Book 7: Chapter 9

The Abominable Snowman's roar shook the entire cavern, sending shivers of ice cascading down from above. The creature stood nearly fifteen feet tall, its white fur matted with frost and ice crystals. Ancient eyes, glowing with an eerie blue light, fixed upon the three girls who dared to challenge it in its domain.

Jessica felt the familiar surge of power coursing through her veins as she prepared to transform. "Salina, watch over Mia," she commanded, her voice already growing deeper, rougher. "Frankie, you're with me."

"On it," Salina replied, moving to position herself between Mia and the monster. Her fingers were already tracing intricate patterns in the air, leaving trailing sparkles of magical energy.

The transformation hit Jessica like a wave of electricity. Her bones cracked and reformed, muscles expanding and shifting beneath her skin. White fur erupted across her body, matching the snow around them but gleaming with a silvery sheen that set her apart from the Snowman's matted coat. Her face elongated into a lupine muzzle, filled with razor-sharp teeth, and her eyes blazed with an intense yellow fire. Her feet grew out of her boots, stretching out her toe claws that scratched the ice.

Frankie's vampire nature emerged more subtly but no less dramatically. Her usual green eyes shifted to a burning crimson, and her fangs extended below her upper lip. Her fingernails grew into sharps like a cat ready to attack its prey.

"Let's dance, big guy," Frankie taunted, her voice carrying an otherworldly echo.

The Snowman responded with another earthshaking roar and swung one massive arm toward them. Jessica launched herself forward, using her werewolf strength to meet the creature's attack head-on. The impact sent shockwaves through the cave, but she held her ground, muscles straining against the monster's raw power.

"Spiritus ignei, fortitudinem tuam praebe mihi!" Salina's voice rang out, and suddenly the air crackled with heat. A ball of flame materialized and struck the Snowman's shoulder, causing it to stumble back with a howl of pain and rage.

Frankie seized the opportunity, using her vampire speed to become almost invisible to the naked eye. She appeared behind the creature, her enhanced strength allowing her to rake her claws across its back. "Its fur is like armor!" she called out. "We need to find a weak spot!"

Jessica ducked another massive swing and retaliated with a series of quick strikes to the monster's midsection. Her claws left deep gouges in its thick hide, but the wounds seemed to close almost immediately, ice crystals forming over them like natural bandages.

"This isn't working," Jessica growled, back flipping away from a potentially crushing blow. "It's too strong!"

Salina's eyes darted around the cavern, taking in their surroundings while maintaining a protective shield around Mia. Her gaze fell on a dark crevasse in the ice floor, its depths disappearing into blackness. "The pit!" she shouted. "Jessica, Frankie–we need to push it into the pit!"

"Easier said than done," Frankie replied, barely avoiding being grabbed by one of the monster's massive hands. "This thing weighs more than a truck!"

Jessica circled around, trying to position herself between the Snowman and the pit. "I got an idea. Frankie, follow my lead exactly how I move.”

The vampire's eyes lit up with confusion, but she nodded. “Okay.”

They moved in perfect synchronization, like two cheerleaders preparing for a daring stunt. Jessica charged from the left while Frankie attacked from the right, both aiming for the creature's legs. The Snowman tried to defend against both attacks simultaneously, but its massive size worked against it, making it impossible to react quickly enough.

"Elementa terrae et aeris," Salina chanted, her hands glowing with magical energy, "da potestatem custodire amicis meis epularer!"

A sudden gust of wind filled the cave, providing additional force to Jessica and Frankie's attack. They pushed the Snowman back several feet, but the creature dug its claws into the ice, creating deep furrows as it resisted.

"It's too strong!" Frankie shouted, her muscles trembling with effort. "We can't move it!"

The Snowman seemed to sense their weakness and pushed back, nearly sending both girls flying. Its roar of triumph echoed through the cave, a sound of primal victory.

Salina's eyes narrowed as she watched her friends struggle. She could feel the magical energy building within her, demanding release. It would cost her, possibly leave her weakened for days, but they were out of options.

“Audite virtutem antiquam meam," she began, her voice taking on an otherworldly resonance. The temperature in the cave dropped even further as she drew upon forces beyond mortal understanding. "Da mihi virtutem ad illos quos amo tueor!”

Energy crackled around her hands, no longer just fire but something more primal, more powerful. The air itself seemed to bend and twist around her as she gathered her strength.

  "Jessica! Frankie! Move!" she screamed.

Her friends didn't hesitate, diving to either side as Salina released her spell. A beam of pure magical force struck the Snowman square in the chest, lifting it off its feet. The creature's roar of triumph turned to one of surprise and fear as it found itself hurled backward, directly toward the waiting pit.

Time seemed to slow as the massive form teetered on the edge of the abyss. Its arms windmilled frantically, trying to regain balance, but gravity and magic proved too powerful to resist. With a final, almost mournful cry, the Abominable Snowman plummeted into the darkness.

Jessica and Frankie wasted no time. They had prepared for this moment, pulling out the Native American wooden statue wards they'd been given. Working quickly, they placed them around the pit's edge, forming a circle of protective energy.

"Spiritus terreni et caeli," Salina whispered, her voice weak but determined, "hoc carcerem signare in perpetuum."

The wards glowed with an inner light, and a barrier of energy formed over the pit's opening. Ice and rock fell, filling in the gaps until the prison was complete.

"Salina!" Jessica called out as their friend swayed on her feet. Both she and Frankie rushed to catch her before she could fall.

"I'm okay," Salina assured them, though her face was pale and drawn. "Just... need a minute."

"You were amazing," Frankie said, supporting her friend's weight. "That spell was incredible!"

"We all were," Jessica added, already shifting back to her human form. The white fur receded, leaving her looking somewhat disheveled but triumphant. "But we need to get Mia out of here. She's been in the cold too long."

They turned their attention to their unconscious friend, whose breathing had grown shallow. The immediate danger of the Snowman might be past, but they weren't out of trouble yet.

"The lodge isn't far," Salina said, slowly regaining her strength. "If we hurry, we can get her warmed up before any lasting damage is done."

Frankie, her vampire features fading back to normal, carefully lifted Mia in her arms. "Then let's move. I don't want to spend another minute in this ice cave."

As they made their way toward the cave's entrance, Jessica cast one last look at the sealed pit. The wards continued to pulse with a soft light, standing guard over their imprisoned foe. She couldn't help but feel a twinge of sympathy for the creature–lonely and cursed, searching for connection in all the wrong ways.

"Come on," Salina called, breaking into her thoughts. "Let's get back to the warm fire and hot chocolate. I don't know about you, but I've had enough adventure for one ski trip."

Jessica smiled and turned away from the pit. They had faced the impossible and emerged victorious. More importantly, they had done it together, each contributing their unique strengths to overcome a seemingly unstoppable force.

As they stepped out of the ice cave and into the winter afternoon, the sun breaking through the clouds felt like a promise of better things to come. They had survived; they had won, and they had protected those who needed protection.

For a werewolf, a vampire, and a witch–three best friends who was monster girls–it was just another day in their extraordinary lives.
