Chapter 1
The Beginning of a New Era
Seti had just left the house and was running under the sun. Lucky for him, his sister had sent him to buy fish and corn bread at the very hour the sun was at its peak. Since the fateful day they had lost their parents, his sister had taken on the responsibility of the house. Tiye, his sister, had a nurturing nature by birth. Despite only being four years apart, Seti always felt there was a ten-year gap between them. She had always been far more mature and calm for her age. When Seti was still a little child, their parents would entrust him to Tiye while they worked in the market from dawn to dusk. Perhaps that was why Tiye had matured a bit earlier. After all, she had been taking care of her brother since she was seven. "Poor Tiye," Seti thought. She had been forced into the role of a mother while she was still just a child. She had always been the one to run to her brother’s side for anything he needed. And after that cursed day—the day the gods left Egypt—she had been forced to be both mother and father to him. Because, on the day Egypt’s gods left the great and beautiful land of the Nile, chaos erupted, and they too lost both of their parents. This made their already difficult life even harder, as they had to endure the pain of losing both parents while carrying the burden of feeding themselves. Since that day, Tiye had been struggling to support them by selling various pots in the market next to the Thebes temple. Seti, on the other hand, worked for a fisherman by the Nile River, and if he was lucky, he could bring home a few fish besides copper coins. He was only twelve, and Tiye was sixteen. Despite their young ages, they had grown used to this hard life. After all, they had no choice but to adapt. Because they were orphans.

Exhausted from running under the sun for minutes, Seti let himself fall onto a high wall overlooking the Nile River to rest. The pain in his legs and the shortness of breath made the hard wall feel surprisingly comfortable. He usually liked to run when he went somewhere, as it was one of the rare times his mind could wander. But this time, it hadn’t helped. No matter how fast he ran, he couldn’t escape his thoughts. It was as if the faster he forced himself to run, the faster his thoughts tried to catch up with him. With his hands resting on the upper part of the wall, he tried to gather his thoughts. It had been nearly two years since that cursed day, but Seti remembered every detail as if it had happened just yesterday. What was worse, even in the smallest moment of free time, that nightmare-like memory would flood back into his mind. While gazing at the calm view of the Nile, he had already drifted back into the memories of that fateful day...
