Chapter 44 The Guild

“Don’t be an ass, Travis. Also don’t worry about the Revenant, it has already been dealt with.” My dad said. Nixy and I stood there observing the exchange, well, I was observing. Nixy, on the other hand, leaned contentedly against me, happily soaking up the attention as I absentmindedly ran my fingers through her fur.

“Let me have my fun Ralph. I was going to make the kid think I was some all powerful and all knowing sort.” Travis responded. At his words, I gave my father look and asked over party chat. How much can we trust him? I am already fully aware that he has some type of telekinetic ability.

My father smirked and responded to me. Don’t worry, Travis, your mom, and I along with a healer we knew, were all in a party and did Dungeons together. I trust him completely, though he will want to add every adventurer to the System to help keep them alive.

“How could you be all knowing with a power like telekinesis?” I asked Travis.

He turned and narrowed his eyes at me, a flicker of surprise crossing his face. "Well, I wasn’t expecting your father to have already told you about me." His voice held a hint of amusement, but I could see the gears turning in his mind, recalibrating his approach. For a brief moment, I felt a surge of satisfaction at having caught him off guard. However, him not realizing that I didn’t know who he was just takes the fun out of it. "Alright, Jace tell me where you fought this Revenant so I can send someone out to retrieve its body. Their bodies produce death essence, and it will continue to kill everything and bring about undead in the area until it is found.”

“Uhh, well, about that. I kind of brought the body with me.” I said and turning around pulled the body from my Inventory. My father had already said that he trusted Travis, so I was going to trust him as well. I was a little sad that I hadn’t been able to mess with him about his telekinesis more, but oh well.

Walking over Travis did not even say a word about the fact that I had seemingly pulled a body from thin air. He gave the body a thorough look and then called out down the hall. Within seconds someone appeared and grabbed the body before taking away. Then he started going back to his desk. Having not said a word to either my father or I since the whole thing began.

As he was going to sit down my father started to speak, however, Travis held up a hand to forestall him. Once he was fully in his seat, he gestured for us to take the seats that were across from him. My father and I sat in the chairs, and Nixy was about to try and climb in my lap before I pushed her down.

Once everyone was seated Travis pulled out one of his drawers on his desk and reached in. I heard an audible click and then a hum of energy as it sprang up around the chairs and desk encompassing us in a sort of dome. “Ok, now we are good to talk. Ralph, what the hell man? You cannot have you kid displaying an ability that is not recorded. Especially, without warning me first. Now tell me everything.”

I looked to my father and let him know over party chat that I trusted his judgement. With that acknowledgement, my dad explained.

It was odd hearing my story from another’s perspective. If it had not happened to me, then I would almost think that it was all on purpose. As though I was being led around to meet royalty here and there. Obviously, I knew that was not the case, but it was interesting.

My father explained how I had added him to the System and the abilities he had gained. How my mother was able to gain more control over her talent and was able to use it to great success. Then he explained how the plan was for me to go to school and gain control of my abilities and maybe get my second revelation under my belt before I became an adventurer and travelled around.

My father had apparently been planning on meeting with Travis at that time and telling him about my talent, but that we had been trying to keep it secret due to how much trouble it could cause me. Especially now that I had befriended the two royals and was helping to make sure that they did not get killed.

When my father finished explaining what he knew, Travis turned to me and asked me questions, trying to make sure he understood everything that was going on and that he had all the information. When I got to the part about telling the Grand Elder everything about the system and that she had not wanted to be a part of it, Travis just snorted.

When I finished speaking, silence settled over the room like a heavy blanket. Travis sat with his eyes closed, his brow furrowed in deep concentration, the weight of the conversation pressing down on all of us. The steady hum of the protective spell surrounding us faded into the background, becoming nothing more than a distant buzz. My father appeared equally lost in thought, his fingers tapping a slow, thoughtful rhythm against the table, a habit I recognized as a sign he was processing every word carefully.

Meanwhile, I leaned back in my chair, absently running my fingers through Nixy's soft fur. She pressed against me, a comforting presence as my thoughts drifted over everything we had discussed. The atmosphere was thick with unspoken questions, each of us contemplating what the next steps should be. My father’s expression suggested he was still mulling over my words, but I simply shrugged and returned my focus to Nixy, deciding I had thought enough for now.

“Well, go ahead and add me to this system.” Travis said while staring at me.

I shrugged once again and invited him to my party. When he joined, I mentioned that he should go ahead and choose his class as well. I figured I would just wait until I felt the shift of him taking a class before looking at his stats.

  Name: Travis Talent: Telekinesis

  Level: 102

  Class: Psionic Archon (L)

  Experience: 0/48500

  Profession: Adventurer's Guild Master

  Race: Zephran

  Strength: 207

  Dexterity: 188

  Endurance: 163

  Constitution: 160

  Wisdom: 311

  Intelligence: 265

  Luck: 39

  Skills:

  Identify - Level 1 Telekinesis - Level 1 Dodge - Level 1

Knife Mastery - Level 1 Mindforged Construct - Level 1

Level one hundred and two. I couldn’t believe it. I had not felt much in the way of an aura from him or anything. I just sat there staring for a good while. Well note to self, don’t piss off the telekinetic.

Though I was surprised by the fact that my stats were not that far off his. It made me realize just how much you could gain from getting The System earlier. I mean yes, he had 1333 points to my 806. That was only 527 points difference. I would have that in 22 levels means when I am less than half his level, I will have more stats than him. And that does not even take into account my 10% increase.

“Oh man, I cannot believe how powerful your talent is Jace. There is so much I could do with this. I can’t even imagine what you will gain at your next revelation. Have you thought about what you want?” Travis asked me.

“Actually, I have. I want the ability to help others choose higher level rarity classes, or the ability to create something like a guild. Kind of like what you have here. You would be the leader of this guild and then it would move down from there with different branches. That way people who prefer to work on noncombat related things could be in a different branch of the guild. While the guild aspect allows for certain things. Like maybe a guild storage for those who are taking down larger creatures or guild buffs or something.”

As I spoke, I began to see how the guild would work in my mind. A hierarchical yet flexible structure. Whoever the leader of the guild is would be able to set it up however they wanted, but each guild would be able to level up by completing guild quests.

That’s when the world went black for but a moment. Then I was back in that same room I was in before with the computer with a black screen. Only this time on the desk next to the computer monitor was an aloe vera plant.

  System update initializing…

  System update complete…

Guild system acquired. Guild quests created.

Then I woke back up, sitting in the same spot. To the others it seemed that I had only been gone for a blink. Had I just had my second revelation? I didn’t understand what the revelation was though. The only thing different had been the aloe plant and the only reason I knew what that looked like was because I had a buddy that had a few in his front yard. What did an aloe vera have to do with my revelation?

Shaking my head, I looked between my father and Travis, “Well I guess The System wants me to create a guild as well. Though I will have to think about how I want to start a guild as I don’t know if I can only create one guild or what.”

“Good call, I just tried, and it looks like I could make my own guild if I wanted, but since according to your father only you can add people to the System, I will hold off for the time being. Maybe later we can try and mess around with it huh?” Travis stated. This actually caused me to worry some. I fully believed that the guild leader and whoever they designated to add people to their guild would add people to The System. I guess I had no choice but to trust Travis for the time being.

With all the important information exchanged and no further pressing matters to discuss, Travis deactivated the protective spell surrounding us. As the hum of magic faded into silence, I felt a weight lift from the room, but my mind was still racing with thoughts about what lay ahead.

Travis wasted no time and called for an aide to bring a proper collar for Nixy—one that would instantly identify her to anyone who saw it. As we waited, he efficiently handled the paperwork, ensuring everything was in order. Watching him work with such ease made me realize just how accustomed he was to managing things on this scale.

My father and I chatted with Travis about nothing here and there while waiting for the collar and the paperwork to be finished. When we were getting ready to leave Travis made sure to get a promise from both of us to come back within the month so that we could talk about my joining the guild. I knew he actually meant my creating a guild in the system, but we said we would.

After that we headed home. As we walked Nixy followed along beside me, nose darting to and fro taking in all the scents she could. I was lost in my thoughts trying to decide what to do about this new revelation and if I should even create a guild or just let my parents handle it. I mean I was till only ten, it was a big decision for me.

“You know, I didn’t pay attention to it too much at first, but you are acting differently than when you left. Almost as though your older, maybe fifteen or sixteen instead of ten.” My father said as we made our way to the house.

It made me wonder if The System had done more than just make me taller—perhaps it had also balanced my hormones and accelerated my development, allowing me to grow up faster than normal. It was a strange thought, but one that I couldn't ignore. I decided it was something I needed to pay closer attention to moving forward.

And just as I was getting lost in my thoughts, the sharp clang of alarm bells shattered the evening calm, echoing through the city streets. My heart lurched as the distant chimes grew louder, their urgent toll sending a ripple of tension through the air. People around us froze for a moment, their gazes snapping to the towering castle where the bells rang from, faces quickly shifting from curiosity to concern.
