(Third Person Narrative - Underground Lakeshore)
It was very quiet in the softly glowing cave after Azahel finished his story. Leon and Aena stood still, thinking about the long history, the betrayal, and the sadness they just heard. The Dragon God's words told a story so big and sad it was hard to understand completely.
Aena looked up at the giant, chained being, her heart hurting for him. Finding her courage, she spoke, her voice very quiet in the big cave. "Great Azahel... is there anything...? Do you know how the chains... how you might be freed?" It felt like a small, maybe naive question considering his old power and sadness, but she really wanted to help this forgotten creator.
Azahel breathed out slowly, making a sound like wind in old, empty places. "FREEDOM..." his voice sounded very tired. "THERE ARE ONLY TWO WAYS I CAN SEE. ONE IS MY SLOW FADING AWAY... MY 'DEATH,' AS YOU HUMANS MIGHT SAY. WHEN MY POWER HAS SPREAD OUT OVER THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF YEARS, AND THIS BODY DISAPPEARS. THE OTHER WAY IS IF THE POWER OF THE SACRED FIVE GOES AWAY COMPLETELY." He shook his giant head slowly. "I FEAR THAT IS... NOT LIKELY. THEY HAVE GATHERED SO MANY BELIEVERS OVER THE YEARS. THAT WORSHIP FEEDS THEM, MAKING THEM STRONG AGAIN AND AGAIN. IT MAKES THEM ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO WEAKEN. AND RIGHT NOW, NO ONE IN ETERNEA IS STRONG ENOUGH TO FIGHT EVEN ONE OF THEM, LET ALONE ALL FIVE."
"So," Aena whispered, her shoulders dropping a little, "only fading away... only death..."
Leon stepped closer, looking straight at the old god. "How does that work, Mighty Azahel? How can you truly fade? Is it just... waiting?"
"YES," Azahel agreed. "IT IS A LONG, PAINFUL WAIT. I CAN'T BE KILLED IN THE USUAL WAYS, AND I CAN'T END MY LIFE WHILE I'M TIED UP LIKE THIS."
Leon felt very sad for the creator god. Stuck, hurting, and not able to get free. "That's... truly sad," Leon said, and he really meant it. "To not be able to end your suffering or escape this prison." He looked at Aena, then back at Azahel. "It's not much, but... we wish we could offer some comfort. Would it... would it be alright if we came closer, my lord?"
A little warmth showed in Azahel's old eyes. "YES. THAT WOULD BE... NICE."
Slowly, not sure at first, Leon and Aena went closer to the giant dragon. Reaching out, they gently leaned against his huge, chained leg. The scales felt smooth, some cool, some strangely warm, buzzing with deep, hidden power.
The moment Aena's hand touched him fully, Azahel stopped moving completely. His ancient senses, sharp from long, long ago, felt something strange. A connection. A small spark inside Aena, new but full of hidden potential, something that felt... like it fit. Something that could maybe, just maybe, hold a small piece of his huge power without being hurt. A bold and risky idea started deep in his old mind. A chance, even a small one, for things to be different.
His eyes softened just a little bit. "THANK YOU FOR YOUR KINDNESS, BOTH OF YOU," Azahel rumbled, his voice getting a bit stronger. "NOW... TELL ME ABOUT YOU. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE FOUND MY OLD PRISON."
Leon and Aena looked at each other, and Leon began their story. He told him he was the second prince of Avalor, how his studies made him doubt the Sacred Five, and how he met Aena. He spoke of their time together and how they fell in love, leaving out the details of what Aena used to do in the castle, like she asked. He described how things were with the leaders after his father, the king, died – the groups of nobles and church leaders wanting power saw him as either a bother or someone they could control. He spoke of his dear older brother, Crown Prince Leis, who understood Leon's problems and secretly helped them escape, knowing it was the only way to keep Leon safe, even if it meant leaving Leis to deal with the court alone. Leon said he worried about his brother, but knew that with him gone, Leis's place as the next king was safe, making sure the family stayed royal.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
Then he told about their hard weeks running away, escaping town after town, always having the nobles' soldiers find them just when they thought they were safe. They were so desperate they went towards the scary Lockhart Forest, hoping the dangers would stop people chasing them. But they were trapped near the edge, ran into the cave, got lost deeper inside, and then fell... ending up here, at the very center of the world.
When their story was done, Azahel nodded slowly. "SO, YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A SAFE PLACE. A HOME."
"Yes, Great Azahel," Leon agreed. "And... if it's okay to ask... we would ask for your permission. Could we maybe live here, in the forest above this cave?"
Azahel tilted his head, acting like he was thinking, though his mind was already working on his possible plan. "HMMMM... THE FORBIDDEN FOREST OF LOCKHART..." his voice sounded like he was thinking hard. "IT'S CALLED THAT FOR A REASON, YOUNG ONES. MY... SADNESS... HAS MADE MANY DANGEROUS CREATURES THAT LIVE THERE. HOW WOULD YOU SURVIVE?" Even trapped, his link to Eternea gave him a small idea of the world above, like feeling small hints about how it was through the world's power.
Leon looked the dragon in the eyes, his face firm, Aena standing strong next to him. "We would manage. We can keep ourselves safe."
Azahel saw the strong will in their eyes. That was enough. "VERY WELL," he announced. "I WILL ALLOW YOU TO LIVE IN THE FOREST ABOVE, IF YOU AGREE TO THESE RULES."
Leon and Aena listened very carefully.
"FIRST," Azahel went on, "YOU WILL VISIT ME HERE. ONE DAY EACH WEEK, UNTIL YOUR CHILD IS BORN. IF YOU DO, I SHALL GRANT YOU BOTH MY BLESSING. A KIND OF SAFETY. THE MONSTERS OF THE FOREST WILL NOT HARM YOU OR THOSE WITH YOU, UNLESS YOU ATTACK THEM FIRST. ALSO, I GIVE YOU THE POWER TO SHARE THIS BLESSING WITH OTHERS YOU THINK ARE GOOD ENOUGH TO BUILD A TOWN SAFE BECAUSE OF ME. YOU WILL TELL THEM THE TRUTH OF THIS WORLD, THE TRUTH YOU LEARNED HERE."
Leon and Aena looked at each other, surprised. A safe place, kept safe by the creator himself!
"SECOND," Azahel's eyes looked towards Aena's belly, "YOU WILL LET ME GIVE MY BLESSING TO THE CHILD YOU CARRY. EACH WEEK WHEN YOU VISIT, I WILL ADD TO IT. I PROMISE THIS BLESSING WILL HELP YOUR CHILD GROW STRONG, TOUGH, AND BECOME THE BEST THEY CAN BE."
The couple felt hope, fear, excitement, and worry all at once. The first two rules were amazing gifts, much better than they ever thought possible. But what was the third rule?
"AND THIRD..." Azahel stopped, letting them wait. "...I WILL TELL YOU THE THIRD RULE AFTER THE CHILD IS BORN."
They looked at each other again. It was trusting without knowing everything, trusting a trapped god people forgot. But the other choice was to keep running away from danger. The blessings meant safety for them, their future child, and maybe others too. Nodding firmly, Leon turned back to Azahel.
"We accept your conditions, Great Azahel," Leon said strongly. Aena nodded beside him. "We promise to be loyal to you."
A deep rumble, like a pleased sound, came from Azahel's chest. "THEN IT IS DONE." A soft light filled the cave for a moment, covering Leon and Aena, soaking into them. It felt warm, calming, like a safe shield forming around them. "THAT IS THE BLESSING OF SANCTUARY."
He then lowered his giant head closer to Aena. "NOW... FOR THE FIRST OF MANY BLESSINGS FOR THE CHILD." Gently, carefully, the tip of one huge claw reached out and lightly tapped Aena's belly. A bright spot of light flashed at the touch, beat once, and then went into her, disappearing inside. Aena breathed in quickly, feeling warmth and energy spread through her, making her feel less tired.
(First Person POV - Vince)
Whoa! That was intense! The steady trickle of energy I'd been handling suddenly turned into a tidal wave! Pure energy, warm and incredibly strong, slamming into me from... somewhere else? Felt connected to the Dragon God's voice. I heard him mention a blessing... for me?
This new energy was powerful, yeah, making me stronger, but there was just so much of it! It felt like trying to swallow a river – way too much to handle easily. I absolutely had to get this under control, absorb it without falling apart. I focused harder than ever, trying to stay calm, working to contain and process the massive power flooding into me. Gotta hold on... gotta keep myself together until I'm born...
Then, cutting through that huge rush of energy, I heard the Dragon God's voice again. But it didn't sound far away this time. Felt... closer. Sounding right inside my head, clear as anything.
"Let's meet soon, young one."
