Chapter 25: System Failure

( System Message :) That isn’t important to get to reading. ;).

Jalen clenched his jaw. “All right, all right. I’m moving. What’s next?”

  Example:

  [Name: Obsidian Bastion]

  [Type: Field]

  [Subtype: Terrain, Summon]

  [Summoning Cost: 10 Mana]

  [Activation Cost: 7 Energy]

[Effect: Creates a fortified obsidian stronghold covering a 30-meter radius. The terrain shifts into blackened stone walls, forming a defensive perimeter with strategically placed battlements. At the start of each turn, summon a Lava Warden (2/2) at a random location within the Bastion. Lava Wardens persist until defeated or until the field is deactivated.]

[Additional Effect: If a fire-aligned creature or entity is within the field, they gain increased durability and resistance to physical attacks.]

Jalen scowled at the card details floating before him. 7 Energy. He barely had 1 per turn. Even if he did nothing but sit on his hands, he’d be an old man before hitting the activation cost.

He collapsed onto the ground, throwing his hands in the air dramatically. “My dreams… My dreams are officially out the window.”

(System Message :) Oh no, how tragic. Anyway…

  Jalen grits his teeth. “Unless…”

  (System Message :) No. Not.

He narrowed his eyes. “You don’t even know what I was about to—”

(System Message :) You were about to ask me to increase your energy cap artificially so you could summon a card that you don’t even own.

Jalen stiffened. “Okay, first of all, I—”

(System Message :) And second of all, you must be going all the way insane if you think I’d do that. You must be bored. Tell you what—once you finish your tasks, I’ll send you straight to the survival quest so you can be someone else’s problem. Also, by the way…

  46, 45, 44…

Jalen’s stomach dropped. “Wait, wait, wait—why is that still going?!”

  No response.

  The countdown continued.

Jalen got up from his kneeling position with no one there but a surprisingly snarky system to humor his antics. He got up dusting himself off before realizing he was acting off this wasn’t like his normal attitude. “ Wait, why am I acting like this Mom and Dad would have jumped across an ocean to shake some sense into me if they saw me acting like this.” Jalen shook his hand the system’s cold but somehow amused voice counting down in the background.

Do I get another example of a field card at least?

  (System Prompt FINAL

“The last help I’ll give you is some advice about your class. Cards can play different roles and most cards fall into at least two categories. It is easier to elevate a card if you have a common theme and stick to it with all cards so, each attempt will be easier. "

Make sure the object or concept has a connection with all three types because the work mana has to fill in forging cards or aspects that don’t match the weaker the card, and the higher the risk of failure. I will recommend objects like concepts that are easier to mold. ”. Once the countdown reaches zero you will be sent to the trial stages. You'll keep the puppet corpse and the blank cards with the trial stages.

Jalen sighed, his brain racing to process the system’s words. “Wait, so I’m getting kicked out of the trial? How does that happen? Do I just get blinked out of existence? Or—”

  (System Message: 12… 11… 10…)

“Oh, come on, at least answer before sending me to my doom!”

He barely had time to brace himself before a sharp tug at his core made his stomach lurch. The air around him rippled—like the world itself had been plucked and rewritten. A crushing weight pressed down on him, and the next thing he knew—

  THUD.

Jalen landed face-first on smooth, metallic flooring. He groaned, pushing himself up to his knees as the ringing in his ears subsided.

The room was a massive—circular, rocky cave, and lined with glowing runes along the walls.

As he pushed himself up he spotted a peculiar sight sticking out of the hardened ground a small tree. The tree was strange because it was made completely out of metal.

"That’s strange," Jalen murmured while inspecting the leaves of the tree. They were an unusual silver and seemed to reflect a non-existent moonlight, momentarily distracting him from the fact that he had just been kicked out of the trial by the system.

“Oh, it’s just like an actual tree,” Jalen said, poking one of the leaves, which swayed freely in response“That’s strange,” Jalen murmured, his brow furrowing as he examined the leaves of the tree before him. They shimmered with an otherworldly silver hue, reflecting a non-existent moonlight that cast an eerie glow in the dim surroundings. For a moment, he forgot all about being expelled from the trial by the system, captivated by the sight.

“Oh, it’s just like an actual tree,” he remarked, curiosity bubbling within him. He gently poked one of the leaves, watching in fascination as it swayed freely in response, almost as if it were alive. “But it’s made of metal and feels cold to the touch.” As Jalen attempted to pry the leaves apart for a closer investigation, he suddenly became aware of a presence hovering above him.

The man floating in the air met Jalen's gaze and grinned widely. “Hey, you pyromaniac dwarf! Looks like someone appreciates my art.” His voice boomed with a playful edge, echoing through the quiet space. Just at that moment, a massive block of flaming earth came crashing down, striking him with a force that illuminated the surroundings in fiery chaos, leaving Jalen in awe of the spectacle unfolding before him. "But it’s metal and feels cold to the touch." As he attempted to pull the leaves apart for science, he noticed a figure floating above him.

The man smiled when he caught Jalen staring. "Hey, you pyromaniac dwarf! Looks like someone appreciates my art." Just then, a giant block of flaming earth suddenly impacted him while he stood in the air.

As I stared in shock I heard a loud grating shout." Yes, I finally killed the bastard. Finally killed the bastard, Finally killed the bastard. In my vision, a dancing dwarf was hopping towards the explosion.

The dwarf sat and prayed I could hear the vague murmuring but I was still in shock. One because I knew that dwarf two because the man was still their he hadn't even moved a muscle. A redish -orange wall of energy was to his side where the meoter had impacted.

I guess I wasn't the only one to see it because the dwarf stopped praying, and began shouting. I'll kill you, you damn monster.

" Well my name is Adam, I'm the monster. The psychotic dwarf is bubbles. He is a little shy so be nice." The man's smile grew as his lip quivered.

"Jalen blinked at the bizarre scene unfolding before him. The dwarf—short, stocky, and radiating pure fury—had long forgotten his prayer and was now turning an alarming shade of red.

“That’s not my damn name, you walking catastrophe!” the dwarf bellowed, pointing an accusing finger at Adam. “It’s Bhorgrul! Bhor-grul! Not Bubbles, you cursed heap of rusted metal!”

Adam chuckled, unfazed by the dwarf’s rage. “Sounds like ‘Bubbles’ to me.” His grin widened as Bhorgrul’s face somehow deepened in color, veins practically pulsing with indignation.

Jalen, still trying to process the absurdity of it all, turned his gaze back to the metal tree, half-expecting it to start talking next. Instead, an assortment of different voices screamed.

"I don't think we are going to be able to kill them!" one voice yelled dramatically."

"Oh, you think so? What gave that away?" another voice replied angrily.

"Maybe the fact that we haven't landed a hit on any of them—mainly the floating metal man!"

Jalen turned toward the new commotion, spotting a ragtag group of fighters scrambling around the battlefield. A few of them were worse for wear—cuts, bruises, and exhaustion painted across their faces as they launched attacks at two other figures.

"Hey, newbie what is your class? The man floated down his eyes still locked on Jalen. What took so long we have been waiting here so long that they decided to attack us. I hope you do not have a strong or annoying class or the weakness squad will get you. "

" What do you mean also he looks familiar. Jalen asked in confusion.

"Who the dwarfs they all look sorta similar with the beards if you've seen one you have seen them all. Adam shrugged.

" No Ash is that you why are you here? Collin is that you?

Ash, a lanky young man with a perpetual look of exasperation, turned at the sound of his name. His short red hair was disheveled, and his clothes were torn in multiple places. The moment his gaze landed on Jalen, his already tired expression deepened into something far worse—resignation.

“Oh, for the love of—of course you’re here,” Ash groaned, rubbing his temples. “Great. Just great. As if today wasn’t already a nightmare.”

Collin, a burly fighter with a streak of mud across his cheek, turned as well, eyes widening in shock. “Jalen? You—what the hell are you doing here? You got kicked out of the trial too?”

Jalen’s brows furrowed. Too? He hadn’t even considered that possibility. “Wait, hold on. Did you guys get booted too? What did you do?"

“Oh, I don’t know,” Ash deadpanned, dodging a wild swing from one of their attackers. “Maybe not fit into whatever ridiculous expectations the system had. Or maybe it just hates us.”

" No, I am sure this is just another trial of the system is seemed different from before. Adam laid down vertically floating in the air like the fighting didn't concern him. Before the discussion could continue everyone heard an alert.
