Book 2 - Epilogue

Hanzazeelem strolled along a winding staircase, his footsteps echoing in the silent corridor. The faint, blinkering light barely illuminated the path ahead, casting long, flickering shadows. Yet, the examiner showed no fear as he traversed the darkness, his steps confident and unwavering.

He paused, and the guarding beacon vanished, plunging the staircase into deeper obscurity. A voice, cryptic yet clear, resonated from the void. “You’re here. How did it go?”

Hanzazeelem dropped to one knee, bowing his head. “Everything went according to your predictions, sir,” he replied, a hint of hesitation in his voice. “Sir, is it right for us to allow them to proceed?”

“They have broken no rules,” the administrator responded firmly. “It is not explicitly stated, but the Order of Light has the right to punish anyone who violates the laws of the Dark Forest.”

“But sir, it’s obvious he’s manipulating events from behind the scenes,” Hanzazeelem protested, lifting his gaze. “Godfall Island isn’t a place…” A gentle wind rustled, compelling Hanzazeelem to lower his head again.

If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

“It’s within the rules,” the administrator reaffirmed.

“I understand, sir,” Hanzazeelem said, his voice tinged with resignation. He hesitated before asking, “Sir, is it wise to let him live? Would his existence not threaten the continuation of the tower?”

“Do you fear an invasion from beings of a higher dimension?” the administrator retorted.

Hanzazeelem paused, then admitted, “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t anxious about an impending war. But I harbor no fear. I only worry that it will bring destruction to this dimension and everything within it.”

“You’re concerned the tower would cease to exist?” the administrator queried.

“Yes, I am, sir,” Hanzazeelem replied without hesitation.

“You may leave, Hanzazeelem. Good work,” the administrator said.

Hanzazeelem stood, bowing once more before turning to leave. “While the tower might currently exist in a lower dimension, it would be unwise to assume it originates from here. Inform Darit of his daughter’s whereabouts.”

“What if he attempts to rescue her?” Hanzazeelem asked.

“I will annihilate the lightning dragons,” the administrator declared.

Under the guidance of the flickering light, Hanzazeelem retraced his steps, fading into the darkness once more.

I would have preferred a different profession, but I get to live again. It’s way better whatever is waiting for me in the afterlife.

Please let the hall be empty. Please let the hall be empty. Please let the hall be empty, Han Rui silently prayed, crossing his index and ring fingers. With a gentle push, the door noiselessly swung open, revealing an expansive hall filled with people all dressed in identical burnt orange robes. The moment Han Rui stepped out, everyone stopped in their tracks, deliberately forming a path on either side of the entrance.

These obstinate cultivators haven't changed at all. They don't listen to anything I say. For many people to have come here on such short notice, surely word would have reached Grandfather already, Han Rui sighed again.

Why did this guy have to be here?

Did something happen while I was gone?

What are they feeding this guy, though? He has grown taller again. What sort of genes did he inherit? Han Rui pondered, stealing glances at his cousin.

To think there was a time I could still slap the top of his head. Is this what it's like to unlock your potential? Han Rui wondered silently as he exited the hall with Han Yulong. Only then did the bowing cultivators raise their heads before proceeding with their tasks.

What's gotten that little shithead riled up? Did I do something to the Su Clan? Han Rui pondered for a moment, but nothing came to mind. Forget it. I'll find out soon enough.

That mouth of his is going to get him in trouble one day. How did such a cute little guy turn into that? Puberty, huh. Han Rui slowly shook his head as he averted his gaze to the levitating carriage.

I knew the young master was eccentric, but how can he forget his fiancée? Is the young master going to be okay? The Su Clan won't let him off easy if he does something crazy, Han Xingwei mused.

It would have been nice if they allowed me to freshen up first, but oh well.

I totally forgot about them… Han Xianlong coughed slightly as he beckoned toward Han Rui.

compliment my grandson?” Han Xianlong said softly. However, the members of the Su procession stood at alert, a sense of unease washing over them.

There’s no point hiding this matter since it will be well known soon enough.

Does this brat even understand what the Heavenly Immortal Pavilion represents? Elder Mingdao mused silently. Before he could echo his thoughts, Han Rui spoke up again, his index finger pointed at Su Meixue, “So, if I’m understanding you, you’ll compensate us for breaking the engagement and she’ll also be given to me as a concubine?”

Wait, is this brat considering accepting the offer? This is turning out better than I anticipated. Wasn’t he supposed to be some sort of literary prodigy? Does he realize what he’s about to do? I can understand why Xianlong isn’t interfering, but why are the other elders silent? Did they resign to their fate after hearing about the Heavenly Immortal Pavilion? Different questions flashed across Su Mingdao's mind as he nodded in acknowledgment to Han Rui’s question.

What the hell is a Screaming lily and blue-black avaes? This little bastard also asked for the blood essence of rank 1 demon beasts. Is this some sort of recipe? Mingdao pondered silently, his gaze roaming past the thirty items listed.
