After connecting all the enchantments to the new core the last step is copying the programming over. For this process Jarvis has to go offline, but he comes back online as soon as it is done. In total, Jarvis was offline for about half an hour, but it is worth it for the upgrade.
As soon as he is back online I have Jarvis check all of the enchantments and himself to make sure everything works. Surprisingly there are no problems and everything is working properly. Next comes the final and longest part, replacing the data cores one by one.
It is the longest because the cores have to be empty before they can be removed and replaced. This means all the data needs to be moved so that the core is empty, then it can be removed. After one of the new cores is in it gets a bit easier since the data can be moved to it.
It still takes time and I have nothing to do but wait, so I take out a manga and start reading. Jarvis tells me when the next core is ready to be removed and once it is done I go back to reading. Once all four have been replaced, I finish the manga and then disenchant the old cores.
When all of the old cores are re-enchanted I gate to the elven palace and install them inside the throne. Obviously they can’t be used yet since there are no enchantments, but that will be fixed soon. I connect the data cores to the main core and then seal up the compartment in the throne.
There is no door and no seam, so the only way to find it would be to smash the throne. Of course, to do that you would have to make it through all of the palace’s defences. Once I am done enchanting it and upgrading the golems, that should be pretty much impossible.
Especially once I set up the government, then this place won’t be empty all of the time. Although I should probably arrange for some living guards, it isn’t wise to depend entirely on magic. Somewhere out there there might be someone who has figured out how to dispel things like I do.
Since it is the elven capital, I should probably arrange for it to be guarded by elves. An elven honor guard or something like that, I will talk to Stillwater about it later and see what he thinks. I don’t see why he would be against it, but it is never wise to assume anything.
Now that the core is in place, I start the process of redoing all of the enchantments for the palace. I replace all of the original enchantments and then add some new ones that I had already planned out. The palace is made out of valuable materials, so it has a high mana capacity, but I don’t completely fill it.
I am going to leave some room just in case I come up with something else I need to add later. Once the palace is done, I summon all of the city’s golems to the palace and start upgrading them. I am not making them into spirits like Jarvis, just upgrading the enchantments.
The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.
It will make the golems more efficient and add some extra functions, but they will still be controlled by the throne. The only golems that I don’t upgrade are the lions guarding the city gates because they won’t fit in the palace. I will have to go and upgrade them where they are, but that is farther down the list.
There are several different types of golems and I separate them into groups based on type. That way I can use Divided Mind to enchant two at once as long as they are in the same group. Even using that trick, it takes me several hours to enchant all of the golems.
Once all the enchantments are in place, the final step is to connect all of the golems to the core. After all of the golems are enchanted and I have checked my work, I send the golems back to their tasks. Then I access the core to make sure all the connections are good and the golems are working properly.
I also make sure that I can check their progress through the core and change their orders. After I am sure that everything is working properly, I set up some process to monitor the golems and alert me of any problems. This way I don’t need to pay attention to the golems unless something goes wrong.
On second thought, I set it to notify whoever is the highest ranked person in the city. That way it will notify someone else when I am not around, which will be frequently. It won’t matter right now since no one else has any permissions, but it will be important later.
In fact, now that I think about it, I go ahead and set up the permission levels now instead of waiting. That way I can add things as I complete them and don’t have to worry about forgetting something later. However, I don’t bother to make items to match the permission levels, that can wait.
Since I am planning to use jewelry, merging enchantments will be an important part and that will take a while. Besides, I plan to customize the jewelry for certain people which will take even longer. That will be part of actually setting up the government, which I won’t do until the city is upgraded.
Now that the golems are done, I decide to gate back to the castle to have something to eat. However, to my surprise Lin is there eating with the kids when I arrive at the castle.
“Not that I am complaining, but what are you doing here?”
Lin smiles and says “I came to bring Aaron back and when I did Sarah asked for my help. I sent Melissa back to your world and now I am waiting to summon her back.”
“Does she have the new tattoos?”
Mulan says “Yes, she does. We helped Bella finish them and Melissa was the test subject. They worked really well! I am really liking tattooing!”
“That’s great!”
Lin says “The kids were just telling me about trying out all the various crafts. That was a really good idea!”
“Thanks. I figured that even if they don’t find one that they want to continue, they would have fun trying everything.”
Nala says “I want to be a blacksmith!”
Kechara says “I have decided to learn tailoring. I want to be able to make pretty dresses that I can wear in human form.”
Asuna says “Like Mulan, I plan to be a tattoo artist, but I also want to keep painting as a hobby.”
Mushu says “I haven’t found anything that I want to do yet.”
Haku says “Out of everything, I think I like sculpting the best.”
Albion says “I want to be a gardener.”
Ekard says “I haven’t found anything either.”
