The mountain ranges that divided the northern tip of the continent from the rest were vast and treacherous, towering high above the lands beneath them, their jagged peaks cutting through the skies like the broken teeth of a giant. These mountains, looming over the valley, formed the border between the known world and the mystery that lay beyond. With only a handful of narrow passages cutting through the range, it was the perfect natural barrier, one that had kept the restless unknown at bay—for now.
The lands that mortal races had claimed stretched far across the lower portions of these mountains, the valleys and plateaus they could tame. It was in these lands, the Dragon Valley, that the majority of the mortal civilizations had flourished. Over time, the domain of humankind had expanded, slowly pushing back the monstrous hordes that once roamed freely in the wilderness. However, the northernmost exit of the valley—the last known passage into the wilds beyond—remained a boundary no one dared cross for long.
Asgard controlled the western half of the northern tip, a territory fortified by a millennium of rule and military presence. To the east, things were different. The land had splintered into many smaller nations, each one fighting for its own survival in the shadow of the valley. The mortal races, in their eagerness to secure the entrances to the Dragon Valley, had turned their efforts northward. Slowly, the monsters that had once ravaged the area were driven back, but still, the unknown loomed like an ever-present threat, an enigma that no one could conquer.
Many adventurers, warriors, and their gods had dared to venture beyond the northern exit in search of something greater. Some sought power or knowledge, while others simply hoped to find answers to their burning questions. Yet, none returned the same as they once were, if they returned at all. The gods who followed their mortal followers into the unknown never reappeared, leaving only whispers behind. Those who did manage to make it back from the treacherous lands spoke little, their minds seemingly broken by what they had witnessed.
The northern region was infamous for its aggressive monsters, creatures so fierce and unpredictable that even the bravest of mortals eventually gave up hope conquering the region beyond. As a result, their focus shifted from expansion to defense as they desperately tried to hold onto the lands they had won and prepare for a potential attack from these formidable beasts. The mountainous terrain provided some advantage in defending and a great wall was slowly erected across the region.
The prestigious Zeus and Hera Familias led the last journey beyond Dragon Valley's northern exit. These great familias represented the ambitions and hopes of Genkai, and their failure struck fear into the valley's inhabitants. Towns and cities scrambled to fortify defenses, but a sense of futility hung over their efforts.
Weeks had passed since the groups departure from Asgard, where children Bell, Alice, and Aki joined elders Zald, Alfia, Hera, and Zeus on their rite of passage. They journeyed through different nations until they reached Brune - an semi-tamed land teetering on the edge of civilization.
As they climbed a hill with a breathtaking view of golden fields stretching towards a blue sky, the group paused in awe before continuing their journey. Alfia's sharp eyes took in every detail, her gaze sweeping the scene.
"Don't let the view distract you," she warned calmly but firmly. "This land was hard-won, and it would only take one mistake to lose it. A single monster from the valley could devastate this region."
Bell nodded with determination etched onto his youthful face. "We'll protect it while we are here."
Zald chuckled, his large frame casting a long shadow in the sunlight. "Good to see some spirit in you, Bell. But remember-this beauty is only possible because someone fought for it."
Alice stepped forward with silver hair glinting in the light as she surveyed the fields. "And we will fight for it too. We'll defeat that stupid dragon," she said softly
The group continued their journey, descending the hill and advancing towards the nearby town. The sounds of nature faded as they followed the path ahead. Despite the current peacefulness of the land, they all knew that each step brought them closer to the border where the valley ended and unknown dangers awaited. The beauty of Brune offered only a brief respite from the daunting task ahead.
As they ventured deeper into the northeastern frontier, there was a palpable sense of anticipation lingering in the air. This land was vastly different from western Brune - wild and untamed, with only traces of civilization present.
"Wow, this place is gorgeous," Bell exclaimed, his eyes taking in the vast plains and rugged horizon.
"Yeah," Alice responded casually, adjusting her gear strap as she walked. Beside her, Anakitty remained silent, her focus already set on the path ahead.
"Well, get used to it," Alfia said with a smile as she slowed down to address the younger members of the group. "We'll be staying here for a while. If you want to level up, you'll need to accomplish great feats and this is the perfect place for it."
Bell furrowed his brow and tilted his head inquisitively. "Why choose this place? What makes it so special?"
"Simply put," Zeus interrupted, his booming voice carrying over the gentle rustling of the wind, "the region is relatively stable, yet still new enough that monsters wander down from the north occasionally. This location offers opportunities without the chaos of the truly wild territories."
"Wander south?" Alice asked, confusion creasing her forehead. "I thought monsters only came from the Dungeon."
Zeus paused, exchanging a brief glance with Hera before clearing his throat and responding with controlled composure. "For the most part, they do, Alice. But not all monsters originate from the Dungeon. Some have existed on the surface since ancient times, left behind in places where no one survived to challenge them. Those are the creatures I'm referring to."
Alice's face brightened as she processed the explanation. "Oh, I understand now."
"Well, regardless of their origins," Hera interjected sharply but not unkindly, "this area provides you with the best chance to prove your worth and advance. Brune is hazardous enough without being overwhelming. You are here to demonstrate your capabilities, not get yourselves killed. And we certainly will not allow that to happen."
The group continued their journey as the late afternoon sun cast long shadows across the land. The younger members marveled at the scenery, while the elders remained vigilant and scanned the horizon for any signs of danger.

Zeus and Hera silently exchanged a look, understanding passing between them. Alfia led the way, her sharp eyes constantly scanning for movement in the distance. Zald protected their rear, his large frame providing a reassuring presence.
Bell, Alice, and Anakitty may not have fully comprehended the gravity of their mission, but this was their time to learn and grow. For now, it was enough that they were eager to move forward.
Ahead lay the northeastern frontier, an untamed land filled with both opportunity and danger. In this vast region, the young adventurers would face challenges that would shape them into something greater or break them entirely. The elders could guide and teach them, but ultimately, they would face these trials alone.
As they approached the towering gates of the town, they could hear the creak of wooden barriers and the clink of chains as guards opened them. The banner of the ruling lord fluttered above the walls - a black bow against a forest-green background. The guards appeared wary at first but straightened up upon hearing who the travelers were. With a nod of respect, they ushered the group inside.
The town bustled with quiet activity; cobblestone paths lined with well-maintained homes. The scent of freshly baked bread mixed with the crisp pine air gave off an inviting charm. Despite its liveliness, it was clear that this settlement had been built with care and discipline.
At its center stood the grand manor of the ruling Lord - a grand structure built with the confidence of people who had established their home in the wilderness. The group was led through the gates and up to the main entrance where they were greeted by a red-headed boy, no more than sixteen years old. His hazel eyes sparkled with curiosity and pride, though he respectfully bowed his head as they approached.
"Greetings, Lord Zeus and Lady Hera. I am Tigrevurmud Vorn, but you may call me Tigre," he greeted them, his voice respectful and composed. "My father, Lord Urs, is out hunting at the moment or he would have welcomed you personally."
Zeus chuckled heartily, instantly breaking through Tigre's formality. "Hahaha, it's good to see you, young man. No need to worry; we did arrive without notice."
Tigre visibly relaxed and smiled in relief. "If it's agreeable with you, Titta here will take you to your rooms in one of our guest lodges?"
A hazel-haired girl stepped forward and gracefully curtsied. "Pleased to meet you both, Lord Zeus and Lady Hera. I am Titta, and I will be your maid during your stay."
Hera's lips turned up in a small smile. "Such manners, child. Thank you kindly. It has been a tiring journey."
"Then please follow me," Titta gestured as she began leading them down a path towards the guest quarters.
The road wound through a peaceful pine grove that blocked out the sounds of the town behind them. Eventually, they arrived at a grand two-story manor made of wood and stone, nestled in a serene clearing. The building exuded rustic charm while remaining practical and inviting. The grove enveloped the mansion, creating a sense of seclusion and tranquility.
"This is our largest guest manor. Is it to your liking?" Titta asked with a tint of concern in her voice.
Hera nodded in satisfaction as she scanned over the building. "This is more than enough for seven people."
"It's perfect!" Bell exclaimed excitedly, his energy bubbling over. He gazed around at the glade surrounding the manor with eager wonder. "We can explore this glade and the town, too!"
Aki and Alice nodded in agreement, their curiosity and enthusiasm clearly visible.
Titta beamed at their excitement. "I'm sure Sir Tigre would love to show you around Alsace. We take great pride in our town."
"That sounds wonderful! I'm looking forward to exploring," Alice chimed in, her silver hair glistening in the sunlight as she turned towards the manor and then back to Titta.
"I will inform Sir Tigre. I'm sure it will bring him joy," Titta replied with a fond smile, her affection for the young lord evident in her tone.
The group followed her inside the manor, feeling a sense of calm wash over them from the peaceful grove. Despite the long journey and the looming mission ahead, this place felt like a sanctuary – a brief respite before facing their challenges.
Mansion Exploration:
The trio of youthful explorers entered the magnificent mansion for guests, their footsteps echoing softly on the smooth stone floor. The air was cool and carried a faint pine scent, reminding them of the surrounding forest. The entrance led to a spacious hall with a high ceiling supported by sturdy wooden beams. Sunlight filtered through large windows, casting gentle patterns across the room. Bell, Alice, and Aki stood still for a moment, taking in their surroundings.
"Wow, this place is huge!" Bell exclaimed in excitement as he spun around slowly. "It's much bigger than the houses back in Asgard."
"And fancier," Alice added, her eyes fixed on the intricate carvings along the wooden banister of the staircase. "Look at the detail. Someone must have spent a lot of time on this."
"It's nice," Aki said calmly but with a hint of approval as she walked further into the hall, her hand brushing against the smooth stone wall. "It feels solid. Safe."
Bell dashed towards a nearby door and eagerly pushed it open. Inside, he found a cozy sitting room with walls lined with bookshelves filled with books. A plush rug covered the floor, and two large chairs sat near an empty hearth. "Check this out!" he called out to his companions. "A library, maybe? Or just a reading room?"
Alice peered inside, her silver hair catching the light as she leaned through the doorway. "Nice, but I doubt any of those books are about monsters or adventures. Probably history or something boring."
"Boring can be good sometimes," Aki remarked as she and Alice passed Bell and approached another door on the opposite side of the hall. As they pushed the door open it revealed a dining room with a long wooden table surrounded by chairs. The room was simple yet elegant, suitable for quiet meals rather than grand feasts.
"This is more practical," Alice said. "We'll probably eat here."
Aki rolled her eyes but smiled. "Leave it to you to find the dining room."
Bell eagerly climbed the staircase, driven by his endless curiosity to explore the upper floor. The stairs creaked slightly under his weight, but they were sturdy enough to support him. "Hurry up! There has to be something even more amazing upstairs!"
The girls exchanged a knowing look before following him. At the top of the stairs, the hallway split into two paths, lined with several doors on each side. Bell opened the first door on the left and discovered a spacious bedroom. The bed, with its intricately carved wooden frame and soft linens, looked much more luxurious than any he had ever slept in before. A large window offered a view of the glade outside, and a wardrobe stood against one wall.
"I'm claiming this room!" Bell declared triumphantly as he flopped onto the bed with a dramatic sigh. "It's mine."
Alice leaned against the doorway, arms crossed. "You can't just take whatever room you want."
"Why not?" Bell grinned mischievously. "I saw it first."
Aki, uninterested in their argument, wandered down the hall and peeked into another room. "They're probably all the same," she commented nonchalantly. "No point fighting over it."
Alice let out a sigh of frustration and continued examining the remaining rooms, while Bell cozily lounged on his chosen bed. Aki returned to the hallway and peered out of one of the windows, admiring the peaceful view of the glade illuminated by sunlight that filtered through towering pine trees.
"This place is lovely," Aki said softly. "It feels... peaceful."
Alice came back, her hands resting on her hips. "I have to admit, they did a great job with the design. But we didn't come here to relax. Let's not forget our purpose for being here."
Bell sat up, his smile fading slightly. "I know, Alice. But it won't hurt to enjoy it for a little while, right?"
Aki nodded in agreement. "We'll have plenty of time to face monsters. For now, let's get settled."
The three of them stood in silence for a moment, momentarily putting the weight of their mission aside. The manor, with its solid walls and peaceful surroundings, felt like a place where they could prepare themselves—both physically and mentally—for what was to come. The glade outside offered serenity, but beyond it lay the town, the unknown frontier, and all the challenges awaiting them. But for now, they had this sanctuary, and that was enough.
