The alarm went off at exactly 7:00 AM.
Ren groaned, blindly hitting the snooze button to avoid having to wake up. The bed was warm, and with the realisation of having to face yet another Monday, he rolled around to get another 10 minutes of half sleep.
KABOOM!
A loud scream echoed from the hallway, followed by the unmistakable sound of someone running up the stairs.
”REN! I—I think I killed the toaster!”
That was his twin sister.
He sighed. “How did you manage to kill a damn toaster?”
Dragging himself out of bed like a zombie rising from a grave, he quickly put on a pair of fresh clothes, and opened the door. Standing right before him in elephant slippers, puffed up hair, and a slice of toast so dark it made the night shine in comparison, was Rem—his sister. Better known as my total opposite.

“It trampled on my feelings!” She said while pouting, holding up the ruined toast like it was something sacred. “I just wanted it to be a little crispy!”
“You sure you didn’t want charcoal?”
Ignoring her gasp of offense, Ren walked past her and went downstairs. The kitchen smelled vaguely of burnt bread. The toaster sat on the counter, with smoke still coming from it. “That idiot, she didn’t even turn it off.”
After he was done cleaning up after his sister, Ren grabbed one of yesterday’s freshly baked cookies. Not much of a breakfast, but he wasn’t about to tamper with anything Rem might have touched.
7:15 AM.
Plenty of time to kill before school. He had over an hour before it started, so Ren decided to leave early and go for a jog.
He looked at himself in the hallway mirror. Black hoodie, the usual messy hair, and dark circles that never seemed to go away no matter how much he slept.
“Ren! You didn’t say goodbye to me!”
Rem stood in the doorway, looking at him with eyes about to burst into tears as if the world was going to end.
He sighed and waved. “Bye, Rem.”
She grinned like a cheshire cat. “I’ll follow soon, so go to our usual spot, and we’ll go to school together!”
Ren smiled softly. “I’ll be waiting.”
