Translators Preface

  Translator's Preface

  Dear Reader,

The following text is a historical account by Arcanist Igni, transcribed from the world-visions. While we call it a translation, it is not the same as translating between two Earth languages. As some of you may know, words — in the form of sounds or characters — cannot cross the boundary between worlds. So, a brief explanation of my method is in order.

The main challenge lies in the names. Of a name, we know only an impression: its length, how common it is, how harsh or soft it sounds. Occasionally, we know the literal meaning — e.g., "the Beauty" or "the Defender" — but this is rare. Therefore, I have avoided both literal translations and familiar Earth names. Instead, I have aimed to capture the tone and feel of the original names through sound. This method has its flaws, but it is what it is.

If you find this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the infringement.

For titles and ranks, I have used their common equivalents, such as "sergeant" or "arcanist." The analogy is not always perfect, and I have added notes where needed for clarity.

Character speech reflects social class: more formal for the upper classes, more casual for the lower. This is not meant to suggest a modern setting.

I hope you enjoy the read.

  Sincerely,

  Your Translator
