Adventure 320 - Fulfilling Concert and a Pitfall of a Request

“So why isn’t Liam coming with us?” Omira asked as she looked at Ariyana, Artem, Avery, Blair, Gimmel, Mercer, and Roman.

The group had left together, walking towards the Entertainment Road section of the town to see the famous singer’s performance. Uncle Naro had checked in with them to see what their plans were shortly after dinner when Liam was still with them. To their surprise Uncle Naro had already gotten them tickets to the show, believing that Ariyana and Mercer would be able to get some inspiration from the performer as well.

At the time none of them knew Liam wasn’t going. So after Gimmel had informed them that he wasn’t they were left with a free ticket. However, none of them knew what was going on with Liam and why he want going, except for Gimmel. Everyone in the group had some suspicions about what he was doing but wasn’t going to ask. Omira, who didn’t know Liam as well as the others didn’t mind asking though.

Gimmel didn’t look at her, but did reply making the others shake their heads. “He said he wanted to take some time working on restocking some supplies as well as try to test some theories out on a couple of projects since he isn’t allowed to try them out on the ship.”

Omira looked confused before looking at Ariyana and asking, “Why are you guys shaking your heads? Does he do this a lot?”

Ariyana let out a slight chuckle as she responded, “You can say that. To Liam, a break means time to lose yourself in crafting.”

“I swear,” Avery chimed in. “It wont be a monster that will kill him one day, it’ll be his crafting that will do it.”

Roman and Ariyana laughed at the comment while Blair and Artem smiled and nodded their heads. Mercer added, “I’m not sure where the drive comes from. It could be a cultural thing or maybe a circumstantial thing due to whatever happened there, but for as long as we’ve known him he’s either been training or crafting during his free time. I remember when we had to scold him to properly rest back in the Tutorial Area.”

The others, except for Gimmel and Omira nodded. They both seemed curious at the mention of their time spent together in the Tutorial Area. Omira inquired, “Did you all meet at the Tutorial Area?”

“All of us except for Gimmel,” Artem replied as he walked behind the group.

“I’m a native to this world so I met Liam shortly after he arrived from the Tutorial Area,” Gimmel responded. “Our first meeting was good, but the few interaction after that weren’t the best.”

“Liam had mentioned how you both met,” Mercer commented. “Those few interactions in between weren’t your fault but rather that Elf guy who was trying to exploit you.”

  “Elf guy?” Omira asked.

Gimmel explained to her about Chad and Liam’s old friends and how they treated him. Omira’s eyes widened at the story as a sort of understanding was starting to form in her mind of Liam. Before she could say anything Roman commented, “To be honest the guy reminded me of that weasel bitch Nalia. With the way he looked down on Liam, both verbally and non-verbally.”

“Nalia?” Omira questioned, growing even more confused. “Do you mean the Champion of Isis Nalia? Why would you call someone like her a…” Omira’s body tensed as she noticed the looks on everyone’s faces. While they weren’t frowning or scowling, the look in their eyes spoke of a hatred she didn’t understand. Afraid she might have started up a bad topic of conversation, Omira said, “I’m sorry if I said something out of line. Its just that during my few brief interactions with the woman, I’ve never felt she was anything that would make her a…bitch.”

Omira saw half of them sigh while the others shook their heads. She was glad that the look in their eyes had abated a bit. Mercer then told her about their run ins with the Weasel-folk Beast-kin. Omira was shocked at what she was told and started to understand more on why Liam, Mercer, and Blair had acted the way they did that night when Sebastean and she had confronted Liam.

She also understood why they kept their secrets to themselves. While they hadn’t told her of any secrets that she knew they held on to, she could understand that with the discrimination from Nalia and blatant misuse of power and authority she wielded on them they would want to keep as much as they could hidden from people. Especially that Liam guy. She also started to understand why he was going against what was considered the correct path for a Crafter class and training hard to be a combat role.

They talked some more as they continued making their way to the place where the performance was happening. While more people were filling the streets making their way to the place, Omira asked about each planet they had come from. They gave short descriptions of their home worlds since it would take too long to give full details, but the more they described their worlds the more she started to see why the concepts, rules, and traditions of this world made no sense to them. It also explained why Key and Uncle Naro kept emphasizing that they were new arrivals to her when she asked them why the group was doing things differently than what she was always told.

Their concepts, understandings, and even theories held a lot of their old world standards while they tried to gain understandings of this world’s concepts, rules, and theories. Her mind was expanding with new theories and understandings when she compared them to her teachings. The more she listened the more her mind started shifting and compared. As she did this she felt a stir within her. A stir she had only experienced once before, the stirring of things clicking into place and piecing things she was missing.

However, before she could dive deeper into this stirring, they had arrived to their destination. The tall stadium that was holding the performance. Loud noises and shouts caught her’s and the others’ attention to the right. There was a thin girl wearing short shorts, a tank top, a pair of tan fingerless gloves, and a dark blue hat. Poking out from the back of her hat and down to her shoulders was silky aqua blue hair that brought out her vibrant teal eyes. She had black finger nails and orchid purple thin lips. She looked to be arguing with a group of people who were surrounding her in a semi-circle.

Mercer and the others noticed the argument taking place and were about to ignore the scene, but when Omira narrowed her eyes after some things were said, they all sighed and followed her. Omira could have sworn she heard one of them say something along the lines of her and Liam being similar and the others agreeing, but she chose not to question what they meant. Her focus was on what the group had said to the girl.

“What do you mean you won’t refund me the money?” the girl argued, anger starting to form in her voice. “You guys sold me a fake ticket. I want my money back.”

“And we are telling you the if the ticket is fake or not has nothing to do with us. We bought them from a person selling them earlier today,” a man wearing tight dark brown leather gear replied.

“It does have something to do with you. You were the ones who sold it to me. So, either you knew it was fake since you were so adamant on selling it to me or you were scammed too and your tickets are fake as well,” the girl shot back.

“Our tickets aren’t fake. Don’t go spouting nonsense just because yours was!” A female wearing a tan robe shouted, irritation filling her voice.

“So you knew my ticket was fake!” the girl yelled back once more as she took a step forward.

One of the members wearing a plain shirt and pants stepped in between the girl and the robed woman. He was muscular and tall. His face looked apologetic, but also stern as he said, “It’s like we said. We didn’t know the ticket that we sold you was fake. We were also adamant on selling it because we weren’t sure if we were going to find a buyer. That ticket was for our friend who couldn’t make it.”

“But…,” the girl started once more, but was cut off.

“Look, the issue of the ticket isn’t our problem. If you want to complain then find Tictac, a gnome merchant, who we bought it off of. She was the one who sold us these tickets,” the man stated.

“But…but she’s already gone!” the girl shouted, tears forming around the bottom of her eyes.

Once more, the guy looked apologetic as he said, “Then there is nothing we can do. I’m sorry.” The guy then turned to his group and said, “ Let’s go. We need to get to our seat.”

Omira and the others watched as the group walked away. Blair and Roman saw the smirk that formed on the robed woman’s face and heard her whisper, “Dumb bitch. Almost got us caught.”

Both narrowed their eyes as they heard that. However, they knew they couldn’t do anything without looking like they started the trouble. Omira looked back at everyone after watching the girl ball her hands into fists and muttering how this was a once in a lifetime experience she needed and how it wasn’t fair.

“Hey, I know its not my place to ask this…but we do have a free ticket that isn’t going to be used…,” Omira started.

Mercer and Blair let out a sigh as Artem gave a small smirk. Avery shook her head with a grin as she muttered, “Like two peas in a pod.”

“Huh?” Omira questioned as she raised a brow.

“Nothing,” Avery replied as she said, “I don’t care, but its not just my decision alone.”

“Do you think she’ll even trust anyone who says they have a free ticket?” Artem asked.

“Probably not, but it looks like she really wants to go to the show. We can offer it and if she refuses then that’s that,” Omira suggested as she looked at the others.

Everyone looked at each other then shrugged. To Omira that was a sign for her to try. She quickly turned around and made her way over to the girl. The closer she got to the girl the more Omira realized she was a bit older than shew was. From a far she wasn’t able to tell, but the more she looked at her the more she knew she wasn’t.

  “Um…excuse me,” Omira called out.

The young woman looked at her with an irritated gaze, lines of water ran down her cheeks. When she saw Omira, the look of irritation vanished as she asked while wiping away the small amount of tears and sniffed, “I’m sorry. What can I help you with.”

Omira paused, unsure how she should proceed. She decided that the honest approach was best. “I saw the tail end of what happened.” Omira saw the flinch in her body as the irritation the young woman had lost returned slightly. Omira gulped before pressing on. “I’m sorry that happened to you. I wanted to let you know that if you’d like you can join us. We have an extra ticket due to one of my companions deciding that crafting was more important than resting with the rest of us.” Omira then hurriedly added, “We’re not asking for you to pay for it or anything like that. We received these tickets from an acquaintance of ours, so we aren’t even sure how much the tickets cost…”

Omira stopped as she realized she was spouting more than she should. She watched as the young woman’s gaze bore into hers. She could see skepticism, irritation, anger, then confusion, and then…surprise? Omira realized the surprised expression wasn’t from looking at her. She turned around to see what she was looking at and saw the target.

Omira turned back around to look at the young woman and saw her cheeks were slightly blushed. Omira was a bit confused by this and was about to ask a question, but stopped as the young woman asked, “Is that man…is he one of your companions?"

That one question made Omira realize what was going on. With a wry smile Omira replied with a hushed tone, “He is. And I believe he is single. He wanted to come to the show to see if he could gain any inspiration for his class evolution. Something I’m starting to think you have in common.”

The young woman’s eyes widened. “How did you…,” she started to say until Omira cut her off.

Omira placed a finger on the tip of her nose as she said with a wink, “I could smell faint traces of Bard magic around you.”

“You’re a Fae?” the young woman questioned, even more shocked.

Omira nodded. “I am. So? What do you say? Want to join us? I’m Omira.”

The young woman looked at Omira who had reached a hand out. Her gaze moved slightly to the side to get a better look at Mercer as he turned from talking to the half-orc on his right before turning to look at the Kitsune Beast-kin to his left. Before his gaze could look at her, she quickly reached a hand out to Omira and shook it as she said, “Val. I’m Valetrix but you can call me Val. Sure. I’ll join you guys.”

After Val joined them, they quickly made their way to the long line to get inside the establishment holding the event. To everyone’s except for Gimmel’s, Val’s, and Omira’s surprise, the inside of the building was much larger than how it looked on the outside. Outside the building looked like a two story circular building. However after walking through the door leading inside, the building grew four times in length and several stories higher.

They didn’t waste any time after getting inside and made their way to their seats. The tickets they had revealed the area and seat numbers as soon as they presented them to the ticket checkers. They were amazed at the location of their seats. They weren’t up in the front nor up in the nose bleed sections. It was located in an area where they had the perfect view to see the singer on the stage without having to look up or down. The distance wasn’t too far either where they needed to squint or use the screen that was covering the other side of the seats.

Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.

Through Omira’s, Gimmel’s, and Val’s explanation they found out that there were people used in the production company associated with the show who were using Illusion Magic to project the images on the screen. They rotate through each song to make sure that the Illusion mage using the magic doesn’t run out of mana.

Mercer and the others were impressed with what they were being told. Mercer was writing down what Val was telling him. This made Val curious why and she asked. Mercer’s response wasn’t what she was expecting.

“I like to write down things I think could be interesting to know as well as to make notes on magics that have useful applications outside their normal uses,” Mercer replied as he looked at her.

She was sitting on the right side of him, curtesy of Omira. The seating went Roman on the far left then Blair, Artem, Mercer, Val, Ariyana, Gimmel, Omira, and Avery on the far right. Even more curious, she asked, “What do you mean by magics that have useful applications outside their normal uses?”

“Exactly how it sounds,” Mercer replied. He could see the confusion in her eyes, so he elaborated, “We have a friend. The guy who isn’t here and is crafting instead. It was due to his adaptability with the magic he had that made me think that magic can be used outside of their intended uses.” Mercer chuckled before adding, “Let me tell you the first time I saw this happen. We were fighting a creature called a Spider-tailed Horned Viper. We were desperate in our fight since we were still learning. Well during the fight, he decided he was going to try something out. Something he never intended to do…”

Omira was listening intently to the story as well as Mercer continued, “Well during the middle of the fight he ran up the snake’s back after Blair chopped off the monster’s tail. He had put away the weapons he had in his hands and took out a vial of oil. When he got within a certain distance he threw it at the snake’s face. After that he started chanting, but as he was chanting he was thrown off the monster. However, that didn’t stop him there. He then completed the chant as the snake opened its mouth and tried to eat him. Do you want to know what that spell was?”

Both Omira and Val were caught up in the story, curiosity and interest pulling them in. Even Gimmel was wanting to know as the three nodded their heads. Mercer let out a laugh and said, “He used a Light and Burn spell.”

“A Light and Burn spell?” Omira and Val questioned.

“Isn’t that a Crafter spell they use to light something on fire?” Omira inquired.

Val’s eyes widened as she remembered something Mercer had said earlier. Her mouth dropped for a brief moment before she asked, “Are you saying he lit that snake on fire?!”

Mercer nodded his head swiftly as the others laughed. “Yup and thanks to the oil that was still stuck on it Avery kept the fire alive until it burned to death.”

“That’s not the only thing though,” Artem joined in. “He was also on the verge of death due to the snake’s poison. I had to use Detox on him to get all the poison out and while I was doing that, the crafter obsessed guy pulled out a vial and collected the poison coming out of him. With that dumb grin on his face he had the audacity to say that free materials was free materials.”

Artem, Avery, Ariyana, Blair, Mercer, and Roman all laughed as they reminisced the fight. It might have sounded absurd to anyone listening, but to them it was a memory of them learning how to fight and learning new things.

“After that fight I started seeing things differently. He had used Craft Magic in a way that helped defeat a monster,” Mercer said. “According to this world, that isn’t an optimal way of using Craft Magic. However, the results of that application worked out perfectly. Even with the other times he used that combination while in combat. Have you ever heard of Mana Type Hands?”

“Yeah,” Val said slowly as she tried to think more on it. “It’s another Crafter style magic…Well its not under the Crafter magic, but people only use them for crafting since they are basically useless for anything else…why do you ask?”

“Wait. That can’t be true,” Omira chimed in looking confused. “While I don’t know much about the spells, that’s not the way both Liam and that Naro guy uses them.”

Confused even more, Val turned to look at her and then back at Mercer. “What does she mean? How do they…” Shen then looked like something clicked. “Wait…Are you telling me that there are people who actually use Mana Type Hands for combat?”

Mercer nodded his head as Val asked, “How is that possible? Those that I know who have spells within that area say they can’t use them for combat use.”

“Application. Its all about how you use them and adapt them to your use,” Mercer stated with a smile.

Val looked at Mercer with awe. She was amazed at what he was saying. She glanced down at the notebook and then back at him. She then considered something as she asked, “You keep mentioning that your crafter friend has been coming up with applications for his magics that are outside the norm, but have you done the same?”

Mercer looked a bit pained as he heard her question. “Not yet,” he responded. “I am still figuring out something I can do to that extent.”

Val smiled softly. “I think…” However, before she could finish her sentence, fire started exploding all around the edge of the stage. The sudden explosions caught everyone’s attention as cheers erupted from all around them. While everyone was excited she noticed that Mercer and everyone from his group except for Gimmel and Omira looked tensed and ready to fight. It was a curious sight to her, but at the same time she understood that they must have never been to a Musical Professional’s show before.

“Relax!” Val called out to the others over the roar of the crowd. “That’s just a sign that the show is about to begin.”

As if on cue, a wave of fire shot up one at a time from both sides of the stage until they reached the middle. The pace of the fire erupting was slow. After it had reached the middle the next wave of fire started and this time the pace was slightly faster. Then a third wave started.

As the waves of fire erupted and sped up, icicles started to form high above the stage. A line of thin icicles formed over and lined up in the air right above the flames. After the last icicle fully formed the flames below erupted in unison without going out allowing the icicles to drop down swiftly. As soon as the icicles collided with the burning fire, an explosion of mist erupted and shot out towards the crowd, filling the entire room with a thick mist.

Mercer and the others were surprised when the mist washed over them. While they felt the gust that blew, they didn’t feel any heat or chill. Just a gust of wind. After they opened their eyes they looked around to see that they were able to see each other, but the stage was completely blanketed with the mist.

Then out of nowhere, a single flame that grew somewhere in the middle of the stage came to life. As Mercer and Ariyana stared at it they recognized the shape of the flame. The flame took the shape of a flower in its budding stage. Then like a flower slowly blooming to life, it started opening one petal at a time until it reached the last four petals. The mist started swirling around the awakening flaming flower while the last four petals moved in and out almost like it was breathing. After a few motions of the petals going in and out, the last four petals flung open as a person shot up into the air.

It was a female judging by the silhouette. Her body spun around as her vibrating short dress pulsed red, glacial blue, and neon green. Her red hair waved about as it followed her motion. After reaching a specific height she forced the spinning to stop as a pair of ethereal wings came to life in a magical way. Her arms and legs were stretched out. She had glacial blue eyes that gave a chilly yet alluring feel to them while her red hair pulsed and flickered about almost as if it was on fire.

Behind her flames and ice erupted to life and sculpted themselves into the form of instruments. The mist that was swirling around the now fading fire flower shot up above the woman took the form of words that read, Mystifying Fire Rose.

While everyone watched the alluring woman coming down from the air, Mercer’s eyes were on the magical instruments that were created out of ice and fire. He wasn’t sure why, but he felt something pulsing within him. Ariyana had the same effect, but instead of it coming from the instruments it came from the woman. The feeling they were getting grew even more as the music started to play and the stunning woman started to sing.

Her voice was mesmerizing as each word flowed out effortlessly and melodically. They weren’t sure what was going on, but the more the woman sang and the more the instruments complimented her voice, the deeper they were sucked in. Mercer felt each note being played by each individual instrument vibrate throughout his body as Ariyana felt each word, each syllable soothe her body.

While both were undergoing the same thing, what they were experiencing was completely different. Ariyana felt a new understanding with each Focus Point in her Advanced Field of the Charmed. She also felt something forming, but she wasn’t entirely sure what it was. It was annoying her to no ends as she tried to understand it more.

Mercer had the same thing going on with him. His Focus Point Elemental Chords in his Advanced Field of the Bard was getting a work out in the understanding department the more he stared and listened to the elemental instruments playing. He could feel something from them. He wasn’t sure if it was an effect of some sort, but the more the music played the more enraptured he was with them.

Val, screaming out like a crazed fan, turned to see if Mercer was enjoying the show. Her wide smile turned into a look of surprise as she saw the look on Mercer’s face, the glow in his eyes. She understood what was going on with him. Even though the music, the crowd, and the singer were all loud, she could hear him muttering something. It was questions. It wasn’t only coming from Mercer she suddenly realized. Val turned to her right and saw that Ariyana was undergoing something as well. And just like Mercer she was muttering questions too.

Val could clearly hear what the repeated questions that they were saying over and over. She knew what it was they were stuck on and had to make a decision. She could say what it was they were trying to figure out or she could withhold it and not help them. She looked at the others who were with her. While she didn’t know them, they did see how badly she wanted to see this performer. They reached out and gave her what she wanted when she needed someone. With a smile she made her decision.

Val turned her head and leaned closer to Ariyana, just enough for her to hear her as she whispered in her ear, “She blends her Fae Charm and her Charm Magic together to entrance her audience.” She then quickly leaned closer to Mercer and whispered in his ear, “Her Minstrel type class takes advantage of the misty vapors created by the fire and ice instruments by blending her Field of the Bard Focus Points Mana Channeling and Elemental Chords. Through those vaporized mists she can use the music to keep her fans’ stamina filled. It’s called Minstrel Magic.”

Val quickly moved back and saw the pieces click into place in both Mercer and Ariyana. A rush of power washed over them causing everyone around to be stunned and shocked. Then almost as if they had awoken from a dream, Mercer and Ariyana stared at their hands with a confused expression. That expression was quickly replaced with a look of pure joy as they shouted out with excitement. Val was then taken by surprise as Mercer and Ariyana swiftly hugged her.

Val could feel the appreciation and happiness radiate from them as they bounced up and down. She was happy she could return the favor they had given her. Now it was her turn to figure out what she was missing for her first class evolution.

Liam finally emerged from the crafting area after spending over an hour in there. Like he did in the Cashat Port Web Branch, he deactivated his Spirit Weave ability and devoured some Soul Orbs to replenish his Spirit Pool while he crafted. During that time he was able to raise his Spirit pool by thirty more points bringing it up to the four hundred and fifty mark.

While he was in there, he spent his time making both Weak and Minor Shadow and Lunar Mana Extracts. While he focused more on the Shadow Mana Extracts he still made around twenty Lunar ones. He was also able to make a few vials of Minor Paralytic Adder Poisons and Minor Paralytic Adder Poison powders. The powdered version took up most of his time, so he wasn’t able to make anything else, but he was satisfied with the amount especially since it brought his Poison Craft section in his Alchemy Craft from level fifteen to level seventeen. He had also wrote a letter to Lady Arachne and placed the cloth he wanted her to see into an envelope as he crafted.

After cleaning up and reactivating his Spirit Weaver ability, Liam left the room. Lady Velvet was still sitting there. She looked troubled as he approached her. The look on her face changed as she saw him into a smile as she said, “Did you find the crafting area suitable to your needs?”

Liam nodded as he pulled out two crates filled with twenty vials. One was filled with the Weak Quality Shadow Mana Extracts while the other held the Minor Quality ones. Lady Velvet was impressed with this. She offered to ship it out for him at no cost. He took this chance to ask if he could send the envelope addressed to Lady Arachne. Lady Velvet told him that it would be no trouble at all to do so.

After they finished the transaction, she gave him the merit and recognition for completing the personalized request made to him. Her smile had then turned into a troubled one as her gaze shifted towards something on the desk. Feeling curious, Liam finally asked, “Is everything alright?”

Taken by surprise, Lady Velvet looked back at him. She then looked like she was contemplating something before she finally replied, “Kind of. While you were in the crafting area, my branch received two expedited requests. However, since no one is around I couldn’t really assign them to anyone.”

Liam raised a brow as he looked at her. While he wasn’t sure what was going on, he also felt a bit uneasy that she claimed no one was around when he was there. To him that meant that he either didn’t qualify or it was because it was a type of request that needed a certain specialty.

Lady Velvet noticed the look on his face and then sighed, “To be honest I’m not entirely sure if you would be interested in either of these quests. The reason why I’m hesitant to even show you them is because both are tied together, but at the same time they counter each other.”

Liam’s raised brow remained as he asked, “What the hell does that mean? How can two requests be tied together but counter each other at the same time?”

“It’s the nature of the requests,” Lady Velvet replied. “Not only that, but the risks they both entail are very high.”

Liam was even more curious now. Letting his curiosity get the better of him he asked, “Can I see what the requests entail? Or maybe get more information on them? From the feeling I’m getting they are something a certain specialty is needed, right?”

“You could say that,” Lady Velvet said as she started to look even more conflicted. After a few moments, she finally said, “Fine. I’ll give you the details. The reason why I said the two are tied together is because the target in both requests are the same person. And the reason why I say they counter each other is because one is requesting to assassinate the target while the other is asking to defend and keep the target alive until reinforcements from a friendly Underground Association arrives to help fight off any who are trying to assassinate the target.”

Liam stared at her. He was confused as to why both of these two requests were here even to begin with since they countered each other pretty hard. Not to mention the one request asking to keep the target alive until allies arrived. That one felt like it was specifically meant for their Associated. If that was the case then why was the other one even being shown as an option? It smelled like there was more to this than he understood.

Before he could ask the obvious question, Lady Velvet answered, “We have a policy where we have to present any request that is brought to our door. No matter how bad it contradicts a second request that is presented to counter it. While we do not advise to accept the request that could make you go up against those from the same association, we believe it is best to have a choice especially when the other request is unreasonable as this one.”

  “Unreasonable?” Liam questioned.

Lady Velvet nodded. “In this instance, while we would prefer our members to take the defend the target request, it is still unreasonable unless there is a highly skilled team. The reason is because unlike our association and the allies coming in, I guarantee the other Underground Associations here on the island received the assassination request. Meaning if you were to take the defend one and you are all alone then you will be going up against an unknown amount of enemies.”

Liam understood what she was saying now. As he thought about it, memories flashed before his eyes. Memories of a lone figure taking on countless people. Blood flying from both the lone figure and the enemies attacking, bodies falling as they gasped their last breath, and screams filling the air all around the lone figure taking on the impossible.

Liam snapped back out of it as he looked at Lady Velvet. While he know understood why she wasn’t trying to ask him to take the request he was curious about who the target was. A sinking feeling started to grow in his stomach as he thought about something. The requests came in while he was inside the crafting area. That meant the target must have either been hiding here and was found or the target had recently arrived.

He was hoping that the sinking feeling in his stomach was wrong, but he still needed to know. He looked Lady Velvet in the eyes and asked, “Can I see one of the two requests?”

Lady Velvet hesitated for a long moment before sliding him the paper with the words Assassinate Target Request. As he pulled the paper towards him to get a better look at it, that sinking feeling erupted throughout his entire body. He didn’t need to read it to see who the target was. There was a picture supplied to the paper. However, Liam still moved his eyes to read the name. Without realizing he was speaking out loud, Liam whispered, “Assassinate Third Princess Omira Faeheart.”
