Chapter 71

  Milo

I bite my nails nervously while Ivan fights furiously. The Orcs are making a push. Not a little one either. They are finally marshaling real forces. We believe it is because Theo is drawing close, and they are realizing their predicament.

Lysander blasts the field, giving Ivan some time. The Abominations have wormed their ways into the crowds, making it difficult for the artillery mages to blast the enemies, so we are withdrawing them so the artillery mages can keep firing.

Lysander, Via, and the old man repeatedly blast the field, their abilities killing thousands, but the orcs keep getting closer, they shred the majority of the zombies, and then they are at the gates. Just like that.

I spin. “Alistair! Keep the abominations at the gate!”

Alistair nods to me, and the abominations draw close right outside the gate; they sit in a semi-circle ready to tear anybody apart who tries to get in.

The battle rages on, and the orcs beat at the gates, Ivan barely fends off the orcs who have slowly been learning his tricks. Ivan is pushed backwards, and finally with a crash, the gate is torn through, the first orcs breach the gate, but are quickly consumed by the abominations, as well as fire from archers, who aren’t afraid to hit the abominations.

Then with a blast some more orcs become known. Probably in the B ranks, one blasts forward, his fists swinging, and blasts into the Abomination, but the creature just continues consuming, and the damage is healed in no time.

Then with a wail, and a screech, one abomination is lit on fire. Its body burns, and it thrashes itself into the gateway, its dying struggles lighting many orcs alight, before it is finally burnt away, and the sludge, mixed with the ash, and bones, rests in the gateway. The other abominations push closer to close the gaps. They seal the gaps, any stragglers are killed by adventurers.

The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.

As the fight rages on, a second abomination is brought down in a fiery inferno, it performs the same, as it writhes, splashing the whole gateway with boiling tallow, leaving horrid scars on whoever catches some, before finally… Melting into a scalding hot puddle of bones, and liquified flesh.

Seven abominations remain, and they push inwards, crowding even closer, their flesh contacts each other, and billows out pushing against one another. As they push they consume, more orcs push in, their feet being burned by the tallow they splash through, but the blood mixes with it, bringing it to a bearable temperature.

The abomination's limbs fly forward, grabbing orcs, slamming them against each other, before drawing them back into the masses to be consumed. They cry out as their friends are slaughtered, their flesh used in an unholy creation to fuel this horrendous battle.

Another abomination is lit alight, repeating the show seen before, it splashes into the mix, its body writhing, burning limbs flying everywhere, as the flesh liquifies, and sloughs off the bones, joining into the abomination of writhing green flesh, splattering the whole thing with bubbling fat, and as such the masses of green flesh themselves begin to bubble, sores, and blisters form, the burns causing horrid mixes of flesh to fall to the ground, leaving warriors horribly scarred, before their deaths.

Turning my attention away from that, the orcs continue to bottleneck themselves trying to get through the gates, all the while the mages blast the area into oblivion, severely thinning the number of orcs. Occasionally one of the specialized artillery mages will fire, but they are so low on mana, it's rare, and only gives a temporary reprieve.

The orcs push in, and the many archers, and mages in the walls, or in the alcoves on the sides of the valley fire down, and into the masses of orcs, killing hundreds with every volley, the arrows sticking into the ground leaving caltrops of sorts to slow the orcs following behind down.

Returning my attention to the gates, six abominations remain, but in quick time, a sixth abomination is brought alight, its massive gelatinous body flailing, but instead of suffering the same fate as the previous abominations, this one is suddenly blasted by high pressure water, aquamancers, from on top of the walls. They put out the fire, and allow the six massive monsters to continue raging against the masses of orcs.

I can't do much of anything, but I continue to watch the battle rage on.

Then my attention is brought away, and to Ivan. he slams against a wall, and lays collapsed at the bottom, heaving, his armor torn through in multiple places, his foes standing above him victoriously.
