Chapter 2: The Toy Sword

The man in front of me looked completely different from the one I saw outside the elevator. Back in that strange world, he was insanely handsome—like a movie star from a war epic. But now? He looked like a butcher from the wet market.

Still, I was sure it was him—Treloslan.

I had so many questions, but my brain was blank. Maybe he saw it on my face, because he didn’t wait for me to speak. He handed me what looked like a cheap toy lightsaber from a dollar store.

“This should be enough to hold them off until tomorrow,” he said casually. “Come find me after school. Don’t be late.”

Then he glanced at the sky and added, “It's getting late. You should head home.”

Back in front of my apartment elevator, I hesitated. I was seriously thinking about taking the stairs. Then five people walked in ahead of me, chatting away like normal. I told myself I was just being paranoid and followed them in.

  Big mistake.

The elevator started moving, then suddenly jolted. Again.

Before I could react, the five people turned into ghouls—snarling, pale, eyes burning like coals. They stared right at me.

  I almost burst into tears.

And then, suddenly, I felt something in my hand.

  The toy sword.

"This plastic thing is gonna save me?!" I yelled.

Right then, the toy glowed and morphed into a real blade—a katana.

I didn’t think. I just started swinging wildly, screaming the whole time.

  The ghouls evaporated like smoke.

Panting, I looked up and saw:

Then I blinked—and the elevator was normal again. Five regular people. No one even looked at me.

They got off at their floors, one by one.

I stumbled home in a daze. The smell of fish soup hit my nose before I opened the door.

  Mom was already waiting.

“Stayed out late with your friends again?” she smiled.

I saw her face—and burst into tears.

She hugged me tight. “Silly boy. Come eat.”
