Chapter 05

Zenis pushed the body of the bandit and made it roll to his side of the summit, but soon it stopped. While he kept his eyes on the camp, he checked the body of the guy… he was one of the skinny ones, so he only had two daggers as weapons. They were of low quality, so he couldn’t even sell them. He had some silver coins, though.

“Thank you for your generous donation. I usually don’t accept money from bandits, but I will make an exception this time,” Zenis whispered and made the body roll down the mountain. “Have fun in the afterlife of this world.”

Speaking of afterlife, Zenis wondered what would happen if the ruler of that area of the universe learned that he was there, he didn’t know all the rulers, and overlords, but they probably will be angry if they learn that their planet became part of a game to the Star-Kings.

“Well, this is a problem to deal with after this round… back to the business,” Zenis thought and studied the enemies again. “It might take a while for them to realize that one of them vanished, if they notice at all. I got a level, but I guess saving the points until it is absolutely necessary will be the best option.”

Just as Zenis had expected, the bandits didn’t notice anything. They were stupid and drunk enough for two others to approach Zenis in the same way and then die in the same manner as the first before some of the bandits finally realized that three of them had disappeared after going to take a piss. Still, only three of them went to the area to check what had happened.

“They probably think that their friends slipped or something due to alcohol. This place has no monsters or beasts, so that would explain most things,” Zenis thought. “Anyway, no point in delaying that any longer.”

Zenis leveled up two times, so he had ten points to use. He allocated half of them into strength and the other half in dexterity. He immediately felt his body getting a bit lighter and the grip on his spear getting better.

When the enemies reached the summit, they felt the smell of blood on the ground thanks to the fact that the bodies left them and then immediately went to grab their weapons, but then all of a sudden, a shadow nearby moved and then they felt something passing and touching their necks. Two of the bandits had their throats sliced, but the last one used his hand to block the attack. He lost some fingers thanks to it, but he escaped the attack and rolled toward his camp while the others moved in the opposite direction.

“They are all giving the same amount of experience. Is this a bug of the system?” Zenis muttered.

Aien and Herneus created the system to give a fair amount of experiences while they were fighting, but maybe it was too efficient thanks to their true nature… or maybe it was an issue with the world there, maybe people naturally could get stronger by killing each other. That was a bit hard to imagine since those two villages didn’t have that kind of bloody history… apparently.

Regardless, the survivor went to alert their friends while shouting, but Zenis didn’t mind that much. He knew that things would become like that, even if he killed the three enemies or not.

The whole camp began to arm themselves and those who were drunk soon regained their focus. They messed up, but they couldn’t mess up again.

Around thirty of them climbed the path while they were ready to strike anything and anyone. They were being really cautious… When they reached the top, they found the rock that the survivor had mentioned and began to stab it… it didn’t take long for them to notice that they were just stabbing the bodies of one of their allies.

While they were doing that, they didn’t notice some of them were grunting in agony thanks to the fact that Zenis was on the other side and stabbing the enemies from behind. The sound of their shouts and attacks made them unable to do so. When they noticed what was going on, Zenis had killed ten of them already.

“Woah, if incompetence was a crime…” Zenis thought when the first few enemies turned around to face him.

Zenis wasn’t expecting much from mortals that lived so far for only twenty or thirty years, and bandits don’t tend to stand out thanks to their sharp brains. Still, that was shocking.

When the first few enemies turned around, Zenis hit their faces with the gas bombs. The smell of charcoal and pepper spread across the area, and those close enough began to cough violently. The others moved away while covering their mouths and noses. That only gave Zenis the chance to finish off their allies with ease, since his mouth and nose were covered with a piece of cloth already. His eyes were burning a little, but he endured that, while slicing the enemi’s thrust and increasing his Dexterity at the same time.

  “Kill this midget, now!”

“Hey, my true form. I am taller than you,” Zenis thought, but then he forgot about it when the enemies threw some of their spears at him.

The enemies unleashed a volley of deadly spears, hurtling through the air toward Zenis. The moonlight reflected off the sharpened tips, briefly illuminating their trajectory. Time seemed to slow as the spears sliced through the air, their whistling sound echoing through the area.

Instinct and a surge of adrenaline guided Zenis’ movements. With agility and grace, he evaded the impending doom, his body weaving and dancing through the hail of projectiles. Each dodge was executed with precision, as he leaned and twisted, narrowly avoiding the lethal points that sought to pierce his flesh. He imagined that he would need to do that eventually. That was why he increased his dexterity… Still, he suffered some scratches since his precision wasn’t high enough.

The enemies that threw the spears tried to grab the weapons of their fallen allies and while the others, armed with swords and daggers, tried to surround Zenis. However, he dashed forward, much to their surprise, and stabbed the enemies that tried to grab the spears.

The other bandits advanced at the same time, but Zenis kicked the butt of the spears on the ground and then made them pierce the legs of the enemies in front of him. While they flinched, he approached and stabbed their heads with a barrage of thrusts.

“He is here! He is here! Send everyone!”

That was the second time he heard the same person giving the order. It seemed like the leader of the group… Unfortunately, Zenis was too busy to look for that guy who was hiding behind the others specially, moreover, he began to hear the footsteps and shouts of more bandits climbing the hill between them and the camp.

“Please form a line and be patient. Everyone will have their turn,” Zenis declared and then threw some gas bombs to the other side of the summit.

It didn’t take long for him to hear grunts and coughs on the other side. That delayed their advance for a bit… The bandits nearby clicked their tongue when they concluded that and then charged all at once.

“You should have done that with the spearmen, or wait, I killed them first,” Zenis thought and then jumped when the enemies swung their swords at him.

Soon afterward, Zenis spun in the air while pointing his spear at the enemi’s heads. Half of them had their throats sliced and while the others either lost their eyes or suffered deep wounds on their faces.

It looked like Zenis tried too hard to do something that was natural for him, while his body wasn’t strong enough. In the end, he landed while feeling a bit dizzy, but he still charged and stabbed the wounded enemies on their faces and finished them off. Only one, the one who was giving orders, was alive, but the asshole was moving away from Zenis. He grabbed a spear from the ground, but then he noticed that some of the other enemies had finally climbed the summit and threw the spears at him as well.

Using both weapons, Zenis blocked the projectiles and let the impacts push him backward and down the mountain. Their leader was trying to escape in the same direction, after all.

When the bandits noticed what Zenis was planning, they charged at him and stopped the throws, but Zenis turned around faster and used the moment of the slope to ski on the path. At the same time, he fixed his stance and prepared to throw one of the spears at the running bandit leader.

The poor bastard was unlucky enough to turn around just when the weapon was about to pierce his head… Zenis wasn’t merciful enough to wish a painless death to assholes, but he wondered if that happened.

(You unsealed the skill Heavy Throw.)

  (You obtained 300 experience points.)

(Heavy Throw: a skill where you can throw a spear or another weapon at the enemy. The closer the enemy is, the more damage they will suffer.)

Although he was the most cowardly, the enemy actually gave the most experience. Maybe it was because he was the one who controlled the bandits completely, or commanded.

Despite the fact that their leader fell with a spear on their heads, the bandits still charged at Zenis with all their might. In the end, they smirked when Zenis tried to grab some bombs on his waist, but he found nothing. He showed a look of surprise that made the enemies smirk, but soon he smiled.

“What a bunch of simpletons,” Zenis smiled and then he took a massive pack of numerous bombs attached together on his back. They didn’t show it because it was hidden under a cloak that he found in the village.

The enemies tried to stop their charge, but Zenis threw the bombs right in the middle of them. A massive cloud of dust, charcoal and smashed pepper spread around and enveloped them, the whole group.

The enemies tried to move away from it, but they ended up colliding with each other and falling over each other… Zenis had an easy time finishing them off.

“I guess I overestimated them… they are just mortals and bandits, at that, they aren’t proper warriors,” Zenis muttered while looking at the numerous bodies around him five minutes later.
