Sense of Chaos

  Chapter 172 Sense of Chaos

Aleshia was flipping through the spellbook while Lucia read from above. As they searched various pages, they discovered intriguing spells they wanted to learn or improve upon. However, they did not find many spells related to the curses affecting the victims.

Since Aleshia couldn't read the language in the book, Lucia read the parts that interested her. As Lucia read aloud, Aleshia attempted to match the words Lucia spoke with the letters in the text. Gradually, she began to develop a basic understanding of the written language. As her comprehension improved, Aleshia also started to grasp the various formulas and images in the book, utilizing her knowledge of spellcraft.

As Aleshia and Lucia flipped through the pages, they felt the book was never-ending. At times, they even thought it was somehow adding more pages to frustrate them, although they knew that couldn't possibly be true.

The spells they encountered appeared randomly placed. They were unsorted, with pages unrelated to any previous spells, creating a sense of chaos. Each page contained a mysterious spell or curse. The unpredictability of the contents gave Aleshiia a feeling of gambling. However, she soon felt a pang of hunger that she hadn't noticed before. It was so strong that she had to stop reading.

Aleshia set the book down on the floor and glanced around the room. Daniel was gone, but on a wooden plate in his place was a piece of bread. Aleshia felt grateful to whoever had left the bread, as the rumbling in her stomach reminded her of her hunger.

While Aleshia went to eat some bread, Lucia remained behind with the book. She continued flipping through its pages, discovering many interesting things within each one. As she read, she expanded her repertoire of spells and added new information to her existing ones.

When Aleshia returned, she saw Lucia still immersed in the spell book. With a fresh mindset, Aleshia recalled that books typically included a table of contents. Curious to see if this book had one, she mentally asked if she could check for it.

Lucia allowed Aleshia to flip to the first page of the book. When Aleshia saw the title printed in large letters, just like the cover, her eyes were drawn to a confusing string of letters beneath it that her mind struggled to decipher. When she briefly looked away from the scrambled letters, Aleshia seemed to dismiss the odd sight and unconsciously turned to the second page. There, Aleshia discovered a list of chapters along with their sub-chapters.
