Then all I have to do is extend the system to the land bridge and they will gain the boost when fighting the demons. Considering the advantages that demons have, this could really help to even the odds a little. So, as soon as I arrive in the palace I take out a piece of armor and start enchanting it.

  As soon as I finish the enchantment I test it out, but the effect is a lot weaker than I was hoping. The enchantment does work, but the boost it provides is less than five percent. That is while sitting in the palace, meaning it probably won’t provide a boost at all in the rest of the city.

  So, the theory appears to be sound, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. I study how the enchantment is working for a few minutes and then start reworking it. However, while I can make some small improvements, it is nowhere near enough.

  At best, the improvements will allow the enchantment to bring the boost up to ten or fifteen percent. That is nowhere near what I want, although if I can’t figure anything else out it is still helpful. As I am working on improving the enchantment I realize that I have made a mistake.

  I am only thinking about this from one side, but there are two sides to this enchantment. If I add a matching enchantment to the system for this enchantment to connect to it should work much better. I finish up the improvements to the original and then start on the new enchantment to match it.

  Luckily, there is still plenty of room for more enchantments in the core of the system. Working on the enchantments from both sides is a lot more promising, but it takes a while. Once I have the system enchantment figured out, I have to go back and modify the gear enchantment again.

  However, every change I make on the gear side needs a corresponding change on the system side. I have to keep going back and forth making change after change to both sides. After a couple of hours of experimenting I finally get the two enchantments working properly.

  In the end, the boost from the enchantments is about fifty percent and it should work anywhere the system is. As an enchantment on gear, it will boost the effects of any other enchantments on the gear. As a tattoo, it should boost the physical and mental stats of whoever is tattooed.

  That is actually more than I was hoping for and it will definitely help out my troops. I quickly write out the new gear enchantment and then gate back to the castle looking for Lin. Surprisingly, both her and Bella are there and are still at the table eating a meal.

  Lin says “Welcome back! Join us for breakfast? Did the enchantment work?”

  “Sure, and yes it did, but only after some modifications. Here is the finished enchantment to turn into a tattoo.”

  Lin says “Oh, you had to make quite a few changes, didn’t you?”

  “Yeah. The original version worked, but it was way too weak to be of use. Not only did I need to make changes to it, but I also had to add an enchantment to the system to work with it. This version is much better and it will work anywhere the system spreads to.”

  Lin says “That is going to be a huge advantage! I assume you plan to spread the system to the land bridge before the war?”

  “Yes, I do. At least to the defenses that I plan to have built. I want to keep the war away from the population as much as possible.”

  Bella says “Is having the same enchantment on the gear and as a tattoo going to cause a conflict?”

  “Um, I didn’t think of that. I am not sure.”

  Lin says “It might as it is. You said you added an enchantment to the system to work with this one, right? Let me see that enchantment as well.”

  I quickly take out some paper and start writing out the system enchantment that I created. As I am writing, I grab some breakfast with my other hand and listen to the two of them chat. Luckily, they are talking about ideas for the tattoo design and not anything embarrassing.

  Lin says “Ah, I see. If we add this line to the gear enchantment and the tattoo, they should resonate and work together. That won’t cause a problem with the system enchantment, will it?”

  “No. If anything, it should make it work better. So, while the gear will work for anyone, it will work even better for someone with the tattoo. In fact, we can use that. Once enough people have the tattoo, I can make it so that the gear only works for them. That will prevent anyone from stealing our gear and using it against us.”

  Lin says “That is a good idea! Do you plan to give the tattoo to the entire army?”

  “No, probably not. Just the elites that will have gear on par with the palace guard.”

  Lin says “So, there are going to be two elite forces?”

  “Yes. One in the army and the other under the direct control of the royal family. That should help to prevent any kind of military takeover in the future.”

  Bella says “I don’t think you need to worry about that. From what I have seen, everyone loves you!”

  “It isn’t about me. It is for the future once I am no longer around. I am doing what I can to make sure the kingdom will survive my death.”

  Bella says “Oh, that makes sense. That is a good thing since Lin and Myria will have to rule after you.”

  Lin says “That is assuming that we survive the war.”

  “I will be doing everything within my power to make sure that you do!”

  Lin says “I know you will, but you are not a god. It is still a possibility that we need to consider.”

  “I already have. If something happens to you and Myria, Kechara will be next in line for the throne.”

  Lin says “Oh!”

  “Why do you sound disappointed? Do you not think Kechara would make a good queen?”

  Lin says “No, it’s not that. She would probably make a very good queen, especially with the support of her siblings.”

  “If that isn’t it, then what were you thinking?”

  Lin says “I was thinking that you need a queen who won’t be on the battlefield. Someone who would be good at running a government and even already has experience doing so.”

  “What?! Why do you sound like you are talking about someone specific?! Who are you talking about?!”

  Bella says “Don’t look at me! She definitely isn’t talking about me!”

  “Then who is she talking about? Do you know?”

  Bella says “Nope! This is a surprise to me too!”

  “Alright Lin, what’s going on?”

  Lin says “No, I am not telling you until you calm down! I want you to consider this seriously!”

  “I am calm!”
