chose to remain silent.

It seemed she couldn't keep this job... What a pity, she had just told her mom everything was going well...

  The woman sighed almost inaudibly.

Unexpectedly, Yan Feng frowned and asked, "I'm talking to you. You didn't have to work overtime today, so why are you still here?"

  "Huh?"

Feng Yao was puzzled but timidly chose to answer.

"Because... because the proposal you asked me to revise isn't done yet..."

Her voice grew softer, like a child on the verge of tears. Unfortunately, her boss wasn't the type to show sympathy and said discontentedly:

"Even if you haven't finished, you shouldn't work overtime!"

"Besides, interns don't get paid for overtime. You should go home on time."

"What?" Feng Yao was stunned, unable to comprehend his logic. What puzzled her even more was that Yan Feng then spped a proposal onto her desk.

His long fingers flipped through the printed A4 pages, revealing the proposal she had worked on. The difference was that almost every page was marked with red pen, highlighting issues and providing suggestions and solutions.

It was incredibly detailed, more meticulous than any teacher's corrections. Such work couldn't have been done in a short time. Could it be...

Feng Yao gnced at the time. It was 10 PM. Could her boss have spent all this time correcting it?

  "What are you daydreaming about!?"

At that moment, the man's voice interrupted her thoughts. He knocked on the table and said harshly, "I spent an entire afternoon and half the evening correcting this for you. This is your only chance, so take it seriously and read it carefully!"

  Feng Yao: "..."

Looking at the proposal filled with red marks, the handwriting was elegant, not something a man would typically write. He was also quite handsome... No, no, why was she getting distracted again!?

After seriously reviewing her proposal, Feng Yao felt a bit ashamed. She had just told her mother she was busy perfecting it, yet there were still so many issues she hadn't noticed. It was indeed her fault...

"Do you understand the problems now?" Yan Feng asked at that moment.

"Yes... I understand..." She felt immensely guilty, not daring to look up at his cold, handsome face.

But unexpectedly, he sternly criticized her again:

"Understand? You don't understand at all!"

Yan Feng pointed at his watch and said, "It's already 10 PM. The proposal was meant to test your abilities, not for you to finish in one go. The biggest mistake is working overtime during your internship without pay!"

Feng Yao stood there, stunned, taking about 30 seconds to process before thinking to herself:

"Is this boss crazy? He doesn't want overtime pay, yet he's so worked up?"

And that wasn't all. This seemingly handsome but brainless boss insisted she get up immediately to catch the bus, seriously saying she might miss the st one and promising to settle the overtime pay tomorrow, urging her to go home quickly???

The surprise came too suddenly. Before she could fully grasp it, she was half-forced out of the company and on her way home.

As night fell and the city lights flickered, the distance from the company to the bus stop wasn't far. She walked and pondered along the way.

For some reason, Feng Yao suddenly recalled a Chinese literature lesson from her school days, "Mr. Fujino," where the teacher bore an uncanny resembnce to Yan Feng in some aspects.

Finally seated on the st bus, watching the trees blur past, she took out her phone and sent a message to her mother:

"Mom... actually, the boss isn't that bad..."

  Meanwhile, in the office.

Yan Feng watched the woman leave and sighed.

Why was he so kind to his subordinates?

The answer was simple: because he wasn't the boss at all!

The real company owner was Gu Qing!

They were all employees, so why make things difficult for each other? Since they were on the same team and within the contract's limits, why not ensure employees leave on time and get paid for overtime?

  Wasn't he benefiting too!?

After all, if there were losses, it wouldn't be his problem. There was that wealthy, zy woman with her unfathomable family background to take the bme. But under his management, the company hadn't suffered any losses so far.

Yan Feng y on the small office bed, staring at the dim ceiling, reflecting on the day's events.

He had already informed Chen Xi that he'd sleep in the office tonight. Sending the new employee home was just because it was dark, and a young girl wandering outside might encounter danger. If something happened, it would be bad.

With these thoughts, he turned over and fell asleep peacefully.

  The next day.

Feng Yao cheerfully arrived at work, chatting with colleagues about their handsome and kind boss.

"Oh, you're talking about Brother Feng," Sister Li waved her hand and said, "He's like that. He talks tough but is soft-hearted. As long as you don't affect the company's performance, he's easy to talk to."

Hearing this, Wang Wenxin, at the desk next to Sister Li, recalled Old Zhuang limping out of the office a few days ago and shivered.

"Really?" Feng Yao was still skeptical. "Is our boss really that nice?"

"Of course," Sister Li continued pying her hybrid version of Pnts vs. Zombies, saying, "Just make sure not to cause trouble for the company. Don't give him any headaches during work, or the consequences will be serious."

As she spoke, she gnced at her watch and continued, "You see, it's not work time yet, so Brother Feng is just Brother Feng. But once work starts, he becomes a work machine, extremely terrifying."

"And there's one more thing I need to remind you," Sister Li turned off her computer game, faced Feng Yao, and said, "You might not know since you're new, but our company's boss isn't Brother Feng."

  "What? Not Yan Feng?"

Feng Yao was bewildered and asked, "If it's not him, then who?"

Sister Li chuckled, pointing to the two people behind her, and said, "Look, the one under his arm is the boss."

Hearing this, Feng Yao turned to see the man arriving, dragging a woman who was crying and struggling.

"Ahhh!!! Murder! The little madman is murdering me!" Gu Qing didn't care about her image, wriggling like an eel but unable to escape the man's grip.

"Shut up!" Yan Feng scolded, "Sleeping in te in the morning, hurry up and sign the contract with me!"
