*Chapter 35: The Haunted Mansion Murder Mystery (Part 28)

The deceased's family was quite wealthy.

This was evident from their living environment, but the true extent of their wealth was revealed when they saw the vault.

The vault was filled with several boxes of gold—truly impressive.

After circling around, Qin Weiyi frowned slightly. He had seen the opulence of the vault, but where were the clues? The vault had just opened at this moment, so there must be something significant here, yet after a round, he found nothing.

"It seems there’s nothing unusual here," Zheng Jueming spoke up again, glancing at Lin Junru. "Junru, did you find anything?"

  Lin Junru shook her head.

After receiving Lin Junru's response, Zheng Jueming turned to Qin Weiyi. "What about you?"

Qin Weiyi also shook his head.

"Should we change locations then?" Zheng Jueming suggested.

Qin Weiyi chuckled. "You seem particularly proactive today."

Zheng Jueming paused for a moment but quickly laughed. "Being proactive is only natural, right? In a place like this, you can’t rely on anyone; you can only trust yourself."

Qin Weiyi raised an eyebrow but didn't refute Zheng Jueming's words.

One shouldn't solely depend on others; Qin Weiyi naturally believed in relying on oneself. However, Zheng Jueming's previous actions did not reflect this. His change in attitude only confirmed Qin Weiyi's suspicions.

  But evidence was lacking.

There had to be something significant in the vault.

"How about we split up?" Qin Weiyi proposed. "The vault only opened in the third round; it can't just be for us to take a stroll. If you think there are no clues here, you can leave first."

Without waiting for Zheng Jueming's response, Qin Weiyi continued to wander around the vault.

Zheng Jueming's expression faltered for a moment but quickly returned to a smile. "Let’s stick together."

  Qin Weiyi wasn't surprised.

His reaction further proved the vault's unusualness, but where exactly was the problem?

Qin Weiyi's mind began to race, his gaze sweeping over every corner of the vault, not missing a single inch. After what felt like an eternity, his eyes finally landed on a specific spot.

He stepped forward and picked up a box of gold.

"What's up?" Lu Jing followed him, asking.

Qin Weiyi's gaze scanned the boxes of gold before he smirked. "What do you think of these boxes of gold?"

Lu Jing looked confused. "They're quite extravagant?"

Qin Weiyi smiled but said nothing.

At that moment, Zheng Jueming noticed them and his expression changed, though he tried to maintain his composure as he approached. "Did you find something?"

Qin Weiyi shook his head. "No, it seems I miscalculated. Let's change locations." With that, he took the lead to exit, and Lu Jing immediately followed.

  Zheng Jueming frowned.

Qin Weiyi's earlier reaction made him clench his fists, feeling a bit anxious.

"Jueming, why are you dawdling? Let’s go," Lin Junru called out to him.

Zheng Jueming snapped back to reality, responding quickly as he hurried after them.

The third round of evidence collection soon concluded, and the ten players gathered again in the main hall.

"The cause of the third young master's death was swallowing gold," Xia Zheqin stated as he entered, getting straight to the point. He then looked at Qin Weiyi. "Did you find anything in the vault?"

The cause of death being swallowing gold and the vault just having opened suggested a possible connection.

Qin Weiyi replied, "Some gold is missing from the vault."

Lu Jing looked surprised but quickly regained his composure. No matter what Qin Weiyi said, he found it unsurprising. Lin Junru directly asked, "How do you know some gold is missing?"

"Quite simply. All the boxes were filled with gold, but one box was notably lower—about twenty pieces less than the others. This isn't just a matter of filling a box; it indicates that the murderer took those pieces of gold," Qin Weiyi explained.

Xia Zheqin nodded. "The murderer took the gold, and one of those pieces was used to kill the third young master."

The third young master died in his own courtyard, so why would the murderer appear there with gold?

Qin Nan subtly glanced at Mu Xin.

If the murderer was assumed to be Zheng Jueming, then after stealing the gold from the vault, he likely went to find the third young mistress, intending to take her away. It was quite possible that he encountered the third young master on the way, who would naturally try to stop him, leading the murderer to kill him instead.

  The logic was sound.

  But it wasn't enough.

"What about you guys?" Qin Weiyi asked, looking at Jian Fan.

Jian Fan pushed forward a book that contained information about resurrection.

Qin Weiyi took it first, glancing at its contents in confusion. "Who is Feng Xian?"

The book mentioned that Feng Xian died after giving birth, leaving Qin Weiyi unable to connect it with the other characters immediately.

"She is the mother of the eldest young lady," Qin Nan explained. "There’s a secret room in the father’s bedroom where Feng Xian's body is kept."

"He wanted to resurrect Feng Xian?" Qin Weiyi was shocked, then recalled his earlier experiences during the time rewind. Everything began to connect. He made an unexpected gesture, whistling. "Impressive!"

Qin Nan was observing everyone's expressions.

Lu Jing, who had been out of the loop, was taken aback but quickly regained his neutral expression, though his brows showed signs of conflict.

Xia Zheqin remained calm but slightly twitched his lips as if he found the situation somewhat absurd. Lin Junru looked completely bewildered.

On the other hand, the player representing the second young master appeared unfazed, seemingly already aware of this information. Xu Tian was slightly surprised for a moment but quickly returned to calm, likely having gathered some clues about the resurrection.

  Most importantly, Zheng Jueming.

He was not shocked; instead, he seemed somewhat absent-minded.

In terms of intelligence, Qin Nan admitted he couldn't match Jian Fan or Qin Weiyi, but he was confident in his understanding of human nature. He dared to say that Zheng Jueming's reaction was highly suspicious.

However, this still didn't explain why the accountant knew this secret.

Qin Nan began to ponder the clues they had gathered so far.

The items in Zheng Jueming's room suggested he wanted to poison the deceased. The red embroidered shoes might belong to his mother or his love interest, with the latter being more likely, linking the second young master and his love interest in a personal storyline.

The dagger in Jian Fan's room came from a sorcerer and was related to the resurrection, while the blood-stained panties were a gift from the eldest young lady, and the items in the second young lady's room seemed to be deliberately used to frame her. The other items in the players' rooms appeared to simply highlight each person's suspicions.

  So, what had they overlooked?

Suddenly, Qin Nan's eyes lit up.

  That strange ledger!
