Should he talk to them or should he sneak up to them and find out things in secret?
Lie Mo is still somewhat afraid of being discovered because of the Cultivator he killed. Only a year has passed since then. Who knows how many people are walking around in this forest? Perhaps every suspicious person is observed.
Because of that he sneaks up to them.
After a day of observing them he hasn’t found out much. They only talk about their daily live. Even the village chief and the women.
No village name, no close by city, nothing. It’s kind of obvious that they won’t speak about this stuff. Those villages deep in the forest are really isolated and often don’t even have names.
After not finding out anything in such a short amount of time his options increased.
Talk to them, continue observing until something happens, force something to happen, like a best group attack, or just follow the road.
In the end the most quiet way is to just follow the road. And that is what Lie Mo did. He didn’t pass any travelers, but there were several villages around.
He observed each one of them for a day.

By now he can mimic the different accents of the villages. The accents have surprisingly big differences. Lie Mo already knew it, but after such a long time he mostly forgot those kinds of things.
After around the third village or so Lie Mo had a good idea. He created a sword out of wood. It didn’t have to be good. He could reinforce it with qi after all. But He needed something to train all those sword manuals.
He didn’t make a bow since he didn’t know how to make one.
At the eleventh village was a caravan. That was great because this is the first time he could hear some actual gossip.
Thanks to that caravan he found out that he was walking into the wrong direction. This direction goes all the way up into a remote mountain range. And the other direction goes to some city.
Because of that Lie Mo turns around. There aren’t many humans on remote mountain ranges after all.
Lie Mo reaches the city around midsummer.
This city is surrounded by forests. The village density is a bit higher, but it can’t be called civilization.
There is no inn around where he can enter. All of them require registration or an entry fee. And both of those things are something Lie Mo tries to avoid. So he has nothing left to do besides staying at the side of the road listening to the people walking by.
Even though this approach seems boring, it bore fruits after a while. He finds out that two of the roads leave the forest. And outside of the forest is a lot of fields, villages and cities.
The more people there are the less likely it is for him to look suspicious.
In the end he chooses the left one and just goes on.
This journey was another one and a half months. And close to the forest border the villages start to appear more regularly.
In the last few days it is several per day.
Finally, he leaves the wild hills.
