38: Susie

  38

  Susie

  Christian wasn’t at graduation.

Everyone shared goodbyes, got a heads up to the various parties people were having, talking about college sleepovers and orientations. Not a care in the world for so many of our classmates.

Christian didn’t have any reason to pretend to care about this world anymore, he didn’t have any reason to try and become something here. He had what he wanted, he had more then enough gold to live in comfort for the rest of his life, and worse than that, he had his bride. He literally trafficked a bride for himself. He ripped this girl from the only world she’s ever known, and then he filled her head with nonsense and in my opinion, did everything he could to rush the symptoms of Stockholm syndrome into her psyche.

Do you see it now? Do you understand why I hate this pathetic excuse for a man so much? He gave up on the real world, and just fully indulged this horrible, messed up fantasy he had built for himself. That whole relationship was a lie. I don’t give a damn that he wasn’t the one who was supposed to wake her. The whole system of Princes finding their Princesses Somewhere Else always made me uncomfortable. One heroic deed and you get rewarded with a bride on your arm. You’re not supposed to be a hero just to expect rewards, that’s the whole point of being a hero, you do something because it’s right not because you’ll be rewarded.

It may have been right, what Christian did, yes people could argue that he did save her but he didn’t do it out of the kindness of his heart, he didn’t do it because it was right. He only did it because he knew he would be rewarded. If any of the actions you read about Christian doing somewhere else make you think he’s some kind of hero, know that he wasn’t acting out of the goodness of his heart, he was always after something. He didn’t save people to save people, he saved people to be rewarded.

That girl, Briar, that poor girl. She was nothing more than a reward to him. A pat on the back for a job well done. I don’t understand how he could say he loved her so. How can a man love a prize, a thing, that’s what she was to him, she was his prize for doing what he thought was the right thing.

Cody found me after the cap turning ceremony, I was busy saying bye to my ignorant friends and promising I would be at their houses for their graduation parties.

If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

  “Christian texted me,” he said.

“Oh? And how is the happy couple?” I said, scolding in my voice and my eyes rolling.

“He invited me, us, to his new place,” Cody said.

“His new place?” I gritted my teeth, “And where, pray tell, is his new place?” I asked.

“Omaha, he found an apartment, actually more of a condo really. He got out of the house, said they needed their space if they’re going to-”

“Going to what? Fuck like rabbits, that poor girl is just going to give up her body to him after just one kiss?” I asked, god I was so angry then, I’m still angry about it in fact.

“I know it’s a lot to take in, but maybe if we talk with him we can see if he’s happy, if she’s happy, you heard how much he loves her, he’s going to do everything in his power to make her happy,” Cody said.

“Fine, I have a lot to say to him, I have so much to say to him,” I said.

“Susie, this is complicated, I’ll give you that. But maybe they can have a life here. I know you have a big problem with what he did-”

“Oh, what he did? You mean the human trafficking? The fact that he pulled a Sex Slave from everything she knows just so she can be his own personal fuck-doll?”

“He doesn’t look at her like that, and you know he doesn’t, he loves her,” Cody said, resting a hand on my shoulder.

I pulled away from him, “He doesn’t love her, he doesn’t even know her. He loves her story. They’ve been together for, what has it been, a week almost? How can you love someone you’ve only known for less than a week?” I asked through gritted teeth.

“Listen, I know you hate what he did, but it’s kind of on us. We pushed him to a place of desperation and In that desperation he-”

“Don’t lie to me,” I interrupted him again, “We didn’t push him to anything, I did,” I said, looking up at Cody, “I pushed him to this, I’m the one guilty for this and you can’t even imagine how much it weighs on me that because of what I forced him to do, he goes and does something like this,” I said, “We’ll go to his place, let’s see what kind of life he’s giving his precious Briar Rose,” I shook my head, “She doesn’t have ID, how can she even get one. She’s got no social security number, no birth certificate. Christian said she had nothing in her world, well guess what, she has nothing in this one either. There’s no way they can make a life together, hell, even if he does marry her how are they going to put that in any public records. Cody, I think you don’t understand just how fucked what Christian did was,” I said.

“It is fucked, I know, I know it is, that’s why we need to talk to Christian. We need to at least find out what his plan is if he’s going to live with her. He has almost half a million dollars at his disposal. If anyone can figure out how to give Briar a life here it would be him,” Cody said.

Here I am, standing in my second most comfortable pair of heels, cap on my head, my tassel turned. Here I am in a moment that should be one the highlights of my life, with a man who should be one of the most important men of my life and we’re just debating over that gas lighting piece of shit. God damn you Christian. I’ll say it again, God damn you.
